  1. Spongers - sorry just read this - but there is generally a screw in the door handle bucket (behind the plactic bucket trim) and one under the door handle pull area (usually under the power window trim piece). These are the areas with the most stress when opening/closing the doors so they need to be reinforced with a screw. Would enjoy hearing how our speaker replacement went, what kind of speakers you used and what size the stock door speakers are (both front and back). Good luck!!

Nice looking Edge there....I always wondered what it would look like w/o the rear badges. Were there locator holes under the badges you had to fill and paint? Also the front and rear lower fascias...did you have those painted to match? The only ones I've seen have been the matte black finish?
  3. We looked at the Lexus and Edge as well. The Lexus didn't really do it for me as far as exterior styling...Edge seems more agressive in styling, the Lexus had a nice interior, but the Edge's was almost as nice and the electronics blow away the Lexus. I would also suspect that a comparably loaded Lexus (I have the '11 LTD) would be at least $10K more?
  4. My 2011 Edge Limited is doing well at 6000 miles. Did have the have the My Touch software update, but it went well and is working great now!! Mechanically, the engine has a noticable "tick" on cold start up. My dealer kept it overnight and noticed it upon cold start as well. Ford is aware of the issue and is still investigating if it is serious or not. He has me on record so I will be covered if something should happen. Great vehicle though - great power, looks, and excellent electronics (after the reflash).
  5. Gentlemen, great work and your efforts are appreciated. I must admit to being very surprised/disappointed with Ford for not lighting these up. My 2009 F-150 moon roof buttons were lit - seems Ford is all over the place with various features on their models. I have an '11 Limited and was wondering if anyone has checked into the wiring for this model? I did check out this thread, but still am not clear as to how to wire the 11 model? I'd also like to tap into a ground/power that is off/on with the key for my radar detector - anyone with a limited do this yet? thx!!! LOL, I knew you were referring to the Vista roof - but hadn't seen the BAMR reference before...so I Googled it...Big Ass Moon Roof....
  6. Tom, that must explain the issue I've been having with my heated seats not coming on in the "Auto" mode with remote start. Here in SoCal we rarely get to freezing, but in the Winter we can get down to the mid-30's and it would be nice to have toasty seats when getting in...wonder if that setting can be adjusted? I have all the Remote Start Climate settings on "Auto" - does the actual "climate control system" in the center stack need to be set to auto as well - can't imagine how that would affect the heated seats though......
  7. Not the OP's question I know...but I'm glad they don't auto unlock until I open the driver's door...just in case I pull into a bad area, put it in park, and someone tries to carjack/open the door - it is nice knowing they are locked until I open my door...just my .02
  8. Another way to check is raise the hood and see if it has the alarm switch...it will be a "plunger" type switch covered in a rubber boot...facing the engine it's on the left upper radiator shroud just left of the hood latch (on my 2011 anyway). Akirby, while Ford has offered the factory alarm for a while now - it's generally been an option and still not avail on all Ford vehicles. To my dismay I had a 2009 $50K F-150 Screw 4x4 "Platinum" fully loaded and it didn't come with the factory alarm...not sure it was even an option back then (for the F-150) as I ordered this truck with every bell and whistle you could get....sure miss those air conditioned seats
  9. What I have learned to date is that the Nav system sw comes embedded in the vehicle and your LFD can activate it. It requires you purchase the Ford SD card for $795, install it and the dealer activates the Nav option. I have researched this as my 2011 Edge Limited came with factory Nav (have the SD card and everything) yet it was not activated so I have no Nav! I wanted to research BEFORE I take it into my LFD as they are really struggling with this new MyTouch system and don't have the answers yet. I'm taking it in soon for the fix and will post my results.
  10. I've had the opposite luck with the "turn by turn" Synch directions. Better than nothing for sure, but if you are in even a slightly poor cell area it will keep dropping the call during the download and you have to start all over again. Also if you take a brief detour off the course, it has to download a new set of directions all over again. Very kludgy (IMO) comapared the Synch with Nav I had in my 2009 Platinum F-150. So far I'd have to say I'm not a fan of the Synch II (MyTouch) as on my 2011 Edge Limited it is not nearly as reliable as my '09 Platinum Synch/Nav system was. We still haven't been able to get the factory Nav working on the new Edge. Like anything else, this is a new system and there are bugs...Ford will get it right, but I wish they would have gotten it better before rushing it to maket...better to delay the introduction to mid year (Job 2) or even the next model year than put customers through so much grief.
  11. wdupree...sorry to say - now you are stuck in the same situation as I am - bought a new Edge with Nav and yet I have no Nav It not really funny but your experience further demonstrates my reluctance to go for the SW upgrade until Ford truly has had time to fix this MyTouch system. My dealer should be able to connect my Edge to thier computer and just tell me if the Nav feature is activated w/o doing the complete sw upgrade. I can live wtih a clock that doesnt keep time and a few other bugs, but I do want/need my nav system. Checked out one that was working and it is pretty awesome...I did stop by my dealer again today and they have 12 cars ahead of me (for that dept. - sounds like MyTouch issues are keeping them busy)...I didn't want to leave it over the weekend, so will go back next week. Good luck and keep us informed (as will I) of what your issue turns out to be.
  12. Ditto on the "MyTouch" needing a lot of work before being released as ready to go...mine's full of faults
  13. urdone, I really hope things work out for you but am afraid it's going to be a while before Ford gets this all worked out. I realize Ford is working on it - but the bottom line is they released a "Not Ready for Prime Time" system (Ford MyTouch) and we are all paying the price. Yes my 2011 Edge Limited's MyTouch has all kinds of small glitches, (rear view camara acts up/stays on in drive/scrolls like an old bw TV, the Nav/SD system never has worked from day 1, sometimes the blue screens stay on, response time is slow/kludgy, I have never been able to set the time or date and have it stay accurate for more than an hour, etc. But at least most of the important controls work most of the time so I'm in no hurry to install a "patch" (sw update) that may do more harm than good. It's downright scary speaking with my LFD's so called "Mytouch expert" as after 4 weeks of ownership I know much more about this system than they do. When I mentioned the sw update that Ford has out now for MyTouch, my service mgr. and MyTouch expert had no idea and looked at me as if I was from Mars...this is such a complicated system - I don't really trust my LFD to be working on it.....I ran into my sales guy and he asked me how I was liking the new Mytouch system...when I told him the 1st gen Synch and DVD based Nav in my '09 Platinum (F150) was much better/more reliable, he couldn't believe it....I challenged both him and the Dealer MyTouch expert to just take 5 mins and Google "Problems with MyTouch" and they might better understand what they are selling...doubt either will take the time to do so though... Ford has bet a lot on this new technology and I do believe they will (eventually) address the issues, but it's going to be trial and error for a long time to come and I'm betting the 2012's (or even late release 2011's) have MyTouch systems with significantly less functionality than our 2011's. I was so excited about this new Edge (the ride, comfort, etc. is outstanding) that I ignored a basic truth "never buy the first year of an extensively updated model"...many glitches to be worked out and if Ford was looking for Beta Testers they should have warned us and discounted the price of the vehicles for the inconvenience...after all I don't think it's unreasonalble to expect a new vehicle to do what it is supposed to do....just my .02......
  14. Good luck my Nav (inc. maps) haven't ever worked and I did get the Nav System with the SD card...getting frustrated!!
  15. Exactly why I'm waiting - even though I currently have several issues with My Touch!!
  16. Waldo, based on what I've read about the new sw update...I'm thinking I may want to wait awhile as the "fix" seems to bring on additional issues. I don't think the sw is the issue, but more like Ford didn't activate the Nav at the factory. You may end up being right though and thanks!!
  17. Choff - thx for the reply, but I did this already - my LFD tried a brand new SD card from another 2011 Edge and still wouldn't work. thx!!

