Slyvania Silverstar Lamps
fishx65 replied to 3-mer's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Just switched the 11's for a set of 9's in my 2010's lowbeams. I just went with the regular Sylvania H9's for 10 bucks a pop. Cutting off the extra tab is pretty simple but you have to take your time and make sure to get all the way down into the socket. If ya don't get deep enough, the clips won't lock when you go to install them. I just used an exacto knife. Have not had a chance to try them out yet but I did compare them after I did one side. The H9 is indeed a lot brighter then the 11. Should be a nice upgrade for those long, Northern Michigan, rides to the cabin. Lots of deers!!!!! -
Thanks Dog! I'm getting ready for a "Do it yourself" undercoating and rustproofing job on a 2010. I don't think we know where the Edge is gonna rust out first yet cuz it is still a newer model. I'll definitely spend some extra time on the hood.

I'd guess 80% CC. Should add that I was trying to see how well she could do so I didn't stomp on her at all. Got a long Michigan UP trip coming up so I'll be checking MPG manually.

Just cranked out 500 miles on the highway. 75 mph, 73 degrees and rolling terrain. According to the computer I averaged 25mpg. Not to bad if the idiot gauge is even close to accurate. This is a 2010 SEL FWD with 10,000 miles on the odometer. Much better then the 03 5.4 liter F150 and pretty close to the 04 Taurus.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I found some low cost front mudflaps that work pretty good with no drilling required. I picked up a set of basic flat plastic Highland flaps at Pepboys for around $5.00. Highland number is 3905100-B. Not sure about other years but my 2010 SEL has two factory screws in the perfect place. I just took the factory screws out, made a cardboard template of the flap, marked the factory screw locations, drilled the holes through the Highland flaps and installed them . They mounted up perfect and look pretty darn good (Not to big!!!). Looks like they should add some decent protection to the lower body. Sorry, no pics.

Fixed the rough ride on a 2011 SEL
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
It's an SEL that came with 18's. Just noticed that Monroe has the Sensatracs available for the rears of the Edge. Back in 2003 I replaced the stock Rancho labled shocks at about 6,000 miles on my new F150 (Off Road package) with Sensatracs and it made a pretty good difference in ride quality. Anyone try the Sensatracs yet? Also, I was reading that Ford retuned the suspension on the Edge for 2011. I wonder if they firmed it up a little. I've driven them both in the last few days and there is no question in my mind that the 10's ride is softer then the 11's. Michigan roads are like a test track for suspensions!!!!!!!! -
Fixed the rough ride on a 2011 SEL

I don't mind a "I told ya so" so I'll be sure to post when all the tires shred and she rolls over! Thanks for your replies. Bye-Bye now. -
No, never wrecked. This vibration is very slight and most people would not even notice it but I've been into cars for a long time and kinda know when something does not feel right. I'm almost wondering if this is just normal engine vibration on the Edge. I checked for TSB's and nothing came up. It's something I can live with but I'll always know it's there.

Fixed the rough ride on a 2011 SEL
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Since the farthest they drive is about 5 miles in the city to the doctor or the local Bigboy at about 40mph I think they will be OK with an extra 360lbs and 5 psi low. Anyone know what psi will trigger the low pressure warning system?? -

Ba Bye Salt, Hello Bugs.....
fishx65 replied to Hopper's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
I always put some WD40 on a soft rag and wipe down the front end and mirrors before each trip to my Northern Michigan cabin. The bugs will spray right off and this method has never damaged the paint. I always purchase white vehicles and a thousand bugs on the front end never looks good. -
We Need a defect thread on 2011 Ford Edge

I know everyone likes gadgets but the smart thing to do is save your money when upgrading electronics in a new vehicle and look to the aftermarket when you get her home. For the amount of money they charge for factory GPS and stereo systems one can get top of the line equipment using the aftermarket. There are some awesome products out there and even the best factory stereo system can't even come close to a custom install. Your ears will love you for it!!!!! -
Time to move the system to an Edge!
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Thanks a lot for the info Hunter! Your post has some really good pics that will help me with my install. Looks like my old (2003) Alpine 9813 does not have the ability to interface with the steering wheel controls but I can live without them. It does look like I can run an adaptor cable off the back of the Alpine to the factory auxillary port which will be kinda cool. Your pics show me that there is a ton of room to work in the Edge's dash once I remove the panel and stock radio. I think this is gonna be a really easy install! -
My parental units just picked up a 2011 SEL and were already thinking about selling it because of the rough ride(200 miles on the odometer). Parents are 73 & 74. I ended up putting 6 bags of tube sand (60lbs each) in the back and it really improved the ride. They seem to be happy now and they are not worried about losing some room and a few MPG's. I was able to get two of the bags along the spare and the other 4 are just laying in the back. I've got the tires at 32 psi. Any other ideas to smooth her out even more for the old folks?

Just picked up a really nice 2010 SEL with the regular 6 disc radio and no sub. Been moving my system from vehicle to vehicle for a long time (Explorer to F150 to Taurus). System consists of an Alpine single din, two 6 1/2 fronts, 2 silk dome tweets, one 10 inch sub and two amps. Everything gets crossed over in the Alpine. Small sub box is just gonna sit in the back. Just wondering if there is anything I need to look out for. Is there a remote amp in my Edge? Metra or scosche dash kit look better? Good location for the tweets? Is there any way to get the steering wheel controls to operate with my Alpine?

Maybe I never got going fast enough to where it would let me shift past M3. I'll check it out again this weekend.
-
Drove a new 2011 the other day and was screwing around with the Manual shift mode. Looked like you can only shift through 3 gears (M1,M2 and M3). I don't see a reason to use manual shift. What the heck is it for? Maybe taking off in icy conditions?

Found it. Kind of an interesting read. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm

I remember seeing a test a few years ago where someone put some kind of white filter sheet behind a few different air filters. He claimed that he drove each of them in the same conditions and posted pics of each filter sheet and air filter after a certain number of miles driven. The test did show that the K&N and other filters like it let more dirt pass through then regular paper element filters. Not that I believe everything on the net but I stopped using K&N's back when I purchased a new 2003 F150. I can't say that using a K&N is a bad idea cuz I never did have any internal engine problems during the many years I used them.

This is a 2010 3.5 SEL with 10,000 miles. I'm getting a slight vibration while driving at highway speeds only when I'm on the pedal. As soon as I take my foot of the pedal and coast the vibration goes away which pretty much rules out any wheel or tire balance issues. The vibration is slight but noticeable. I can feel it through the wheel and seat. I have not taken her to the dealership yet but wanted to see if anyone else has had a problem with vibration. I was thinking it has to be engine, trans or driveshaft vibration. Being a new Edge owner, I'm not yet sure if this is a common problem.
