RPM's on accelerating

08 FWD SEL: When I start from a stand still and accelerate hard (OD off), the Tach needle will run up to 6000 RPMs before the trans wants to make it's final shift. I was wondering if this seems normal for any other Edge owners. No complaints but I do see the red caution line on the Tachometer face at the 7000 RPM mark.

Sounds like you are putting the shifter in L instead of D. Unless by accelerating hard you mean full or nearly full throttle. In which case 6000rpm is perfectly normal, that's what every automatic transmission does.

The computer will not allow you to overrev the engine - it will cut out at or just below redline. No worries.

Thanks -that's an interesting feature. Will the engine shut off or does it just transition into an "idle" state?

When you hit the limit, it briefly cuts power, then puts it back. The result is that it will "bounce" off the rev limiter - fluctuating by a couple of hundred RPM. Try it in Park and you'll see. Note that some cars have a lower limit when in park or drive - my Lincoln LS was 3K - so you don't rev it up to 6K and then drop it into gear and destroy the tranny.
