  1. I asked for some tire socks from AutoSock.com for Christmas. Anyone tried these before? From the reviews I read it sounds like they work well but wear out pretty quickly. Speeds top out at 30 MPH so they'll only be used in heavy snow conditions. So far the winter in MD has been pretty mild. My FWD handled fine in the snow last year -- and we got a ton. Figures. But I needed something to put on my Christmas list so I figured what the heck.
  2. Has anyone used tire socks before? I have a FWD and put some on my Christmas list, hopefully I get them but the winter in Md has been mild so far.
  3. 7-10K miles between oil changes...has to be synthetic right? I'm getting close to 8K since me last change. Car says oil life is still at 20%. Taking it in next weekend.
  4. Congrats. I have a 2013 SEL FWD myself and love it. I was thinking of getting new wheels but my factory wheels have grown on me, especially when they're shiny and cleaned up.
  5. Anyone else having issues with AC becoming heat around 73-74 degrees? Even when I have heat or defrost on, it gets really cool around those temperatures too.
  6. I'm about to hit 10K and I still agree with the post I made in May. Fun to drive, very smooth and quiet ride. I've been using the Sport shift more often and driving it like a manual, which is pretty fun.
  7. Sounds like you may want to add some more fluid and recheck. If it looks too high when you check again, just drain some fluid out. I did this all the time on my Mariner, haven't on the Edge yet, and it was pretty easy to read the fluid level so you may be overthinking it.
  8. We had a miserable winter here in MD and I got my FWD Edge in December, just in time for the onslaught. It handled fine. Of course it's not as sure footed as an AWD vehicle but it did the job. Never had an issue. Next winter I might get some tire socks just to get some better traction but I think as long as your tires are in good shape you won't have any problems as long as you drive carefully. The biggest thing was making sure to shovel the car out better. Before, when I had an AWD Mariner, I would just drive right through it. The Edge might be able to do some of that but with FWD, I figured I'd just do a better job shoveling.
  9. I've had my 2013 FWD SEL for 5 months. Love the ride and the features. Still discovering some of them. The low gears can be cumbersome, pulling away from stop signs, lights, etc...you really have to gun it to get it to respond. The MPG is solid for an SUV this size. Recently got 450 mi to the tank on a road trip to the beach, and I sat in traffic for an hour. Lots of cargo space and the backseat legroom is SPACIOUS. I wish airplanes had that much legroom. The car overall is a bit overpriced I feel like, but I am loving it so far.
  10. The biggest slight against the 2014 Edge is that the 2015 Edges have a new body style and will be released later this year.
  11. This will be something I will do at 50K as well. I was doing drain and fills on my '05 Mariner and they were easy enough, hopefully it will be as easy on the '13 Edge.
  12. Do you mean PTU by any chance? If so your 2WD won't have one. You probably know that already but I just wanted to make sure.
  13. I have a 2013 SEL with leather seats, MFT, 18 inch wheels. I've had it 5 months and still loving it. The engine is powerful and the ride is smooth and quiet. Haven't had any issues with MFT aside from hitting a button twice when once should have done it. Sync is great once you know your way around the system. Like that it's bigger than compact SUV's without feeling gigantic on the road or while parking. Some cons: the turn signals are funky and I feel like some of the materials are cheap. I've nicked up some of the interior while cleaning the car with a vacuum brush, as I've done on all the cars I've ever owned and never had a single problem doing it. The hood is very thin and the tailgate is heavy and seems to not close all the way frequently. They can also get expensive but I feel like you get a lot for your money, especially with the engine and ride. Other suv's I considered before buying were the Rogue and CRV.
  14. Consumer Reports? Really? What is this, 1982? They're obsolete. Go to Edmunds or several other car-specific sites for auto reviews.
  15. I give MFT a B+ Sometimes it takes 2 presses when one should suffice but while driving you should really use Sync and the steering wheel controls as much as possible. I do wonder how it will hold up over the long hail but that is kind of why the touchscreen can be frustrating because it's built for longtime use. IMO, it's certainly not enough of a negative to dissuade me from buying a Ford vehicle. It's no better or worse than an iPhone when it comes to controls.
  16. Not looking to make much off them...as long as shipping is paid for since I bet it'd be around $15 to ship.
  17. Haha, good to know I'm not the only one who did the same thing -- tapped a car behind me (even with rear camera and sensors) and now there's an imprint of the other car's license plate bolt in my lower rear bumper. Looks like the bumper can be found on-line for around $100. I may have to do this in the future.
  18. I've got a pair of the factory trim strips that I removed when I added the roof rails if anyone wants them.
  19. So installed the OEM roof rails yesterday. Everything went ok until....I ran out of the longer screws. Apparently the directions tell you to remove the middle brackets when you don't need to and I replaced one bracket with the longer screw that comes with the rails. I should have re-used the shorter screw, and actually, I should have never even removed the middle bracket since there is no need to, and. I realized this when I installed the second rail. So I didn't realize I was short a screw until the very end. I tried to remove the snap on end covers to remove the middle bracket to get the longer screw but those snap on end covers don't seem to come off. So now I am short a screw. Tried finding one at hardware store but couldn't find a match. Called my local ford dealer and he said he could locate one but it will take a few days. What a pain in the ass. Stupid directions.
  20. Mine just came in the mail yesterday from Levittstown Ford. Going to install this weekend.
  21. Bumpy ride? Loud cabin noise? Did they actually drive the car? Edmunds said it had s smooth ride, vault like cabin, good engine selection, etc. The MFT can be cumbersome, the buttons and controls don't always work the first time you press them but if that's the biggest complaint, I'll take it. I've never owned a foreign car, although my wife prefers them and I've got no bias against them I've just always leaned toward American jars, especially Fords/Mercury.
  22. Does have a touch up paint or wax stick for filling in scratches and dings on their non-painted plastic parts? It's pretty small, don't want to put it into a shop. When the salt is cleaned off the bumper I can post a pic.
  23. Wow that is tight. Wish that had been out when I bought my Edge, I may have splurged to get into that.
  24. So I was parallel parking over the weekend and even with the rear camera and the sensors I tapped another car which imprinted my lower rear bumper with the other car's license plate frame screw. The car has under 2K miles on it so I am kicking myself for getting a ding so soon. Does anyone know how to repair a ding on the lower rear bumper? Is there some kind of wax stick that I can use to fill in the imprint? Maybe some of that "As Seen on TV" plastic cleaner will fill in the ding a bit. Any ideas?
  25. I had a little bit of trouble with this too but figured it out. You have to make sure the pictures are the right size. I cropped the image I wanted to use and saved it as a new file. Then put it on the flash drive and uploaded it to Sync. That worked for me. You might want to try changing the image quality if you can, to get the file size down.
