  1. The stock system isn't bad a low levels. It's when you turn it above ambient levels that is starts to throttle bass and distort the fronts. THe DSP isn't the best system so it's limited. Adding a JBL MS-8 will change the car completely. Also upgrading the front soundstage with a nice 6.5" component set and center channel with the MS-8 will be a huge improvement. Even more so if you add a JL Stealthbox and a JL HD900/5 to amp everything.
  2. I'm waiting for delivery of my White 2012 sport. I want to get a sealant on asap but I will probably need to slightly correct the paint first. I use ONR for washing due to living in a condo and not easy to get a place to wash. What polish works well with the white platinum clear coat. I figure I would need some clay work and a single step polish to get a perfect finish. I want to seal it with opti coat as I use opti-seal now and have been for about 3 years. I have a flex 3401 da orbital and some autogeek pads in various colors. I am thinking possibly Meguires 105 might be all I need if the clear coat isn't nearly as hard as my BMW 650i. EDIT: haven't looked at detailing stuff in prob over a year and a half. Just some quick looking on the usual forums the new meg DA microfiber system looks awesome. Might look at going that route for my Flex.
  3. Did you by any chance get some measurements of the stock bi-halogen projectors when you had it open. Just wondering how much room is in there. You mentioned FX-r which if you think those will fit then the rx350bx should fit no problem. Also what wrap did you use on the chrome. I want to match the stock color as close as possible so I don't have to wrap the entire grill. I can't remember from looking in person. Would the gloss black 3M work well?
  4. So I have a feeling the TLs will be too big to fit inside without some serious fabrication to seal them back up. I am going to go in a different direction with some better projectors. Going with some clear lens RX350 bi-xenon after doing a lot of reading. They are smaller than the FX-rs and are extremely wide and can handle 55w easy. They are rare and $$$ but I'm going to do it right the first time. Hopefully I just need to fab a bracket to mount them to the stock mounting points and retain OEM adjustments and fully sealed.
  5. Emailed my sales rep and no VIN or DORA yet after 2 weeks.
  6. Will have to get some measurements when they get here and I can open them up. If the TLs won't fit cleanly then I might go with the smaller FXrs.
  7. If you really want to have an easy time setting up your aftermarket or even your stock speakers then look into the JBL MS-8. It's much more expensive but it does have an extremely easy auto EQ system with granular controls after that calibration. Some very long threads across the net with guys using this device for some incredible sound. They usually compair it with the even more expensive audison bit one which does not have an auto EQ so you need someone who is really good with installing these devices and tuning them properly.
  8. I bought the set from ebay. Going full on retro now. It's on like donkey kong. Hope these housings are big enough for a TL projectors with clear lenses.
  9. Awesome. Where can we order spare headlights. I want to work on the retrofit before I get my 2012. Found some more info on the stock projectors. They are actually really good halogen projectors if there is such a thing. I guess that is why we can get decent results from hid kits. Still want to do a true retrofit. Stock bi-halogen: 9012 AL BiHalogen Projector http://www.docteroptics.com/index.php?lang=en&p=3073 "Docter Optics, the world market leader in the production of aspheres and free-form lenses for automotive applications, was able to meet these challenging requirements by developing a completely new asphere with a surface consisting of extremely fine microcylinders. The individual microcylinders are what make it possible to shape the light and define its direction and strength with extraordinary precision."
  10. Also you mentioned E55 projectors. Did you take measurements of the stock halogen projectors when everything was apart? That would be awesome because we could find some nice clear lens (euro) projectors to retrofit for some really nice output. I bought a HID kit but ideally would like to do a retrofit with some nice projectors like the TL bi-xenons or S2K projectors. Don't really need bi-xenon down here though. Would be nice to retrofit some oem ballasts and D2S bulbs. Possibly these FX projectors that have been modded http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=101 Here are the TL projectors modded with clear lenses http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=125 With some pre-color shifted Phillips 85122+ D2s bulbs http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=148 I have done a retrofit with the E55 projectors from an Audi RS6 and they performed great but were big. I did mod them for some crazy cutoff color though
  11. Going based on the 2011 colors on the medium light stone interior the carpets for the 2012 will now be the same color as the Door trim upper/lower, Instrument Panel upper/lower, and the steering wheel. It looks like a darker grey color.
  12. I was trying to get my car ordered and on my way since they are slow. He didn't seem to know how to print it and I didn't want to wait for him to find out. I'm sure he could have done it if he asked someone else. I already had an x-plan invoice from another 2012 that was going to another dealer with the same options. I just don't remember it off the top of my head.
