Great Pics! I was not a happy camper when I got stuck with a Mediterranean Blue 2011 but the color is starting to grow on me. Depending on lighting conditions, I have either a blue or a green Edge!

Help me figure out which bumper part this is (WITH PICS!)

Ya need part number 9. Maybe take it completely off and see what it looks like without the valance. -
2011 SEL with factory basic single CD system. I want to tap into the front speaker leads behind the stereo to run a line level converter for a small amp and a set of Boston components. Anyone tear into the dash yet or is there a remote amp somewhere?

2011 EDGE CENTER CONSOLE TRAY: GONE !!!
fishx65 replied to Razorback007's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I made one of these shelves out of a chunk of ABS plastic a few weeks ago. I don't like to hear things rattle around so I covered it with automotive carpet along with the bottom of the coin tray. Ford should hang it's head in shame for leaving out this cheap little tray. I don't see how anyone can get by without doing this simple mod!!!!!!! -
Yes, I don't think it's a good idea to use a rubberized undercoat for rustproofing as it would probably trap water in interior panels. A rustproofing product is much different then a undercoat product. 3M makes a few good rustproofing products that can be sprayed inside interior panels. Rubberized undercoat is strictly for underneath a vehicle and needs to be applied properly. If not done and maintained properly, it can actually do more damage then good. If done right, it can keep a "salt belt" vehicle's bottom rust free for a really long time.

So are all these products pretty much the same? Is a waterless wash spray the same thing as a quick detail spray? I would guess that a really good microfiber towel is the most important part of doing this. The ones I have from Griot's Garage are really thick and plush compared to the ones I've seen at local stores. Any place local I can get a good deal on some nice MF towels?

It could be what some call rail-dust. All vehicles get it but it really shows up on white. Most of my vehicles have been white over the years so I have dealt with it for a loooooong time. I always use a cleaner wax or a claybar to remove it. Google rail-dust when you get a chance.

Was screwing around today and decided to try a waterless wash product that's been sitting on a garage shelf for a long time. This is the 1st time in about 20 years that I've owned a dark colored vehicle (2011 Mediterranean Blue) and the way it shows dust is driving me crazy. About a week ago the Edge received a nice claybar job and two coats of Zaino. Well, I grabbed the waterless stuff and sprayed some on the chrome grill and wiped it down with one of the Micro-fiber towels provided. To my surprise it worked awesome and I could tell that it was not scratching the surface!!! Only took me about 10 minutes to do the entire vehicle and she looks awesome. I would never try this if the Edge was more then just dusty but it's a great way to keep it nice and clean during long stretches of nice weather. Very handy product to have on the shelf! The product I used was from Griot's Garage and I'm not sure if it's a decent waterless system but it did a great job. The best part was not having to deal with waterspots! Judging from the amount of product I used, I would guess that the bottle I have would last for about 25 or so wipe-downs.

9012 to 9011 (2011 headlights)
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Thanks wlepse! Please do let me know if you see a big difference at night. The increase should be about 650 lumens from the 9012 to 9011. I switched out the h11's for H9's on the low beams of my 2010 Edge, which is about a 750 lumen increase, and I could really notice a big difference. Maybe your 9011's are not that bright compared to the Toshiba 9011's or maybe an increase in lumens does not show as well in projector style lights. Wish I knew! -
I've been researching the best way to get more light out of the very weak 2011 Edge projectors. I was set to go with the Toshiba 9011 HIR bulbs but after looking at this thread I'm not so sure. The pics seem to show that these HID kits work really well in the 11 projectors and the highbeam flap system is an advantage with these. Looks to me like the beam pattern stays about the same as stock. I do a lot of driving on dark rural roads so I want to make sure that whatever mod I make is very durable. Is it pretty common for these ballasts to go bad? Anyone been operating an aftermarket HID kit for years without any problems?

