Suggested mods (stocking stuffers) for the wife?
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Accessories & Modifications
OMG...my wife puts our Henkel knives in the dishwasher too but drives me even crazier is when she drops them in the sink and then covers them up with whatever other pots and pans she used. I get so pissed, besides the fact it sucks for the edge I just know someone is going to get hurt reaching in the sink. Also she has a tendency to only use the pairing (sp?) knife for everything. Drives me nuts, use the right tool for the job! We too used to have a nice set of Calphalon non-stick cookware. i thought it was safe since I got rid of all the spoons, spatulas etc that had metal but one day saw her stirring something a soup spoon. Probably doesn't help either when she burns stuff into the pans. Now we have a Calphalon SS set which I am hoping is somewhat indestructible. Sad part is she is still much better than two of my sisters. One once failed making pasta because she forgot to add water to the pot and people smelled something funny. Turned out to be the handles melting. Another time she put a pizza in the oven to keep warm....at 450...in the box...and sat on the deck for 20 minutes enjoying some drinks. -

Is that for safety reasons? I do a lot of the cooking too but that is for everyone's safety. There are a couple of things she can really do a great job on but even those I worry she is going to get hurt and somehow she uses every dish, bowl and pot in the house to make even simple dishes. Yes it is. Having three older sisters I am all too familiar. -
Thanks for the heads up but at least for my configuration they still came out to be more than Flood Ford by about $150. But I guess I should start watching to see if they do some holiday sales.

I don't get worshiped at home so I'll take what I can get. Funny thing is I got her this hand bag last year from Ferragamo and when she took it out of the closet this weekend she hugged it like a long lost friend....I was jealous. -
Does anyone in the NNJ area have these installed? I think they look awesome but would really like to get a ride in one before taking the plunge.

OEM HID part Information

HIDs on the Edge use D3S bulbs, halogens use 9012 bulbs...I don't think the mount for the bulbs is the same so I can't see how they are interchangable. -

Well I usually try to just get a GC that I know will cover a few services and let her decide if she wants a day away or a couple outings so she can feel renewed a couple of times. As for the clothes and shoes she usually likes what I pick but womens sizes are stupid. Shoes run pretty much the same but a size 6 in one brand is anothers 8 and anothers 4. Just find it irratating. Oh and also how no matter how many pairs of shoes she may have none ever work with a dress I might get. -

Well our little guy just turned a year recently, so needless to say the wife has been feeling a bit run down lately. So I was going to send her and her friend for a couple nights to an all-inclusive place...somewhere warm. But it seems like her friend may only be able to do two nights which didn't seem to make much sense to bother so I might get to go :happy feet: well if I can find a baby sitter. Beyond that I will probably get her a GC to a spa or something so she has something to look forward to every now and then. I refuse to buy her clothes, shoes or jewelry....she is way too picky. I'll go with her to help her pick something and to supervise the CC use but have given up on doing on my own. Oh by the way just got the keyring. It is OK, has a decent feel to it and from a foot away the laser etching looks good. When you get up close the edges could be cleaner. There are a couple of minor dings things that are slightly off but it was cheap so I don't expect it to be perfect. Besides the keys will likely scratch and ding it up some too. Overall not bad for the money. -

You'd have to change the housings since the bulbs are different. I don't know if anyone has actually done a real swap since you also need to get the auto levelers working and you'd likely need to get things programmed. Most people pick up a set of aftermarket HIDs with a 9006 bulb. -

I have to get off my butt and order a set. I had DDM's in my last car and they worked great. On occasion one ballast wouldn't light but it was a 55W kit w/o an harness so I was probably pushing the electrical systems capabilities. I hear you on the aiming...right now I think the stock aim is terrible. For some reason the drivers side is actually higher than the passengers side. -
Is the 6864 the total count on songs between the two USB drives? And just to clariy you have both USB drives connected in the console? If you go to browse does it only show you artists and albums for the current USB? What about voice commands; if you ask for an artist that is on another USB can it find it? If the indexing does span the multiple devices to essentially make them one that would be awesome. Then the only issue I would have is to figure out how to do file maintenance on them. I was going to mess with this today so thanks for saving me the trouble of sitting out in the cold.

Series 100 Remote Start Price?

Sorry the install sheet I was given doesn't list the individual part numbers. -
Nice ride but damn you got it dirty quick! Ours seems to be the same, that bottom half seems to collect a lot of crap anytime the roads are wet.

Can't blame the music library size on her. That is my fault. We often listen to different stuff so I have stuff for her and stuff for me. But any other ideas on little things? -

Cool flash drive...just two problems. So far she has over 60GB of music and well she is clumsy. SO I am worried about the USB port in the console getting destroyed by something so I want to hide it all back by the APIM. -

I picked up the keychain on Ebay but saw it at Amazon too but it was more there. I'll have to take a look at the vent visors. But other goodies for the car will likely be a remote start, hidden hard drive installation and I think I'll be doing the LED's in the glove box and console. -
Congrats on the baby...get your sleep now!

Looks like the activation channel is 184 for Sirius.

Good luck with the new ride. I forget which channel it is but one of the channels always plays even if you don't have service. You might want to try that station to rule out the antenna and tuner. If that is working then maybe someone forgot to initialize your account???

Honestly I doubt I would use it but thought since they are planning on sending out the flash drives they may also include at least a quick guide. -
So here is the deal, both the wife and I prefer mods to be understated, functional and look stock. But there seems to be slim pickings with the Edge and I am here for some ideas. I already have plans for the wife's bigger Christmas gifts so now I am looking for cute stocking stuffer (ie lower cost) items. So far I picked her up a Ford Edge keychain shaped like a handbag and I just found this I think she would find funny. Any other ideas for a little something?

I would hope that any future updates to the software would be provided free via a download but you never know. On a side note; does anyone think they will provide a new manual? Was just looking through what is in the owners manual and MFT manual and it seems like they would need to update this, just not sure if they intend on doing this or have done this with other revisions they have made. -

Don't think that is for MFT...just sync radios. I didn't see where it said MFT and they specifically mention that it will be familiar interface for millions. I don't think there are that many MFT's in the field yet. -

Found another article, some parts corroborate some raise more questions. Below is a link to the full article and my comments are in red. http://www.thevehicleparts.com/change-the-oil-upgrade-the-firmware-the-digital-dilemma-when-cars-and-computers-collide/ “And, in a move that seems unprecedented in the industry, Ford plans to send USB flash drives to the owners of quarter million existing MyFord Touch-equipped vehicles in the United States so they can upgrade their MyFord Touch systems to the new software….. (The company hasn’t yet announced upgrade plans for the 200,000 or so MyFord Touch-equipped models that have been sold internationally.)” I thought I read somewhere there were over 600k vehicles with the MFT. Can anyone confirm the numbers? Just wondering if Ford isn’t planning on sending the USB drives out to everyone or if there is some sort of priority being given. “Interestingly, Ford is not upgrading the actual hardware behind the MyFord Touch system: It’ll still have an 8-inch touchscreen, sport 2GB of flash storage, and be powered by a 400MHz Freescale ARM 11 processor with 256MB of RAM with a separate head unit for handling audio. In other words, it sports considerably less storage and processing power than a low-end smartphone.” More corroboration that the hardware is unchanged…at least for the 2013. “Now, imagine buying a used car. If a used vehicle has an in-vehicle information system, odds are that the vehicle’s new owner is going to have to jump through many hoops — and shell out a fair bit of money — to use it. In new vehicles, virtually all in-vehicle systems are activated, with fees for using the service rolled into the price of the system. (The $750 price for the most basic MyFord Touch as an option probably covers less than $100 in parts: The rest is installation, fees, and margin for Ford and dealers). After a free period — three years for MyFord Touch — users have to start paying subscription fees to keep their navigation and other services active. Used vehicle buyers will have to start paying a lot sooner — perhaps from day one — or they simply won’t be able to use the technology. For used car buyers, sophisticated in-vehicle systems have up-front costs and pain.” I think this is a bit misleading. As far as I know the only services you’d have to pay for would be satellite radio and sync services if you choose to keep them. But much of the main functionality will remain. And those with SD card Nav will continue to have nav…just seems an overstatement to say you won’t be able to use the technology. “A few years from now, it might be common to see dark, dead touchscreens in the middle of dashboards. Non-functional or unusable in-vehicle systems could detract from a value of a vehicle if — as in the case of MyFord Touch — they’re the only way to handle core functions like climate control or volume levels.” Honestly didn’t think much about this. But does have me wondering what would happen if something goes bad in the future. I think many of the parts are already near the end of their life cycle, so finding replacements will be tough unless Ford stocks a bunch which I doubt. I would also guess that there is a fair amount of proprietary connectors, drivers, etc that make drop in replacements almost impossible. -
Congrats on the new ride. The options for mods are somewhat limited...I was kind of surprised by that since there are so many of these out there but ebay does have some of the chrome stuff you're talking about.