  13. The Sony system is really bad. The speakers are junk but the processing isn't that bad. The distortion is normal for these types of systems. As you turn up the volume the systems turns down the bass to protect the junk speakers. This is common across all manufacturers now though. Thats why devices like the RE-Q5 exists for aftermarket subs. I'm not much of an audiophile but the stock system is bad so I am upgrading it. I am doing a 5 channel setup with active front components. All the channels are being replaced with high quality Hybrid Audio Technology speakers. I am also adding a JBL MS-8 DSP to actively run the front components and auto EQ the car perfectly. I am adding a JL audio stealthbox which has a single 10W3v3-2 that replaces the thin ABS plactic sub box and 8" woofer. Powering everything will be a JL audio HD900/5 amp. The 4 channels will power 100W to the front tweeters and 100W to the mids. The 500W sub channel will go to the sub. I also get a JL audio XD400/4 amp for 150w bridged to the center channel and 74W to the rear fill speakers. I would only run front components and a sub unless you run an external DSP like the JBL MS-8. Then you can run a nice logic-7 setup and it sounds amazing.
  14. Not sure of the final price as they couldn't print x-plan invoice when ordering as it will come when the car comes. I was trying to get one that was ordered at a dealer far away so I had invoice for that with the same options. MSRP was ~$42,600 and after X-pin (around 2,600 discount) and the 1000 rebate for the 2012 Edge it came down to 38,900 plus tax/tag/title. I will know the final price in a few weeks when it gets here.
  15. I will be using mostly BP when I get my 2012 Sport delivered. It's mostly due to the locations I normally drive by. If I see a Chevron and close to needing a fill i will pick Chevron. Their additives seem to work well at not messing anything up. Like mentioned it's almost all the same gas with slight differences in detergents/additives.
  16. The ecoboost will drive nice because it has the torque if you are on boost. With little modification you can often get massive performance improvements from forced induction. Similar to the juicebox/vishnu devices for the BMW 335i. Can be removed easy when in for service etc. Wish the 3.5L ecoboost was available on the Sport. I ordered my 2012 Sport a week after you. Let me know when you get a VIN from your dealer so we can track our order status for people interested in ordering.
  17. Interested in this as well but for the 2012 which should be the same as the 11. I know the H&R springs will fit but need to know about the sway bar and strut tower bar.
  18. Yeah I tried to keep it semi stock looking but clean. Lowered with KW v3 coilovers and some spacers. Also added exhaust and tint but that was about it. Replacing this with the edge. Need to haul my paddleboards and golf clubs. Although the 650 trunk is huge and can fit 4 full golf bags. There is minimal room for back seat passengers. Plus it's got 70K and is a 06. Had it for 3 years with no major issues and was a great car. Front sensors are useless as it only activates when in reverse unless you actively hit the button.
  19. I did the same thing on my 650i and will be doing it on my white edge sport that is on order. The BMW lights were really delicate to take apart because of the sensors for auto leveling and adaptive HIDs and the angel eyes.
  20. Really nice for paddleboarding where you dont need to carry your keys in a dry bag in board shorts. A;so very handy when tailgating as the first drunk person back to the truck after the game can unlock the car and start the grill again. The sober driver is usually the last one to show up.
  21. I noticed the dealer added this on my my order I made today. Can anyone provide more info on what this is. It's not required where I am in FL but I don't know the specifics. I briefly looked and saw mention of a different cat for the exhaust system. I hope it doesn't affect performance in any way which I think it might if it reduces emissions. There is no state inspection here so I don't see a need for it. Why would they auto add this?
  22. I ordered mine today. 2012 Sport Nav Vista roof Driver entry Vision package illuminated door sills all weather floor matts No front plate Basically everything but the rear entertainment system. The 2012 order guide has the updates for the 2012 models. Led turn on new mirrors, new spoiler, 10 way power with lumbar for both front seats. I think there are a few other things not mentioned like the sound material in the pillars and possible hidden updates. The 2012 packages were changed around a little. Driver entry includes keyless fob start, power lift gate, perimeter alarm, and remote start now.
  23. I placed my order today with a deposit. I can't wait for it to come in. He said if all things align it might be 4 weeks but more likely around 6 weeks right now. Could take up to 12 if something is backed up. Anyways I ordered a 2012 Sport FWD in White. Options I picked are below: Vista roof Bliss Voice activated Nav Driver entry package (now includes remote start for 2012) All weather floor matts Illuminated door sills No front plate CA emissions (dealer added this which I think is a different cat) I already ordered the 5K 55w HID kit on this forum since I can't own a car without HIDs. Will be ordering the H&R spring kit soon since there is no coilover option yet that I have seen. I have KW V3 coilovers on my 6 series now and will really miss them. Other mods that will be coming will be tint on the front side windows to match the others and entire front windshield at 70%. I also need order a thule rack setup for my paddleboards. Might eventually add the modified hitch for carrying some tailgating stuff (have Dolphins season tickets).
  24. Everything I have seen is 3 months. You should be handed the loan terms before you sign anything and it should be stated in there (or the incentive terms). I am ordering a 2012 so no finance incentives. They also came back with 9% APR which is a joke! I think they were just trying to pull a fast one because I do have excellent income and credit. I am already pre-approved for 2.5% through PenFed and 2.75% through Alliant Credit Union.
