My Kids Chose Japanese Competitors
akirby replied to pintokid's topic in Competing Crossovers & Vehicles
Corporations and businesses don't pay taxes - we do. Every dollar of tax paid by a business comes from the people who buy products or services from that business and that is us. Add a $10K tax to every car sold and every car's price would go up $10K. A high tax rate makes it much harder for businesses to expand and for new businesses to start. For every expansion or new business there is a business case that says it costs $X and we can make $Y. E.g. let's say it costs Ford $2B to expand a factory and they stand to make an extra $3B in profits over the life of that factory. At a 40% tax rate they only net $1.8B which makes it a losing proposition and they wouldn't do it. But at 20% they net $2.4B and it's a positive business case. That's why reducing the corporate tax rate is important and will result in more jobs over time. It's true that short term you won't see immediate jobs created but longer term you will. Not to mention attracting companies to the US that would have gone overseas. If you were looking to move to one of two counties and you liked both equally well but one had property taxes of $6K/yr and the other had $3K/yr wouldn't you take the $3K/yr all else being equal? We are competing with other countries for jobs now and a high tax rate makes us non-competitive. -
Probably. The big issue is the holdback which is never published publicly even though most people know the percentage.

No way they've built "thousands" of pre production units. Like dolsen says at best it's a couple of hundred for testing, dealer intros, etc. Nothing that's built before job 1 on 9/4 can be sold to the public though so like dolsen says it's irrelevant.

They were still on facebook and twitter after they stopped posting here but I don't know if they're still there. Yes they were a great resource. I think that stopped around the time Fields took over so that probably explains it. Cost cutting.
-
Sorry guys - we can't post that on a public forum. You can PM Rimcrin and get it individually. The dealer invoice pricing will be available soon on sites like edmunds, etc.

Ford rep? What Ford rep??
-
Well what did you expect from a lawnmower topic on a car website?
-
The 2016 Edge got pushed back longer than that although I'm not sure they announced an official date early on. The 2019 isn't a drastic change from the 2018 except for the new safety equipment/auto braking. That's the most likely suspect.
-
I know but the point is the Ford hasn't published either one yet and probably won't for at least another month, maybe two.
-
They never give reasons publicly but normally it's just delays in getting the vehicle ready (testing, tuning, driveability, new features). Suppliers are usually on board well in advance.

There is growth and there is overgrowth. When you go from one high school in 2008 to 4 high schools in 2019 in just the southern half of the county - that's overgrowth!
-
The Nautilus build and price is not public yet - somebody found a hidden link for it but it's not available officially yet. It probably won't be up until late August/Early September. They want to move the 2018s first.

The problem is the growth has been mostly concentrated in one quadrant of the county for the last 20+ years and they have not planned or executed road improvements ahead of time. Schools were a little better but still 2-3 years too late. The road project near our old house was 2 years late and the contractor only got a slap on the wrist and as far as I know was given new projects after that. Everything is reactionary from roads to schools and there is at least a 3 year lag. Also the impact fees are not high enough to cover the infrastructure improvements. The county we're moving to has had at least 2 medium and 3 smaller cities for decades and they have none of these problems. Too much power was concentrated with essentially 3 individuals for too long. Allowing all residents to vote for all 5 commissioners will help. I forgot to mention the city had the same mayor for 45 years - he was just replaced last year. There were a lot of shady deals between the city and county and county commissioners individually. The swamp is being drained now and some good folks are in charge but the damage has already been done. Glad to walk away from it in a few weeks.

I meant they aren't posted publicly on these forums with pricing. Dealers have access to the order guides with pricing so the author got it from a dealer.
-
But not thousands. I think he was confused about the job 1 date - it used to be 7/9 but got pushed back to 9/4.
-
Pressure washer or just a hose?
-
2019 Edge production including the ST doesn't start until September.
-
Prices are not usually posted with the order guides.

With A/C on max both fans should be on. I'd guess one fan is bad. Use Motorcraft/OEM replacements - aftermarket units don't work well if at all.
-
That’s a pretty smart way to do it. Kudos to the engineers.
-
That’s because it includes 21” gloss black wheels, summer performance tires and a brushless radiator cooling fan along with new rotors, painted calipers and pads.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with growth as long as it's managed properly. Approving 500 new homes in a district that is already overcrowded when it goes against the master plan and the recommendation of the planning committee and without enough impact fees to cover the required infrastructure upgrades is just insane. But it happens every day for the last 20 years. The same group (cartel actually) successfully campaigned against the new "city light" by feeding on residents' fear of higher taxes and with lies such as "you won't be able to choose your own garbage service" - an outright lie. Another common tactic is to get approval for a mixed use development with residential and commercial, then come back later and change the ratio so that it's effectively one or the other which would never have been approved initially. There is too much power in the hands of essentially 3 people on the county commission. And rather than allowing all residents to vote on all 5 commissioners you can only vote for the one in your district. And those 3 commissioners are heavily financed by the builders, developers and attorneys who stand to profit from unbridled growth.
-
Not at all. The difference is responsible growth which includes a mix of residential and commercial, a plan for upgrading the infrastructure (roads, schools) before they get overcrowded and impact fees that cover the cost of infrastructure. What has happened is a virtual carte blanche for developers to build super high density subdivisions in areas that are already overcrowded with impact fees that are too low. Usually against the recommendation of the planning committee and against the master plan. The builders and developers and real estate agents take their money and leave and the residents are left with severely overcrowded schools and roads and a tax increase to cover the infrastructure costs. Not to mention never ending road construction. When my old subdivision was built 23 years ago it was low density - 1/2 acre+ lots. 2 houses per acre. Now they’re putting up to 10 houses per acre. That’s fine for specific areas but when you do that over and over in the same area you overload the infrastructure and the residents suffer. There is a big difference between responsible managed growth and out of control growth.

I think I turn mine off more than I use them because of all the false alarms in drive thrus, etc.

Yeah but I think we exhausted the lawn mower topic already.
