  1. Not really true. In all three cars we had seized the parking brake was used everytime the car was parked. Most of these system still use a cable and when corrosion starts it drags. Often they use springs to assist the release but this only works so long. It is basically the same set up as on my mountain bike and I have to change those cables every year to keep them working smoothly.
  2. Well even in the states the aftermarket HID kits are illegal for street use. I am not even sure if you do a projector retro if that is enough...I think you have to have auto-leveling. But with that said I would agree that the stock bulbs are pretty good. I am still tempted to upgrade to 55W HIDs especially since in the last week I have seen three bears hit on the side of the road and at least a dozen deer. Any help I can get in spotting them will make me a little more comfortable.
  3. I don't have HD radio but do have occasion source changes with MFT. Do you notice this with any other sources or just when you listen to HD?
  4. We had an issue on an Acura Integra and Audi A4 and my sister had it on a Honda Accord or Prelude can't remember which one. Don't know about Kansas but in NJ they use so much salt in the winter it destroys just about everything under the car.
  5. I never use mine even on a manual unless the slope is crazy and I don't think the curb will stop the vehicle. But I guess maybe we should start using it....I only stopped using them because we had two cars have cable issues which caused a seizure of the caliper.
  6. Sounds like when you are turning it on the air is so cold you chill the windshield and are getting condensation on the outside requiring you to use the wipers to clear it. I have seen this on occasion in some vehicles. But with that said I think Akirby's suggestion is a good one, turn the temp all the way up. If the temp doesn't change I would think there is a problem. Most people need to use the defroster when it is cold out and the cold outside air causes condensation inside the cabin, so I wouldn't think they would want to freeze the occupants trying to clear condensation.
  7. Oh man that is tough. Can't imagine seeing that and knowing there is nothing you can do. What are the chances of that? Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But reading this just made me go over and hug my son because you never know.
  8. I haven't purchased from them yet but if I do this on my own I plan to use them only because the pre sales support was great. I had questions on how to install the kit and they sent me the pdf. Other questions I had were also responded to quickly.
  9. The pricing you list for the 100 is pretty standard and no there will not be any wiring for that kit going up to the front of the car. The DIY thread was on the 200 series which is the bidirectional remote start and integrate alarm system. You can also buy just the bidirectional remote start for around 225 plus hood switch. Depending on your needs each has its advantages. The 100 is pretty slick since you'll get two new keys with integrated start button but range is only 300 feet. The bidirectional comes with one keyfob but has feedback so you know the vehicle started and increases the range to 1000 feet. But neither will require wiring to the front of the vehicle, that is for alarm system only. If I could get the dealer to initialize min for 30 bucks I would be doing it myself, but the cheapest I have found so far is 100 bucks. I am still waiting to hear the quote for the complete install.
  10. Never tried the sync services but figured the voice recognition would be the same but I'll give it a try. But when you say more updated what do you mean? Or are you saying it will be the sync directions so it won't use the map and by-passes the outdated data on the nav card?
  11. A couple times I had to use the nav I didn't really have the option of pulling over. I was on a highway that was under construction and had basically no shoulder so there was no safe place to stop. Really got my blood pressure up trying to get the voice commands to take.
  12. True but I much prefer the integrated approach if possible. I hate having clutter in the car and having stuff slide around. Besides for me it isn't just video in motion it is more for the other features they block like inputting an address while moving. Maybe with the next revision it will be a mute point but right now my voice recognition is terrible, I have less than a 50% chance of it making it all the way through.
  13. Well if you wanted stick they were only made in 05, mine was one of the very few LGT wagons with a stick. Fun fun fun. But the wife just couldn't do the clutch on that car and I kept reading more and more major failures on the forum. Got to the point I figured it was best to get out of it before it might be worth nothing. I do think when I replace the Audi I will be heading back in that direction though. Tough to beat the performance and great aftermarket support.
  14. I didn't think the lockpick was bad...I think the current version is around 250 but the nav tv version was rediculous at over 400 and requires you to cut harnesses. Still ight be too much for me to justify and I think I'd wait until after the update to see if the software changes have any effect on its functionality.
  15. Recently I was searching through ebay for ideas/parts for the Edge and came across one vendor that claimed they had a lockpick that worked with the 2011 Edge and Explorer. I got excited hoping it was compatible with the MFT but when I went to the manufacturers site sadly it wasn't. But I did send them an email and they confirmed that the MFT version is in the final stages and should be released after the new year. So maybe we'll all have some working MFT software and a way to get around some of the interlocks they programmed in soon.
  16. That would be interesting.
  17. Our suction cup marks dissapeared after a few weeks of rain. I think the wipers just rubbed it off.
  18. Are you sure that is all he tried to shove in there? But beyond that I am surprise to hear it keeps doing this after the car is shut off. have you gone back after an hour or so to confirm it is still trying to load? I would have thought the power to the radio was switched so it couldn't do this. Some vehicles have retained accessory power but it usually doesn't last long in order to save the battery.
  19. Wow seems like you are overly sensitive. I posted this thread because I thought it was ironic they would chose that screen of all screens to show in their ad. To me it makes no sense, even if they were trying to advertise sync. It would have been a lot more impressive to people seeing the commercial if it had a full color screen, or showing some 3D map, giving you your 5 day weather forecast...anything really. If they really wanted to get the sync message across they are better off saying it than showing it...most peoples eyes will not be drawn to a black and white image unless they know to look for it.
  20. Just found this deal at Adorama through slickdeals...32GB Sandisk Extreme Class 10 for $53. If you go for 16GB you can get a super talent for 15 or Kingston for 20
  21. wow no kidding on the prices. For those interested in pickig something up check out slickdeals.net.
  22. I never said the MFT/MLT was rebooting in the commercial and I am sure they put it there to advertise sync. If you look at my original post I did mention it was missing the performing maintenace part. I just posted it because I thought it was funny since many people are seeing a similar screen but not for the same reason.
  23. Hope it stays that way for you...but oddly enough we seem to have the most problems on start up. The majority of our reboots are when you first start up the car, sometimes it does it once other times it will be and endless loop. I too have tried to make it happen by running nav, USB music etc and it still seems to be OK most of the time. So at least for our system it seems to be something during start up that kills it.
  24. This isn't the one I saw but about 27 seconds in you'll see the black Sync screen:
  25. chartHalfway down the page you'll find a chart but to be honest not all cards are created equal and many (usually from Ebay) are not what they say they are.
