  1. This is the after market wheel I bought last month for winter use. It's an 18" alloy wheel. OEM wheels were 20".
  2. I haven't had Sync 3 hang, but I've had to restart Sync 3 a few times because of issues with Android Auto. You can reboot Sync 3 without turning off the car by pressing the Seek next button (right arrow) while holding down the power button in the middle of the big volume knob. That's a little less disruptive than having to pull over and turn the car off.
  3. Mine used to crash consistently after about a half hour or so of driving. Sometimes it would wait a little longer until I was about 5 minutes away from my destination if I was using Google Maps to navigate (at least it seemed that way). Lately, it hasn't been crashing as much. There have been a couple of AA updates on my phone, so it's possible that one of those updates made it a bit more stable. I still find it to be a bit finicky though. Every now and then, AA won't start when I connect the phone. When that happens I'll need to either reboot the phone or reset Sync to get it to work again. Sometimes it will let me control Spotify over Bluetooth but it will play the music through the phone speaker. That happens about once every 20 or so times I use Spotify that way. I'm using a OnePlus 3T with Android Nougat. I have a short 6" USB cable that fits between the USB jack in the little Sync cubby hole in the console and the phone.
  4. The part number I was given for Ford rims for winter use was FT4Z-1007-BWSP. They're the same 18" rims that come with the Edge SE. I'm not sure if they're the same ones that are shown on the 2018 Ford Edge that's on the Ford web site now. I thought the Ford rims were a bit pricey as well (I was quoted $312 each in August) and ended up going with an after market rim that I thought looked good on the car and were still good for winter use. Total cost was $2020 CAD including tires, TPMS, mount and balance and shipping. Someone else mentioned they got a winter tire package from Ford for about $1000. The tires I bought were that much without the rims, but for me, winter tires is not something I like to cut corners on.
  5. This is true. Unless Ford plans to start releasing map updates on a semi-regular basis for Sync 3 navigation, it's really not worth having. Seeing how inaccurate the maps are in parts of the city I live in makes me not trust the built in navigation when I'm driving in cities I'm less familiar with.
  6. I called a local Ford dealer here and they wanted $312 per wheel for those 18" oem rims. That didn't include tires or TPMS.
  7. I downsized for my Titanium from 245/50R20 to 245/60R18. Total cost for new alloy wheels, tires, TPMS sensors and tax was about $2000 Canadian dollars. Downsizing was definitely a less expensive option and I think better for the potholes I'll probably end up driving over as well.
  8. I have 20" wheels on my 2016 Edge Titanium and just bought 18" Fast Switch alloy wheels with Michelin Lattitude X-Ice XI2 winter tires. 245/60R18 is almost the exact same diameter as 245/50R20. The wheels have the same centre bore size as the hub (63.4mm), so no hub centric rings were needed. I ordered them last week and they were delivered, mounted and balanced with TPMS sensors on Monday. I put them on just to make sure they fit (they fit perfectly) and then put the 20's back on until there's some sign of snow. I think 17" wheels would be a bit too small.
  9. I have adaptive steering on my 2016 Edge Titanium. I'm not sure if it's any different from adaptive steering on the sport. I did have the steering wheel replaced due to an adaptive steering fault message that kept coming up, but haven't experienced any twitchiness while driving either before or after the wheel was replaced.
  10. Vehicle says "SYNC 3, Software Version: 2.2 Build 17011_PRODUCT". Maps are "NA 1 14".
  11. I just checked the Ford owner site and it says I updated to Sync3 v2.3 on May 6, 2017. I think Ford's site might be a bit confused unless they've figured out some magical way to go back in time and change the version I updated to. That was when I updated to v2.2.
