  1. You may have the same issue I had with my 2011 Edge Limited WITH nav. Even though the SD card was properly inserted, the Nav System was not activated at the factory so it would never work - nor would the Nav quadrant (Green corner) ever show that I had Nav. After convincing the dealer I purchased it from that it did indeed come with Nav (had to produce the window sticker) they enabeled the Nav option through a software update. Worked fine ever since the software update!! If your Nav has not been activated at the factory, the "I" (Information) Icon will be in the upper green quadrant - not the "Navigation" label. Good luck !
  2. The rear chrome beltline trim comes on the 2011 Limited as well. The only thing I'd be careful with is Ford is very fond of using "locator pins" for many of thier trim and badging pieces...which means holes may need to be drilled or you would have to break off the locator pins and use adhesive....it does really dress up the rear of the vehicle though. I wanted to remove the Lincoln star front fender badges and unfortunately, there are two holes in the fender for the badge location pins...since I don't want to repaint the fenders the badges get a free pass...might paint the black though so they don't stand out so much...
  3. Update, I did the tire swap. Ended up going with the Pirelli Scorpion Zero in the 265/45 R20 size. Very close to the original diameter and the look is much improved over the Stock Pirelli's. The tire shop let me drive on them for a weekend to see if I liked the ride. In normal driving I don't really notice any difference. I wouldn't go any wider than this though on the stock 8" rims and may eventually decide to go with an after market rim at least 9" wide. Very happy for now though as the look is greatly improved (IMO) and the drivablility/ride has not been drastically changed. I'll try and get some pics for everyone.
  4. nt - I was looking at the factory "ram air intake" in the 2011's and was wondering if it would be worth the trouble to open up a few of the blocked grill openings using a dremel. Not sure it would really make any diference or not...thoughts....
  5. I'd be interested in checking out a K&N for my 2011 MKX...anyone have info? Probably using the same filter as the Edge.
  6. Head down to you LLD and check them out on an MKX in person, If they are the same (good bet they are) just order them through Lincoln...I did this with my 2005 F-150 and ordered the Mark LT chrome door handles and they fit perfectly.
  7. Agreed, while it looks nice, it reduces the visibility. Just last week I almost rear ended a guy in a Tahoe who had tinted his taillights...were so dark the brake lights looked like his running lights...I would have been very upset if my new MKX was damaged due to someone trying to look "cool".
  8. I'd just stop by your LFD and have them price it out for you.Generally beltline moulding attaches by clips that are part of the backside of the moulding. When you remove your orig beltline mouldings be very patient or these plastic clips will snap off and you wont be able to reuse the mouldings. Have learned this the hard way (on more than one occaision) If you do the chrome beltline mouldings also look into the chrome mounlding that goes across the rear hatch right under the rear glass (surrounding the Ford blue oval), Looks good with the chrome beltline mouldings on teh Limited. Good luck
  9. Both my '09 F-150 Platinum and 11 MKX have the Air conditioned seats (I say AC because many of the German cars have ventilated seats - they blow air - but not cooled air). Anyway, my theory is that when you are sitting in the seat you are pretty much blocking the ventilated holes in the leather - so that's why you don't feel it as much as say your legs where air can exit via the unblocked ventilation holes. I can hear my seat fan running when it's in the high position so Iknow it works. I would like to know the area where the fan comes through the seats. Also, there are air filters in these systems, if you have a 2007 - you should proably change the filters. Good luck!
  10. Thanks everyone for your replies. The exhaust is a bit more sound than I'm looking for - but please post your final set up! I'll test the wires to figure out which ones to use...I'm thinking of tapping into the sunroof switch - it's on/off with the ignition and should be able to handle the small load of my radar detector. Again, thanks everyone - appreciate the input!!
  11. Great idea, is the Class 3 hitch smaller diameter than a Class 2 hitch?
  12. Recently traded my 2011 Edge Limted for a 2011 MKX. The mirrors won't fit - MKX has a bit smaller, more rounded mirrors than the Edge. Check with Lincoln for the chrome door handles though I believe they would fit the Edge and you'll have the proper "touch sensitive" driver/passenger handles.
  13. All, recently traded my 2011 Edge Limited for an 2011 MKX. Several mods I'd like to start with are: 1) Install my Escort 9500xi radar detector. I have the blendmount and the Invisicord already and just need to know the wire colors for the switched power (on/off with the key). The MKX is loaded so there must be a wire in the overhead console area that I could tap into. I did this with my 2009 F150 and it worked great...anyone know the proper wires? 2) While the MKX has dual exhaust, it's too quiet. My Edge Limited had the faux dual exhaust - but it did have just a bit of rumble...wondering what the MKX would sound like if I swapped out the stock muffler for a Magnaflow or removed the rear collectors? I don't want to make this MKX loud or obnoxious - just a subtle change is what I'm looking for. 3) Tires. I have the 20' x 8" rims and would like a bit wider tires, for more of the X5 look, but don't want to ruin the handling of the MKX either. Anyone have experiece with this and how did your Edge/MKX handle after you went with wider tires? The 8" rim is fairly narrow so I wouldn't want to go too wide. thanks appreciate your input.
