  1. I wish our Canadian neighbors well. But it would have been much better if the Edge and what followed would have taken place here. ( The good ole USA ) Ford must have their reasons. Larry Northern,Indiana
  2. We'll see how it resets in a couple months. Had it in the pole barn since late October ( stored for winter ) with the battery disconnected. Also suspended Sirius radio for 5 months. Larry Northern,Indiana
  3. This is the resetting procedure for 2013 Edge sel.. Seems a lot less complex as the 2011. Larry To ensure proper operation of the battery management system (BMS), any electrical devices that are added to the vehicle should not have their ground connection made directly at the negative battery post. A connection at the negative battery post can cause inaccurate measurements of the battery condition and potential incorrect system operation. Note: Electrical or electronic accessories or components added to the vehicle by the dealer or the owner may adversely affect battery performance and durability and may also affect the performance of other electrical systems in the vehicle. When a battery replacement is required, the battery should only be replaced with a Ford recommended replacement battery that matches the electrical requirements of the vehicle. When the battery is disconnected or a new battery installed, the automatic transmission must relearn its adaptive strategy. As a result of this, the transmission may shift firmly when first driven. This operation is considered normal and will fully update transmission operation to its optimum shift feel. If the battery has been disconnected or a new battery has been installed, the clock and the preset radio stations must be reset once the battery is reconnected. Note: Always dispose of automotive batteries in a responsible manner. Follow your local authorized standards for disposal. Call your local authorized recycling center to find out more about recycling automotive batteries. Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a computer, some control conditions are maintained by power from the battery. When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the engine must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and performance. To begin this process: 1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake. 2. Put the gearshift in P (Park), turn off all accessories and start the engine. 3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. 4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. 5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. 6. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process. • The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles (16 km) or more to relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy.
  4. I not sure about amsoil specs. and warranty. But I was told to use a motorcraft filter so engine problems can't be blamed for using a non ford filter. I use motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend oil and motorcraft filter as ford calls for. I figure if the engine takes a dump, should be much less arguing to get it replaced. Also keep receipts and good records of maintenance. Larry Northern,In
  5. I was told there is a weep hole from the water pump behind the alternator, should be able to notice leakage there before it leaks internally. Don't know for sure. Larry Northern,In
  6. Had ours one year, no problems. Can't keep it clean. Shows dirt tooooo much especially the lift gate. Have it stored for winter.. 2013 sel 102a package. Ruby red Larry Northern,In.

    So much salt!!!

Back in late October I made the decision to drive my truck and park the Edge in the pole barn. The Edge is Ruby red and shows every spec of dirt. Kind of regret getting a dark color. The other reason, the edge is newer than the truck so makes sense to keep it out of the salt. I run the truck through a car wash every other week. The kind that washes the underside too. Got 76 Inches of the white stuff so far this winter. Larry Northern, In.
  9. Another comment/question about brake booster failure/replacement. I took my letter from ford to 2 dealerships to ask why ford would say there will be one replacement only. Since my car still has the 3 year bumper to bumper and I plan on buying the premium ESP plan later on. I asked what would happen if the booster would happen to fail again if my car is under warranty. Both service managers told me it's on me. This doesn't seem kosher since that part is covered under the bumper to bumper. Hope someone can shed some light on this subject. Thanks Larry
  10. akirby, Sorry you feel I was out of line. You're right, no one is holding a gun to my head. Larry
  11. Todd, Thanks. I thought maybe you might know why Ford would take a chance of someone being injured or killed because of a brake problem. I know my letter states the ( fundamental braking system remains functional ) Like ford is telling me there is nothing to be concerned about. Ford states a small tear in the booster diaphragm could develop which could get bigger if the car isn't serviced. I'm 70 years young and have had brake boosters go bad. On these cars the brake pedal went to the floor and had to pump the pedal to get stopped. No fluid leak either. I grant you these were older vehicles and things may have changed over the years. Question for you. How does ford know the booster won't fail completely at one hard braking???? Now I have to remember to tell anyone who drives my car to watch out for a braking problem. I've owned fords for many years and always had high respect for them but now I'm not so sure. I know it would cost ford quite a bit but they should go ahead and replace the boosters on the problem cars and be done with it and put peoples minds at ease. Larry
  12. Hi All, Received a letter from Ford, there may be a problem with the power brake boosters on some 2010 thru 2013 Ford Edges. The letter states, a small tear could develop in the diaphragm causing braking problems. Fords Idea of fixing the problem is to extend the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles, for this part. If the booster fails, Ford will replace it free of charge. The letter I received plays the problem down , saying a spongy or the pedal effort will increase but the fundamental braking system remains functional. Ford is calling this problem a ( Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 ) instead of having a recall. Now my question for Todd. Is Ford waiting for a accident to happen where damage or worse an injury or death before Ford does a recall. Below is the pdf for the problem. http://allstatetrucks.com/images/Recalls/R13N02%202010%20thru%202013%20Edge%20and%20MKX.pdf Thank you Larry Northern,In 2013 Edge SEL

  15. $24,000 is a good deal. Hope it gives you many miles of trouble free service. I got the SEL with the 101A package because the sel has dual heat/air, have to make the better half happy!! I think the gas tank should be bigger too. At least 25 gal. I'm getting decent mpg but still could use more gas. We took a 2500 mile trip from northern, Indiana through the Cumberland and Smokey Mountains to Pensacola Florida and back home. Averaged 26.3 mpg Larry Northern,In
  16. Thank you for your service!!!!!!!!!! Come back safe and sound.... Moving to Korea?????? Larry Northern,In

  19. The 2014 base SEL price is not far off of the 2013 type build your Ford Edge in your browser Larry Northern,In New 2013 SEL Out the Door cost , $27,500.00 purchased Feb.2013
  20. My thought is the tranny is low on fluid. I have a 2013 low mileage Edge so the fluid should be a lighter color than your 09 with 90,000 miles. I can see my fluid level very easily. Just my 2 cents. Larry Northern,In.
  21. Hi All, Just got done looking at Ford.com build and price your 2014 Ford Edge. The 3.5 V6 is still the standard engine. Ford still offers the 2.0 ecoboost as a option plus the 3.7 V6 in the Sport model. Larry Northern,Indiana
  22. I would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. Get the Family together and have a GREAT time. Larry Northern,In
  23. From what I read on trips in our Edge's the V6's are pulling better MPG's than the 4 bangers. This is opposite of fords advertiseing. As I said in my post ( above ) I averaged 26.3 for the 2500 mile trip which was mostly two lane roads plus mountains Larry Northern,Indiana For everyone's reference.
  24. Your price is inline with what this model is selling for. I bought the same car this past Feb. except mine is Ruby Red for $27,500.00 Out the door but I got my Son's employee discount.
  25. I didn't think of using my Edge in my pics. Great idea though. Larry