  12. The maps on my Sync 3 are at least 3 years out of date in my area. Android Auto usually crashes after about a half hour, so I can't rely on Google Maps or Waze for any trip that takes longer than that. I can get AA working again by rebooting Sync 3 while driving or just turning the car off and on if I'm parked. I have a portable Garmin GPS for when I really need navigation which fortunately is not very often. I didn't actually want to buy navigation with the Edge, but it was bundled with the vista roof. I wanted a sun roof, so I had to buy navigation. I think most OEM maps in cars are a waste of money.
  13. I parked my Edge Titanium with Sync, navigation and Ford's perimeter alarm system for about three and a half weeks in June while on vacation and came home to a dead battery. To be fair, I probably made a couple short trips before I left so the battery might not have been quite fully charged. By short, I mean 5 to 10 minute drive, park, 5 to 10 minute drive, park again, then 10 minutes to home and park for 3.5 weeks. This was a problem for me with my previous vehicle as well, so I keep one of those Li-Ion battery boosters in the center console. It's probably not the best solution, but at least it only takes a minute or two to get the car started again when the battery is dead. It actually took me longer to get the door open using the key than it did to get the car started after I got in.
  14. The Takata airbag recall affects over 100 million airbag inflators worldwide (some vehicles have multiple airbags affected by the recall) affecting 19 different car manufacturers. Takata filed for bankruptcy a couple months ago in Japan and USA because of all the recalls and associated lawsuits. Takata's largest competitor, Key Safefy Systems, bought Takata's assets is continuing to manufacture inflators for the recalls. Apparently there are other inflator manufacturers getting involved now as well to help speed things up, but it's going to take a while to get all those airbags replaced. If you Google "Takata airbag recall" you should find a lot more detail including areas that are being prioritized for replacement airbag inflators (the problem is worse in high humidity / high temperature conditions). This isn't just a Ford problem.
  15. I've had similar issues with the maps in Sync 3. There's a bridge near me that Sync 3 simply refuses to navigate over no matter which routing option I use. It's a toll bridge but it doesn't matter if I have tolls enabled or disabled in the map options, it won't route over the bridge until I'm actually on the bridge. Most of the routes that avoid that bridge would add about a half hour to my trip. I'd rather just pay the toll. I also get occasional warnings that the map is incomplete for the area I'm in. Admittedly, those warnings tend to come up in more rural areas, but I haven't noticed any missing roads on the map in those areas. There are missing streets in the city though and i don't get any incomplete map warnings there. When I drive onto one of the missing streets, it will just say "off route" and won't give directions until I'm back on a street that's on the map. Based on the streets that are missing, I think the Sync 3 maps are about two to three years old. Also, speed limits are wrong on the maps. They changed limits for quite a few highways around here about three years ago and the Sync 3 maps still show the old speed limits. I've noticed enough issues that I don't think I'd want to rely on Sync 3 maps if I were planning to be driving in an unfamiliar city or area. It's pretty much useless at giving a semi-accurate ETA. I'm sure it would eventually get me to my destination, but I'm not so sure I'd be driving a very direct route. Let's just say I won't be getting rid of my trusty old Garmin GPS. I've used that thing all over Canada and US and quite a few countries in Europe and it's never failed me. I get updates for it 3 or 4 times a year for the life of the GPS (Europe maps were an extra $120 CAD or so, but now that I've paid for them, they update for free now too). I don't think updates for our Sync 3 maps will be free or anywhere near as often. Google Maps and Waze are both good alternatives and are much more up to date although I occasionally have to reboot Sync 3 when Android Auto stops working. Waze doesn't show speed limits or lane guides, but it seems to be a bit better at routing around traffic issues. It would be nice if the Android based maps could be shown on the home screen like the Sync 3 maps, but they're full screen only.
  16. Waze works with Android Auto... for a while. Usually after about 30 minutes or so, AA will just stop working and it will go back to the built in Sync 3 display. The next time I start the car, AA will start working again. I haven't tried rebooting Sync 3 while driving yet, but that would probably be enough to get AA and Waze running again.