  14. If you have a black Edge, go to your local Pep Boy's / kragen, etc., and get the flat plastic push fasteners in the HELP section. There are some that are for GM that fit perfectly are very flat and are gloss black. I just did this for my new Tuxedo black MKX and they blend right in.
  15. LOL, I know what you mean...I'm in my early 50's and I too want to be spoiled by luxury! After owning several nice German cars - it's tough to go back to cheap plastic and poor grade leather. One of my neighbors just got a killer deal on a close out of a new 2010 MKX and she's 65 - said she got the 2010 because it didnt' have all that confusing electronics that the 2011 came with Too funny, I really like all that you can do with the My Ford/My Lincoln Touch system! One thing that did concern me about my Edge is that while I only had 8K miles on it when I traded the front grill looked terrible...I thought the chrome chipped way too easily could have just been a bad chrome plating on my particular Edge though. One bummer that I just found on my MKX is that the front passenger seat doesn't fold flat like on my Edge so it's impossiblel to get lumber over 6' in the MKX without having to leave the rear hatch open. I use my MKX as a client hauler and Home Depot weekend runner so I'll have to keep this in mind.
  16. A couple of weeks ago I traded my 2011 Edge Limited (FWD) for a 2011 Lincoln MKX (AWD) with the Preimum and Elite packages (didn't want that horrible interior that comes with the MKX Limited option - would have liked the polished 20" wheels though). Quick background, I came from a BMW into the Edge and wanted to trade back up to a vehicle with more upscale luxury and features. I test drove the: 1) Acura MDX - too small, less features than my Limited for a substantial increase in price and too low to the ground. Felt like I was driving an Accord that had been raised a few inches - very heavy vehicle for it's size and mileage suffers. 2) Mercedes ML 350/550 - was really dissapointed with this entire line. The ML350 weighs 5400+lbs and has an underpowered 268hp V6. Both mileage AND performance suffer - wouldn't hardley get out of it's own way. The driving dynamic was quite disappointing as well - kind of "wallowed" diown the road. To get most of the options included on my Limited, you have to get the Preimum model and at almost $60K, leather interior was still an additional $1975.00 and heated seats were additional as well. I also drove the ML550, and while it drove sportier than the ML350, I wanted to be a bit greener and drive somthing that will at lease break 20mpg on the highway. The weight of the 550ML was approaching 5800lbs!! 3) BMW X5 - preferred this over the ML line up, but had many of the same concerns - overpriced/under optioned, heavy and not overly fuel efficient. 4) Land Rover - very heavy and pricy vehicles with a less than stellar reliability history. There were a couple of models I like the looks of but they really didn't appeal to me so I just drove one then went on my way/ Great status symbol, but I need more from my vehicles than that. 4) Lexus - only did a spec comparison on this vehicle so can't attest to the driving dynamics, but I just can't get past the looks - (to me) it is something my wife would drive. It was a bit more expensive than the MKX and didn't offer as quite as many options. In summary, most of the MKX competitors are still building heavy inefficent tanks and have a ways to go to be competitive (at any price) with the Edge/MKX. I really liked my Edge Limited except for two primary areas: 1) the FWD drove too much like a minivan - I prefer rear/all wheel drive vehicles and, 2) the cheap interior. The Edge seats were mostly flat and the leather on the Limited interior was really low quality. Additionally, the plastic door panels/dash/center stack trim left a lot to be desired. Even things like the rear seat bolt covers (to the floor) that are missing on the Edge (as compared to the MKX) make it look less than classy. The window switch covers and door panel inserts are very cheap looking plastic, I would have thought a $40K vehicle would have had a bit better finish in the interior. My Edge Limited MSRP was $40K...my MKX was $50K, below are the differences (specific to MY Limited vs MY MKX). Note that a couple of the options below you can get on on the Edge but for a fair price comparison I included everything I have on the MKX that did not come on the limited...and most of the options below - you can't get on the Edge. - AWD vs FWD - if you prefer rear wheel drive characteristics definitley get the AWD (either on the Edge or MKX). The 2 mpg penalty in gas mileage is definilty worth it (to me) to lose the FWD/minivan "torque steer" dynamic. - MKX is quieter, has thicker window glass, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled (three stage) front seats AND heated rear seats. The interior is quite a bit more upscale than the Limited. Much higher quality leather and better sculpted seats - not just different leather. Real wood trim on the steering wheel, dash and door panels is a nice touch, auto dim driver's side and rearview mirrors, electronic tilt/tele steering wheel linked to the memory position buttons, fog lights, console lid that slides to cover cup holders when not in use, lighted glove box and console interiors, global down on the front windows and vista roof (when unlocking the vehicle), larger engine that is still very efficient, dual exhaust, rain sensing wipers, more upscale exterior trim and taillights, Adaptive HID headlight system and BLISS with Cross Traffic Alert (CTA). In my opinion, after owning both the 2011 Edge Limited and now the 2011 MKX, I would choose the MKX. The Edge is also a fine vehicle and both are positioned well against thier respective competition. Good Luck!
