2011 Gearshift selector lights

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I have a 2011 and the lighting/backlight for the gear selection is totally dark now.  It progressed slowly over the last year where parts of the backlit worked but now the entire strip is out.  Wondering if there are bulbs underneath that I can replace.

(I've attached a pic from a 2013 that is the same as mine on the 2011)

basically the gears selections have a backlight

Ford states that the fix costs a little over $1,000. (Replace the entire shifter mechanism). Don't see a LED replacement detail, but worth a try. See attached to remove shifter.

The 2011 Edge/MKX Workshop Manual wiring diagram shows the PRNDL of the floor shifter is LED illuminated.

The LED is attached to the underside of the Console Cover Panel (78045A76), and has a short wiring harness with a C3617 connector that plugs into a corresponding harness on the console's left side.

The Floor Shifter Illumination LED and its wiring harness appear to only be provided in the assembly of the Console Cover Panel.

Below are PDF download links to the Selector Lever Knob Removal and Installation procedure from the Workshop Manual, which includes the action steps toward removing the Console Cover Panel; and also to Floor Shifter Illumination Wiring Connector C3617 Details document...

As @enigma-2 mentions, if you are able to remove the trim panel and assess what type of LED array is attached to the short wiring harness, and you're able to find a replacement LED array online, then the LED replacement cost will certainly be much less than the cost of a new Console Cover Panel with its included LED illumination, per this FordParts listing estimating cost, which depends upon options installed on your Edge...

If you have not already viewed it, this very good Youtube video shows how relatively easy it is to remove the Console Cover Panel, and it also shows the involved LED illumination C3617 electrical connectors.

Good luck!

With the information Haz supplied, you can pull the LED and see if something like this will work. (Clear of course, not amber, but you get the idea). Read the information in the description. All comes down to the specific base for the LED.
