Rezzi
Hello lads, I have a rather odd situation and request. There is a 2014 ford edge sport available and for whatever reason he's selling off all the parts including stuff on the interior. I was wondering how hard it would be to swap the ambient lighting, the seats (I would prefer if I can do that with the memory seat), the trunk motor and its control, lastly the push start button. I'm willing to put in the work as long as I can actually do these things. If there are people
DaMiFo
It would help to know what you are starting with. It's definitely doable, but how much time, money, and effort are you willing to put into the car? The seats shouldn't be too big of a deal. If you don't have memory or even heated seats now, you're looking at a bunch of wiring changes, you'll need to install the switch on the dash, program the APIM if you don't have heated seats already, and some module programming. Ambient lighting would require a load of interior wiring or entire harnesses to be installed into the doors, center console, and under the dash. Plus the trim pieces to accommodate the LEDs. You'll have to programming this feature into the BCM and APIM. The powered liftgate gear would require the wiring in the rear of the car for the new motor, liftgate/trunk module, and switches in the trunk and on the dash. You'll also need new keys with the trunk button. This will require at least programming in the BCM, possible adjustments to the new LTM. If you want push button start, this would require the most work out of everything you listed. You'll need to install the multiple transceivers around the car, replace a few sections of your interior wiring harnesses, program the BCM, IPC, and PCM for the new equipment AND the new keys. Basically, you're looking at pulling out nearly all of the interior of your car and replacing most of the interior wiring harnesses or spending ages running your own wires in addition to the additional hardware. You'll need to either understand something like FORScan or UCDS pretty well, or have to find someone willing to also put in the time to program all of these modules for you (most likely, for a fee). Dealers will not, and can not add these features. If you do decide to go down the route to retrofit any of this, I do wish you good luck! Rezzi
Well I'm starting with an edge 2011 3.5 sel and the one with the parts I'm looking to pull out of is a 2014 sport. Time and effort I'm happy to put in. Money .... Well Im trying to have things done as an exchange and then i sort of pay a little bit of cash aswell. Apart from that I'm I think now atleast quite a bit familiar with forscan. I did activate the ambient lighting in my car (obviously it doesn't work yet) however it gives me the option to change and everything. Thing is I need clear instructions on what steps to take. Like what sort of wiring do I need to do with the seats ( what do I need to grab out of the 2014 to get the stuff to work. For instance the little panel next to the steading. Do I just swap those little panels. Is there a connection behind mine ?. For the ambient lighting I can take off the interior door panels. The panel for cup holders. I don't know if I have to swap the center console with the Sony one in the 2014. If I do need to do that. I can perhaps persuade him to do so. The door panels would have the LEDs and the wiring inside but where do I need to take them off from his car and where do I out them on my car. For the trunk I can grab the motor. Maybe even the whole panel on which the motor sits. But about the wiring again. Where do I pull out from the 2014 and how and where do I fit in my car. The push start seems like a lot of work. Maybe I can grab an after market one they seem to have easier installation procedures. That may be easier. I'm not completely sure. But if it can be done and someone can actually instruct me on how to do it then I can go for it For programming I am a member of a 2 Facebook groups for forscan aswell and they seem to know what they are doing. So I'm sure someone or the other will fill in the gaps. If you can help me with this or there is someone you can refer me to. Like maybe a ford mechanic or someone who may have added these features. Or has wiring diagrams or the layout of the wiring and the panels that need to be accessed then I'll be in your debt !
onyxbfly
I know that this is not the answer that you're looking for but here we go: If you have access to a rolling shell that can be titled, It would be easier to install/ replace whatever is wrong with the sport with parts from the SEL Easier and cheaper. But if you are interested in going down this road..... you can pick up a wiring diagram that is fully compatible with both vehicles for under $50 on fleabay! Or you can go with AllData. You can find the factory repair service manual on the net for free. It can be done, there are members who have swapped out entire interiors and added all of the goodies from the titanium and sport trim. The fusion and the edge are 90% compatible. Check out 2gfusions.net someone can point you in the right direction. HTH! Good Luck
Rezzi
Thanks a lot for your answer buddy ! Appreciate the time you've taken out. I've got my hands on the repair manual. It seems pretty comprehensive (about 5 and a half thousand pages). It's quite helpful. I want to completely go ahead cause it seems like I'm getting these items for quite cheaper of a price than most people do. The people who have done these swaps. Would you be able to recall someone who has done it ?. Or maybe a ford tech who knows where I can tap into. I do see some splicing points yet I'm not sure how to go about those. I'll go the fusion site and see what I can get there. Although you may know to easily do the side skirts and the lower bumper trims Thanks a lot !
