  1. Ford did recently come out with a customer satisfaction program for the 1.5L in some vehicles (not the edge) for the same type of problem.  Eventually if a CSP would come out for the 2.0 in the Edge owner's would be eligible for reimbursement.  There is some hope based on the CSP for the 1.5L.  Cross your fingers, keep poking the bear perhaps, etc and maybe wishes will come true.

TSB means Ford is paying for it.  No need for an extended warranty.

That isn't what TSB means.  TSB's are only covered under warranty if the vehicle is under some sort of manufacturer warranty whether it be bumper to bumper or extended.  If the vehicle isn't under warranty, a TSB is paid for by the consumer.  A TSB is not a recall or customer service satisfaction bulletin.

  3. 9 times out of 10, multiple unrelated faults like that are a voltage issue.  Even if the battery terminals look good, clean them anyway.  If it still does it, swap out the battery.  You don't have to install a Motorcraft battery. I have a battery from O'Reilly Auto in my 2016.  If you have a friend that has a comparable battery in their vehicle and they are willing, try sticking theirs in your car for a test.

  4. Both heat and cooling run the fan.  There are no heat mats in the seat.  It is a TED unit.

What is a Ted in a heated seat?

The thermal electric device (TED) is a heat exchanger that has a function to heat or cool the air flow from the climate-controlled seat blower motor. By changing the direction of the current from the power supply, the device takes or gives heat and adjusts the heat exchange process depending on voltage.

  5. It could be the radio itself.  Not having checked for DTCs yet is an issue.  There could be a DTC waiting that tells you exactly what is bad rather than just throwing the parts cannon at it.  I had access to the manual last week.  It just showed that the antenna has a separate AM/FM versus Sirius/GPS antenna (both contained in the sharkfin).  The antenna has a power wire running to it from the ACM.  It didn't show any other parts other than a splitter for the GPS/Sirius signal.  It could be the antenna or it could be the ACM.  The FM radio in the ACM itself could be bad.  BTW the 14D212 part you mentioned....14D212 is the base part # for APIMs, nothing to do with radio reception.

Ok I am new here and I have an explorer that I am trying to do this mod too, but the cluster doesn’t fit back and allow any bolts to line up and secure. Even the trim doesn’t fit flush but it sticking out. I think the heat sink is the issue. 2017 Explorer FPIU.

For the Explorer a plastic brace has to be cut out and the PLATINUM cluster lens and PLATINUM cluster bezel has to be used.

  7. I wish I had access to the service manual but I don't otherwise I would pull some info for you.  I did do a parts lookup and the shark fin looks to have am/fm and satellite in it and also there is a part they call an isolator as part of the antenna system as well.  I would guess its one of those parts or the ACM itself may be bad.  Has the vehicle been read for codes?  The ACM has the capability to throw codes for antenna issues.

More diagnostic info. I upgraded Sync to the latest 3.4.22XX something. No change. I went into Sync 3 diagnostics (hold track skip on steering wheel and track skip on the center console), then it beeps and goes into diagnostic mode running a speaker test. I selected the AHU diagnostic and pulled up radio signal strength.

On a particular station (94.9) I get a signal strength of 35 and the head unit locks in on the HD portion. This is the only station that locks in HD.

On another station (96.5) I get a signal strength of 1 and is obviously quite fuzzy and no chance of locking on the HD signal.

I would suggest the antenna must be connected or I wouldn't get the one channel locked in ok? If I drive around, this station won't stay locked and easily drops, but I can't enter diags when driving.

Opinions? Bad head unit? Is there an antenna amplifier somewhere that might be to blame? It's hard to imagine that a passive antenna could fail in some weird way. Water/corrosion in the shark fin?

In reviewing the installation directions, there is no separate FM radio connection cable, the only separate antenna connection is for the GPS hockey puck thing. My GPS is working. I'm assuming that the antenna signal must be coming in on the giant multi-pin connector on the back of the APIM.

I just compared the signal levels with my '16 Ford Focus.  I am getting 45 for a signal strength on 94.9 AND the 96.5. I get above 40 pretty much across the board on a Focus, but it seems the unit in the Edge can't seem to pull a signal other than one channel. Antenna or head unit issue?  I'd guess the APIM that is bolted onto the screen display, so maybe just a new APIM or new antenna.  Looking at photos online, there are at least two cables attached to the antenna, so I'd guess this is an amplified unit. Maybe the amp crapped out; but, where is it?

    Looking at ebay, I see:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/373773058941

Where is this part?  I'm going to guess near the antenna in the roof?

The APIM has nothing to do with the quality of your radio reception.  Did you read my previous post?

  9. The antenna is connected the ACM (CD Player) and you shouldn't have need to remove that to install SYNC3 so doubt you messed with the antenna connection unless wiring harnesses got pulled on or something like that.  The ACM will throw a code if the antenna is bad or not connected.  Have you had it read for DTCs?

I removed the ACM this afternoon. Not a bad job at all.  Sending it off to Collegeville PA tomorrow for their fix. I put stuff back together so I have heater controls. It drives fine & and everything seems to work, well almost everything: The only issue I have now is I have a parking brake malfunction on the dash & the chime that goes along with that; the parking brake doesn't work. I tried cycling the power on & off a few times, without actually starting & the actually starting, but no joy.  I also disconnected the battery for a couple minutes but that didn't work either.

    Any ideas?

Did you plug the electrical connector back in for the switch?

Well here I am nearly 3 weeks with no progress yet. Does anyone know, if I pull my existing module & send it out, can the car be driven without the module for the four or five days until it comes back & I reinstall it?

Yes you can drive it with out an acm. How much is it going to cost to have it repaired?  Contact me if you want as I can track down and program the correct module for you as it appears you can’t find one yourself.

  12. I don't have an answer for you but I do have a suggestion as far as the forum goes.  You revived an almost 12 year old post that has "solved" in the title.  Probably not going to get many looks plus you are talking about a noise in the engine area, the original post was the back of the vehicle and a 2009 model year is completely different than a 2021.  They didn't even a have a 4 cylinder ecoboost in 2009.  I would suggest starting a new post, probably going to get more views an answers.
