Sync 1 rollback software

Recommended Posts

I made the mistake of upgrading my 2013 Edge Sync to the software on the Ford site.  It broke the ability to pass through iPhone Siri through to the car speakers.   I've read people in years paste have found the software to rollback to the original version but I have been unsuccessful in locating it.  By chance, do anyone know of this issue and have the previous version software?

Upgrade within Sync 1. I cannot tell what  the release  number was and just upgraded to the latest Sync 1 from the Ford site.  They never should have allowed an upgrade to a bad piece if code.  They should fix it but help desk said they won’t.
No way I’m paying a dealer for this and doubt they have anyone who could do it.  I did check and they said it’s not worth the cost.  Pitiful Ford can’t make this right.
I did find a very old post of someone who said they found the old code but no luck in finding that now. This is why i asked in this forum.

I have no idea what the previous version was.  Probably what was factory installed.  Yes, I have the 4.2" screen.

I updated to GC1T-14D544-AB.  Prior to this, my iPhone worked as normal and the Ford Edge passed all voice / sound through the Sync Sound System.  So I could ask Siri for directions, or where is the nearest Walmart,  or what was 2 + 2, or I could dictate a Text or place a phone call...everything would come through the sound system on the Edge.

Now, all I can do is ask directions for a specific location on the street and city.  I can no longer ask for the nearest gas station, hands free.    i can no longer dictate a text.  I need to turn off Blue Tooth to do these things, then physically do them on the phone...not good to do while driving.  So pressing the voice button doesn't do anything as Siri works still with SOME functions still coming over the sound systems but it took away others...to which I ask WHY?

So much for Hands Free driving.   Which makes me ask Ford...what QA testing did they NOT do to allow there software upgrade to degrade the previous systems functions?  They at least should have warned me on their download site this would happen.  The upgrade was a waste and gave me nothing that I could see.

As I stated, Ford said they don't post any downgrade software but someone back in 2016 posted  that he found software to do that (or reinstall and older version) and posted it on a drop box (which he would give in a private msg).  People have asked for it since but that posting is only and closed.  Again, so I'm hoping someone knows where to get that software to do this.    Doesn't look like anyone has a solution and I'm not paying a dealer to go figure it out.

Thanks for the the update.  I downloaded the zip file but all the files contained refer to file names containing "546"...which is what i have on now.   The autoinstall file is identical to the latest upgrade file that was installed.  I don't see anything in the zip that points on the DG37-14D544-AC that would all those files to run.  I'm no expert, but I would have expected to have seen "544-??.cab" files that would have installed the older version.

I tried to run the Install anyway but it failed.  Which I think is because it's trying to reinstall the same files versions it already has.

EGNIMA -2, yes the phone is paired.  As I mentioned I can still place a hands free call via SIRi and it comes through the sound system.  I just can no longer text nor ask for directions...which are a great hands free features I no long have "sync'd" with my sound system.  Of course I can still get this by turning off the bluetooth and just using the phone.  At this point, Sync 1 is useless beyond calling someone from my contact list.

Sorry I may have gotten some part #s mixed up while searching for downloads.  I thought that was 4.1.3 but looks like I mixed up some of the file name.  Just do searches for the files in that list.  See what you can come up with.

Thanks.  No luck so far.  I tried Ford help again and was told to go dealer as they would have access to old code.  They also mentioned a note from Ford stating I would lose hands free with this update.  I suggested they put it on the upgrade site and warn people.

I know this thread is old but I feel that sharing this will help some people in the future. After trying to downgrade many times and failing I created a modified software version by comparing and combining the file that contains 4.4 with software 4.6. I assumed that the start files for the new software check some hash or input to keep you from downgrading, since they were the same name and size I just replaced them. It worked perfectly for me and now my Siri functionality works. The system still thinks the software is version 4.6 but is actually version 4.4 as I used the old data files from 4.4.
Attached is an image of my displayed version number.
Anyone who wants to try my modified software is welcome to, However I am not responsible for any issues that this may cause. Use at your own risk.

Thanks.  The download install worked and I have the same sw version as your photo but still not working like before, meaning I could ask Siri for the nearest Home Depot or text my wife and it went through the car speakers.   I thought it worked via USB connection until I paired the iPhone for Bluetooth  and then the Siri symbol just moves on the phone but it doesn't work.   I tried deleting the pairing and try again but now I cannot even add the phone.   Crazy sw!  it was worth the shot.  My voice activated phone calls with Siri still worked....until I deleted the pairing...lol.

I'll try another day.  Thanks for the effort.

I am sorry It didn't work for you. I had absolutely no Siri functionality since buying the car in 2020 and now I can tell it to call/skip music and open apps while connected to the car through Bluetooth. I do think its odd that it still didn't work for you because the install file I created uses the old 4.4 software masked as 4.6. If you do decide to try it again, I would reboot/reset the system before the reinstall. Mabey it retained something in its memory?  I spent a day messing around trying to install the older version and did those before deciding to edit the software files and giving it a try.

Maybe I’ll try factory reset. I did a Sync Reboot.

i spent weeks trying to install a 2016 Escape upgrade for my daughter… works.  I don’t have much energy for mine now.  I never should have messed with it but why would Ford even put broken software on their upgrade site!

  1. I performed both resets and reinstalled your downgrade software.  The redo fixed the issue I was having with pairing my phone.  But in the end, I have the same issue in that Ford blocked the ability uses hands off to dictate a text or ask Siri for a list of stores, or restaurants, etc, near me.  That was the old software allowed to be heard over the sound systems.   I did notice I was able to send a text via voice by just watching the Siri circle gizmo appear and I guess it it was getting my dictation but just not responding verbally.  But that disappeared too.
  2. From what I read for others in a new search, Ford screwed up the 4.6 software and doesn't care to address it by just having us reload the old software.  They seem to blame it all on Apple.  Very poor quality control and testing by Ford.
  3. In the end, I just don't care to use Sync as I need to turn bluetooth off so I can use the Iphone/Siri to do what I need when I need to do it.   Just cannot do it handsfree so I just don't use it while driving.

Does the hands free voice dictate texting work for you?

I am glad the reinstall fixed that connection issue. If I had an older software version than 4.4 I could make a masked downgrade file for a version that could potentially work better. I might mess around some more to see if I can get Siri to talk through the speakers. I am not sure if it has to do with Siri as with apple earphones it mainly listens preforms the command and does not speak. Now that you mention it I didn't notice it not talking through the car, It would call but not send texts for me, probably part of the issue as it normally asks what you would like to send.

I agree that ford intentionally removed this feature and then blamed it on apple. I am not sure why but the install files for 4.6 had some major changes in structure from what I can see. The older installations had 7 things to install while the new one only had 6. Along with different sized  backend data files. Many things could be changed in the installation file for different results that I have not messed with and I'm not sure If I will because I'm unable to see the source code and would hate to brick my radio.