9012 to 9011 (2011 headlights)
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Please let me know if you try them out or compare the bases to see how they need to be modded to fit. I might go ahead and order a set of the 9011 Toshibas that are still floating around. I was even looking at adding a set of PIAA's that I have laying around but I'm sure they would look a little funky on the front of an Edge. There is just no place to mount an extra set of lights on this thing! I did see that KC makes a cool little lightbar for the 2010 and below Edge. It's really small and sits at the bottom of the grill. http://www.kchilites.com/store/products/7427-%252d-Front-Lite-Bar%3A-2006%252d09-Ford-Edge-Blk-2%252dtab.html -
9012 to 9011 (2011 headlights)
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
No one has tried this yet???? I just took a night run up to my Northern Michigan cabin for a few days and the factory 9012's are really weak. Since these projectors just use a flap for the brights they just go a little higher but don't get any brighter. After a little snooping around I found out that most autoparts stores can get AC Delco 9011's. 40 bucks each!!!! I'm just not sure if the little projectors can handle a little extra heat. -
I think my dash is made of Teflon...
fishx65 replied to Dingo's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
A word of warning about Velcro on a dash. It will permanently stain a dash if left on to long. I found this out the hard way when I installed some tweeters on each side of my F150's dash. It left two tweeter sized purple circles!!!!! -
It's just a rubber washer/gasket. Just finished putting it back on the drain plug. Not sure it was gonna leak without the gasket cuz I heated her up pretty good and didn't get any leakage. I would never have slept good if I didn't make it right!!!!

I've been doing oil changes on all my Ford vehicles for 26 years. I just did the 1st oil change on my 2011 and had something happen for the first time ever. After I changed the oil, I was pouring the old oil from the drain pain into a container for disposal and saw something in the oil fall into the container. It looks like it's the drain plug gasket!!!!! It must have gotten stuck to the oil pan and fallen into the drain pan while I was draining the oil. The gasket has been built into the drain plug on all the recent Fords I've had so I was kinda surprised to see this. Years ago you always had to make sure the gasket was there. It's not leaking yet but now I gotta drain the fresh oil to put the frickin gasket back on!

Good one! I think I might make my hunting cabin's lawn tractor an Edge SEL!!!

I purchased a white 2010 SEL from my parental units a few months ago with 10,000 miles on it. They then went out and picked up a 2011 Mediterranean Blue SEL. They did not like the 2011 because of the stiffer ride. They were about to take a huge hit by trading in the new one so I offered to trade them the White 2010 they originally purchased. I also like the 2010 more but don't mind the 11. A few things I like more on the 2011 is the much cooler looking front end, stronger and better sounding 3.5 and it gets a few MPG's better. I just wish they would have gone with White again!!!!!

Won't bother explaining but I got stuck with a Mediterranean Blue 2011 SEL. Was not to crazy about the color but to top it off the dealership painted on a red and beige pinstripe!!!!! What the heck were they thinking???? Kinda getting used to the body color but finally couldn't take the pinstripe any longer so I got crazy the other night. First I tried the Easy-off oven cleaner trick but it did not work at all. Next in line was Laquer thinner. After about 3 hours of light rubbing with the thinner and a little polishing and waxing, the pinstripe is gone! Kinda freaky using Laquer Thinner on a brand new vehicle but it did the trick and didn't bite into the clearcoat at all. Another strange thing with this vehicle is that the EDGE emblem was put on crooked. I ended up removing it along with the SEL emblem.

Just got done undercoating my 2011 SEL. Not a hard job if you have a set of ramps or a lift. I just used ramps. Mine was pretty clean so I just gave it a quick wipe-down with grease and wax remover before starting. I used a chunk of cardboard in one hand to avoid overspray and went to town with 7 cans of rubberized undercoating. Took me about 2 hours but I still need to remove the wheels to reach a few areas I wanna hit. I was gonna take it in but I've never been to happy with all the overspray the so called "professionals" seem to get all over the rims and body panels. After a lot of research, I went with 3M's Professional Rubberized Undercoat. Kind of expensive but works fantastic and has a shorter drying time. With an online code, I was able to get it from Advance Auto for around $6.50 per can. I plan on touching it up every year cuz Michigan's winter salt factory is a killer.

After a full week in the 2011 I can add a few more observations. The 11's steering wheel controls for the radio and cruise control are much easier to operate without looking. The 2011's basic single disc stereo sounds horrible!!!! So far, I seem to be getting about 2 MPG better then the 2010 did. Just drove 230 miles to my Northern Michigan cabin and got 27 MPG according to the idiot gauge. Kept her at 76 MPH on the highway. The 2010 has much brighter headlights. I'm working on trying some higher wattage bulbs for the 2011's projectors. The 2011 is slowly growing on me but I still miss the smoother ride of the 10.

Just got some 39mm Festoons in the mail for my 2011 SEL and tried to install them. They fit the rear cargo light just fine but the round metal ends are way to small to fit tight in the rear dome. Where did I go wrong? I've got them working with a few wraps of good old aluminum foil but I'd rather order the right size.