  17. I understand that it's always on when it's enabled, I just notice it most when I'm parking. I just think that there's a small risk of hitting something if you're maneuvering into a tight parking spot when the adaptive steering fails and you suddenly find yourself back in normal steering mode. I often don't have the luxury of finding a big open parking spot with no obstacles to avoid, so there's usually not much room for error.
  18. Before my wheel was replaced, I set the steering to normal mode and didn't use the adaptive mode. I'm not sure if it made a big difference, but I didn't want the steering sensitivity to change if the fault showed up while I was turning. I found the difference between the two modes to be most noticeable at slower speeds, especially while parking.
  19. I was told it would take about three weeks when the steering wheel was ordered on May 16. It arrived on July 6, so it was more like 7 weeks. I hope you don't have to wait that long. Is the dealer offering to repair the wheel since they had supposedly "fixed" the power steering? I haven't had any issues since the steering wheel was replaced.
  20. I played around with it a bit more last night. It seems I was confusing it by saying BC or British Columbia after the city (the province is BC). It still has a bit of trouble guessing where the house number ends and the street name (number) starts, but at least it gives me a list of options on the screen.
  21. I was using Google Maps through Android Auto yesterday when AA decided to just crash on my phone about 5 km before our destination. That was the first time I tried using Google Maps instead of the built in map. Of course, it was the last 2 or 3 km where I needed the map. No problem, I thought, I'll just use voice command to enter the address into the SYNC map. The address was similar to 12345 98 St (different numbers, same format). I couldn't get the GPS to recognize that as an address. I tried saying it several different ways, but nothing seemed to work. I eventually pulled over and typed in the address. Does anyone know what would be the correct way to say an address like that so that the SYNC navigation would recognize it as an address? Next time, I'll make sure the address is saved as a favourite before I leave, but I'm still curious if there's a correct way to say the address.
  22. I definitely spoke too soon. When I drove this afternoon, the fault was back.
  23. I was getting the adaptive steering fault intermittently at first. It started when the odometer was at about 5600 km. Around the end of May I took it into Ford and they said they'd have to order a replacement part, no ETA. It didn't appear to be affecting steering, so I didn't have to leave the vehicle at the shop. I think adaptive steering was just getting disabled, so normal steering mode was active instead. The warning got progressively more frequent until it would show up as soon as I started the vehicle every single time. Then I was out of town for a little over three weeks and came home to a dead battery. Since then, I have not had the warning once and adaptive steering seems to be working. I'm still waiting for the replacement part which has apparently now been shipped. I'm hoping they still replace it since I don't think a dead battery is a real solution.
  24. My 2016 had the airbag module replaced by the dealer before I took delivery a couple months ago. I bought it in April and took delivery in May. I don't see any issues with trim, but the horn doesn't work. I also started getting an adaptive steering fault not long after I took delivery too. I'm still waiting on a replacement part to fix the adaptive steering issue. The dealer that ordered the part said they'll fix the horn when the replacement part arrives. Too add to the fun, I was out of town for a few weeks and the battery was dead when I got back. I think I struggled more to figure out how to open the door with the key than I did getting the car started. The adaptive steering fault doesn't come up anymore, but now remote start doesn't work. I don't think the adaptive steering issue is related, but the horn issue might be due to sloppy airbag module replacement. I'm not 100% sure about that though. I'm hoping all of this can be resolved whenever the part comes in. As much as I like the Edge, I kind of miss simple vehicles.
  25. I was attaching a bike rack to the hitch receiver yesterday and the lift gate came down on me. I guess the motion of the socket wrench I used to tighten the bolt triggered the kick sensor. I heard the dinging when it started to close, but wasn't sure at the time why it was dinging. The lift gate touched my back and then opened back up. It just felt like somebody tapped me on the back. Having said that, I think it would be nice to be able to disable that feature. I usually can't get the lift gate to open or close by kicking anyway so I just end up looking like a fool dancing behind my car whenever I try to open it that way.