  17. I've had good luck with them in the past on several Mustangs that I owned. Combined with a tune and freeer flowing exhaust they can make a difference. Basically the CAI is more about freeer flowing intake track and the tune increases timing and other engine variables. I'm not sure it would be worth it on the Edge as it is a V6 (that's actually quite peppy in stock trim) and I like the quiet in this kind of ride. I had a CAI/Tune/Magnaflow exhaust on an F-150 and while it did help the performace a bit, the added drone of the intake/exhaust were not worth the marginal increase in performace. I finally removed the CAI and exhaust just to quiet down the truck again....just my .02....
  18. Any help would be appreciated - thx!!
  19. With the IA Key, i find it a bit redundant; however, it is handy when the IA key is in the house and I need access to the interior. Of note, theives have figured out how to quickly pop open the keyless entry pad on the F-150 and open the doors...I'm hoping it's not as easy on the Edge...but I guess if they want in badley enough, they will find a way. I've tried, but don't think you can open the hatch on my '11 Edge with the Keyless entry pad - only lock/unlock the doors......
  20. All my Fords with the "Auto" light function have been slow to activate. This was consistent between my 2005 F-150 Lariat,my 2009 F-150 Platinum and now my 2011 edge Limited. The trick I use is to take a small piece of electricians black tape and put it on the top of the sensor that sits in the middle of the dash - right near the base of the windshield. You dont want to cover the entire sensor - or your lighits will constantly be on (in the auto mode). Experiment with the size and it will dictate how much earlier the light activate. Drives me nuts that on overcast, rainy days, the lights won't come on at all in the auto mode. My BMW's always come on after just a couple of seconds...just the way Ford programs thier Auto Light function I guess.
  21. Same thing on my 2011 Edge Limited...bought it new in Nov '10 and have about 5500 miles on it now. Was going to replace the stock brake/tail bulbs with Silver Stars (same wattage - different color hue, and when I had the rear lenses off noticed the sockets were discolored like the OP's....not quite that bad yet, but well on their way!! Didn't end up installing the Silver Stars though - couldn't tell any difference in brightness.
  22. What a moronic debate....neither of these vehicles are racing vehicles and a 5500lb + whale is never going to be rated 0-60 in 5.5 seconds! Weight KILLS performance - end of story!! Not saying the Edge is fast at all - but a 5600lb stock Escalade 0-60 in 5.5 seconds...LOL Personally, I'm glad to see the "conspicious consumption" lard cans on the decline - 12mpg for an ego mobile - that's just nuts and I was glad to see my nieghbors wife's Denali blow a head gasket so she had to trade it for an Acadia...now when she's doing 45 in a 25 (residental area) at least she can stop it quicker. Also happy to see the public got smart about those nasty Hummers...what a lame concept for a street vehicle those dinosaurs were: Cadillac Escalade SUV 0 to 60 mph and Quarter Mile Times 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT 0-60 mph 7.8 Quarter mile 15.6 2007 Cadillac Escalade 0-60 mph 6.2 Quarter mile 14.6 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT 0-60 mph 7.0 Quarter mile 15.4 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid 0-60 mph 8.3 Quarter Mile 16.3 2011 Cadillac Escalade 0-60 mph 7.0 2012 Cadillac Escalade 0-60 Coming Soon Ford Edge 0-60 times 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD 0-60 mph 7.5 Quarter mile 15.8 2008 Ford Edge Limited AWD 0-60 mph 7.5 Quarter mile 15.8 2011 Ford Edge SEL 0-60 mph 7.0 Quarter Mile 15.5 2011 Ford Edge Sport 0-60 mph 7.5 Quarter Mile 15.7
  23. to the OP - mine work every time - but it's because you need to touch (right above) the white bars/lines. Also, I like the Sony system, actually read it is better than the MKX THX System and the only reason Lincoln is still using the THX system is due to contractual reasons.....
  24. LOL...I was having that EXACT issue yesterday at CostCo - darn thing wouldn't go off