    3.5L Mods???

All, the 3.5L V6 is my first V6 in a long line of hp V8's and I must say I'm surprised at how "perky" this V6 is. Curious though, is anyone changing out the stock air filter, CAI, etc. for better performance or mileage? I haven't seen anything (underhood performance) for the Edge's 3.5L V6....

    oil cooler

Blue - nice - I too was wondering as I have the Class 2 tow package. Probably won't be towing anything, but did want the larger radiator and oil cooler. :happy feet:
  21. All, Great to find this forum and looking forward to getting my new 2011 Edge Limited sorted out. I really like this crossover, looks, ride, etc., however the MyTouch doesn't appear to be ready for prime time yet! One of the main issues is we can't get the Nav feature to work at all. This is a very important feature for me (use my Nav all the time) and I need to get it working. The Synch "turn by turn" Nav is less than desirable...kept having issues with the download (kept dropping the call) and very kludgy to use. Anyway, I have a new 2011 Edge Limited with the Rapid Spec 301A package including Voice Activated Navigation system. I had my dealer trade for this particular Edge as it had the Nav System and theirs didn't. It has the SD slot and Ford SD card inserted, but here's the deal. The Nav quadrant in the center console is labeled "Information" NOT "Navigation" and when I try and access the SD Card it reads "No Device Detected"?? Yet, I was able to upload pictures using the SD card from my camara? I went to my LFD's mytouch expert and he even tried using the brand new (sitll in it's shrink wrap) SD card from another 2011 Edge they had just gotten in and the same - nothing was detected. I have been reading up on the new MyTouch/Nav system on the net and they are saying that the Nav application is embedded in the car when it ships, then you have to insert the SD Card AND Ford has to activate it? Does this sound right and could it be my LFD just doesn't know this? This Edge came with the Nav option from the factory so you would expect that they would have activated it before shipping - but perhaps they missed it? Any help would be appreciated as this issue is taking a lot of the new car ownership fun out of my new Edge. While the MyTouch system is a bit buggy, it works most of the time (the rear view camara has a mind of its own though - once drove two blocks (in Drive ) before the camara shut down and the center console came back on).
  22. Similar issue here...was able to upload pics via the SD card in my camara; however, can't get them to display anywhere? Went to my LFD's mytouch expert and he couldn't figure it out either...
  23. that's a shame, your parents had the bad luck to get ripped off AND a stupid thief(s)? Can't believe a thief wouldn't try the latch first....you should register that one in the "Stupid Theives" catagory  I guess you'd have to be lacking sense anyway to risk imprisonment over the contents of a car...or even a car for that matter...sorry to hear about your parents getting ripped off!
  24. LOL my thoughts exactly...the plastic mounts would be the weak link and to have a thief jam a screwdriver/pry bar in between the gbdoor/dash would probably do pretty significant damage
  25. p - not illuminated...would be nice but no luck. Power fold mirrors and integrated turnsignals (like on my '09 F150) would be nice to have as well. :yup:
