I think if you stay with a newer 2.5" you'll be fine. I had originally played around with an old laptop HDD that was a 40GB in an enclosure but it didn't always power off the bus. The others that I have been using were powered off the bus without issues and ranged in size from 160-750GB. I did have one drive that came with a dual ended USB cable so you could get power off of two ports but I never needed it. Overall all the newer drives worked fine...when MFT decides it wants to play nice. But where the hell did you find a 1TB flash drive for $50? I have only seen the one from Swiss Army that was released at CES and the list price is 3k!

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Funny we were told to remove our phones from the system. I know they aren't causing the problem but we did it anyway just to prove a point. But I couldn't believe it when that was their suggestion. One of the primary reasons we bought this car was the fact it was supposed to integrate the phone so well that we would never have to take our hands or eyes off the road. Funny several free headsets, headphones, BT speakerphones, laptops etc all connect via BT to these phones with no problems. But according to Ford this system can't seem to handle them. Oh and removing the SD card did nothing the one time I tried. I think I got a Nav Fault message and then a reboot. Pulled the card but the system continued rebooting for 10+ minutes. -
I was going to do the same but didn't want to decrease the storage capacity then I read a thread about an extra port on the APIM. I plan on storing the drive inside the console but I am holding off doing this since we are having so many issues with the system. I don't want to give Ford any reason to try to blame anything else for the problems.

A secret we want to share

Really? I thought some of the items I checked out weere pretty tempting. -
I did post a link to an Ebay auction for one coming out of China that looked promising but they couldn't supply pics of it mounted in an 11 so I passed. But I have seen them relist it. Looks pretty nice, has a retractable cover and on the seat side has a split that allows you to individually recline each side. The only thing I didn't like was you have to screw mounts into the plastic sides. If I knew it fit right I would get it though.

Well Ford got me a reboot app but told me it is going to wipe everything out. They have already asked me to remove the phone pairings to try to stabilize the system but now I am wondering if this app is worth the trouble if I have to reset all those settings in nav, audio etc. I might try it this weekend when I have time to go through and reset everything if need be. If it does wipe everything I may give your version a shot.

I mostly agree with this but unfortunately a lot of people buy all the vehicle...house...etc they can afford at the time and don't leave much in their budgets for other things or circumstances that might come up. I normally put snows on ever vehicle we own, AWD or not because drivetrain doesn't help me stop or turn. One saved accident will save me a bunch of money in insurance/liability. I also have found having dedicated snows ends up costing no more over a few years because I don't end up paying for mounting and balancing two times a year. Plus if there is a mild winter I can rock the all-seasons and switch back easy if it gets nasty. With all that said I don't have snows on the Edge but it isn't money related...we are trying to sit through one winter to see what happens since we are having several issues with the vehicle and want to make sure they are resolved before investing more money.

If you go through the menu on the left side of the speedo you'll find the settings for the remote start. I think it is under Settings but not positive. But to answer your question yes it is normal to shut off at 10 minutes and I think the max is 15. I think this is done for several reasons...one of which is local/state ordinances about idling. The other is just in case you accidentally turned it on it won't continue until it runs out of gas. When you get into the menu screen for the remote start you'll also be able to set HVAC and other items to On/Off/Auto.

Yeah it was 5 degrees this morning...I can't keep taking the risk that she is going to have heat for her and my little man ever time they go out. I was just hoping that Ford would come through with a reboot app for me that wouldn't require a power cycle. Most of the roads by us have no shoulders so there is no place to safely pull over and if she is out of our area she'll be on Rt 80 or 287 and even though there is a shoulder people are idiots and I don't want her sitting on the shoulder with people going by at 80-90mph.

I am hoping to get one from Ford that forces the reboot while driving but my contact there claims to have never heard of it. If I don't hear back tomorrow though this will be in the car....already have it downloaded and on the flashdrive.

We love our Edge (excluding the MFT). It is a nice ride is very capable family hauler and offers a pretty damn good value. But with that said if this MFT doesn't turn around soon I will be pursuing a lemon law. I have been "working" with SMR tech support, IVT support and Ford CS...still no better. Most recently they replaced the APIM and within days it was back to locking up. Beyond these constant MFT issues we also have several TSB's that apply to our vehicle which I have mentioned to my dealer and Ford CS...still nothing has been fixed even with Ford CS Regional Manager's assurance all would be taken care of. So I am quite dissillutioned with Ford right now. What I would suggest is sitting tight to see what happens with the rewrite. Chances are it will be a huge improvement but it is a big gamble to take. I know there are pretty good incentives on 11's now but based on recent threads saying 13's will be in production soon I am sure you'll see incentives improving on those too.

Don't know for sure but if you even mention a clunking sound I would check out the TSB for clunks....not sure if applies to your year but that would be my starting point.

I think someone here posted instructions but if I remember correctly it does require cutting/stripping existing wires. It isn't a plug and play harness. Found it.

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Our screen has stayed on several times now. So I wouldn't be surprised if somehow the MFT was the drain of the power and caused it to be dead. This is now my fear as it happened again yesterday. At this point I think I may at the very least switch cars with the wife. I can't have her stuck somewhere with a one year old in the cold waiting for a jump, We bought the car because we wanted something with more room and would be more reliable than her old Audi, so far this is not the case. I am hoping things will turn around but unfortunately I am losing faith. -
2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yesterday our Edge sat in the driveway because the screen was completely inoperable. No control over anything including heat. Getting too cold around here to have a one year old sitting in a freezing car for an hour or so. Screen was stuck indicating radio was on phone was paired but none of this was true. The wife called me for help but since the screen was unresponsive I couldn't have her do a master reset. When I got home the screen was locked in the same state...even indicated the same time. The other strange thing was as soon as I approached the vehicle (after unlocking door) the screen was on. What worries me even more was the fact it remained on after closing the doors and locking the vehicle. Really concerned she will go out one morning and the battery will be dead. I ended up pulling the fuse and that forced a reboot. After that it seemed to have some functionality. Though it wouldn't pair to my phone. -
That's why I contacted the seller. It was obvious from the pic of it installed it was not the 2011 Edge. But the other picture provided is of the actual unit and so are the installation instructions. I wasn't willing to take the leap of faith on it but I was hoping whomever purchased it from Ebay is here and will post their results.

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Maybe that will help the other poster but it did nothing for me except clear my settings and phones. Also my unit reboots every few dys on its own several times in a row. Dealer just replaced the APIM on Friday; haven't seen a reboot yet but the audio sources have switched twice on their own so it doesn't looks like my problem is gone with 2.11. -
Is someone here bidding on that cargo cover? Just noticed two people bidded on it. If so please post you review on the forum so we all know how well it works.

Oh man...bad visual

Went back and listened again...not sure what to think. He did say 45 min to an hour based on how old AND what version software they are on. Could have just been a slip and he didn't mean that but who knows. I do know the update from 2.8 to 2.11 took at least an hour, not sure of the exact time but I think ours was made in 3/11.
-
Didn't catch that what time marker? But I wouldn't be surprised since many say their update took 40 minutes as expected but man others like me it took a solid hour.

This can't come soon enough!

As I get older I am starting to see having three older sisters was a blessing...now I know what I think doesn't matter and even if logic and reason is on your side there is no reason to mention it...becuase I just don't get it. :P By the way I have metal frame Oakleys too, simple and effective.
