Fob not working properly

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Ford Edge Limited with Intelligent Access. One of my fobs stopped working properly, where it’s still working to enable the start/stop button and it still enables intelligent access to unlock the doors by grabbing the door handles. But none of the buttons work to remotely start the vehicle, lock/unlock it, open the trunk, or turn on the alarm. My other fob works correctly.

I’ve tried changing the battery in the fob with the same result. I also tried to reprogram the fob but couldn’t get through the step where the start/stop button is supposed to begin rapidly flashing (step 5 in the owner’s manual procedure for programming spare intelligent access keys.)

Any ideas? I’m not sure where to go from here.

As the other remote works perfectly, its isolated to this remote (nothing wrong with the car).

The remote is sending its proximity signal, so the transmitter is working.

That leaves a problem with only the the keys.

What I would do is take the fob apart and check for broken contacts or misaligned buttons.

I've taken the remote apart quite a few times and inspected the circuit board and buttons quite thoroughly and haven't been able to find anything out of the ordinary. I also checked the contacts between the battery and the circuit board and they look fine as well. Hmm...
