Second post for me. (First was a reply :) )

2020 2.0 Eco.  I finally understand the block/coolant issue that has plagued the ecoboost for some time. Huge thanx to Fordtechmakuloco!

As he points out so well, the block was improved by dropping the coolant "slit" between cylinders and going to a port/tube. That was "during" the 2020 model year. Sooooo...I have just updated from my 2012 3.7 workhorse (really miss it :( )to a 2020 2.0 Eco. How do I find out if I have the flawed or fixed block?  VIN tells me it is an Oakville build production sequence A51877

Thanx Much for any good news, or at least to be prepared for bad news...

The Edge got a new engine configuration with a new block in MY 2019 (other vehicles got a revised block mid year 2019). The new 2.0 it got has things like an EGR cooler (which was problematic first couple of years, with a leak and TSB), and the block no longer has slits to the head, as you mention, but a round port.

So I have the common coolant intrusion issue in my 2018 ford edge 2.0 eco boost. I have a letter to send to Ford Motor company to see what they will do to fix this issue. It is not under any warranty as it just reached over 100k miles. Does anyone know who I could reach out to in order to be sure my letter and complaint goes to the right people. I live in Maine and am finding it hard to find a dealership that will check into this issue for me.

Thanks in advance.

So it all started with coolant getting into cylinder 1. I called my ford dealership to see what they recommend and they said long block replacement. I asked for a quick quote for engine replacement and was around 15k. I’m sorry but the car isn’t worth that. So I decided to replace the head gasket and go from there. Now with that all done car stars idle fine but when driving it doesn’t want to get up to speed (loss of power).

Now I’m getting the P0012 code. I did buy 2 new VVT124 installed them and that when the P0012 code came on. Has anyone else have this issue. I don’t really want to just start replacing parts that aren’t needed.

That's why we promote diagnostics, to avoid replacing parts that aren't needed.

What prompted you to replace the VVT124's ?

I applied voltage to them to test and they weren’t functioning so instead of taken them apart I figured buying news ones would be best.

I have a 2019 Ford Edge Eco boost. It's losing coolant, no obviously leaks no overheating. The heat also does not work, but Both heater core hoses get hot The oil is clean and there's no white smoke coming out of the Exhaust.

Do you have the Check Engine Light on?

The 2019 has a redesigned block and engine compared to the one that exhibits coolant intrusion. It could be related to the EGR cooler.

I've just experienced the coolant loss isue with my 2017 ford edge ecoboost at 61000 miles

Anyone know else experiencing this? How are ford denying that this is an intrinsic defect.

Yep mine has also just gone, problem started at 61000, silly diagnostics and repairs that didn't address the issue, now being quoted a gasket change and potentially engine replacement

I  recall mine happened at roughly 65000 miles. If you have a 2017, that’s not gonna fix the problem you need to replace the engine with an engine from 2019 or later as it is a redesigned block. Unfortunately, due to the market of cars now back when I did it if I would’ve known the value of my car would drop to where it is now. Rough pill to swallow.

I just got this code and what you experienced is exactly what I experienced. During cold start it starts rough. I also noticed that it need some coolant. So what was it? Should I take it to the dealer or local shop? I have extended warranty.
