  1. Back from the wheel shop - they look amazing. They did the inner barrels too - they'll be a lot easier to keep clean!
  2. The only pitfall I see thus far, is that the OE center cap no longer 'snaps' into place, as it was indexed off the chrome cap... I'll have to sort out some type of retainer or double-sided 3m tape to affix them in place....
  3. I pried the cap off with a small pry bar. The large glue areas were scraped with a razor blade, then the wheel will be sand blasted before being refinished. I'm only doing the one wheel to start - sort of a PROMO from my wheel company, as they've never done one either...
  4. In the process of having one of my 20" Limited wheels refinished. I had a damaged wheel off another vehicle, and was successful in removing the chrome cap. One of my customers is in the process currently of refinishing the wheel now - will post pics when completed. I've taken the route to have the wheel color matched to my Edge - White Platinum Tri-Coat Here is the wheel with the chrome cap removed:
  5. Here is my original post; http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/6593-2011-edge-sport-rust-spots-on-front-doors/
  6. This is due to the door shell being painted prior to the inner mechanisms being installed. Small metal shavings from the self tapping screws used fall inside the door skin and become stuck at the lower seam. I have a previous post regarding this same issue. I purchased a product called 'IronX' and sprayed it in the doors. After agitating the solution with an old toothbrush in the cracks and crevices it rinsed clean.
  7. id like to see pics too - i'd thought about having it dyed to match...
  8. Is yours hard plastic? On my 3.5L the engine cover is a foam type rubber (i assume to help with noise and dampening?)
  9. apparently Ford will have an ecoboost option accross all platforms by 2014. Hopefully they can offer an ecoboost Edge w. AWD. (maybe they will even offer the ecoboost V6 in the SHO)
  10. I assume it's w/o myFordTouch? Your cluster looks different than mine. I have the 2x LCD's to each side of the speedo.
  11. There's a thread on here somehwere regarding this issue. It's not actual rust - but rather small filings or shavings that result in the cutting of threads into the door when installing the accessories (speakers etc.) after the door has been painted at the factory. Look into a product called 'Iron-X'. I sprayed the inner seam and gave it a scrub with an old toothbrush. It looks brand new now.
  12. Just heard from the dealer, apparently 'my' Edge is not affected by the TSB... ?
  13. As per my contacts at Ford, The iron deposits in the lower corners of the doors are a result of the installation of the door components after being painted; I'd guess that the doors are painted (inners at least) and then when the door components are installed, the screws 'cut' threads into the sheet metal and the subsequent filings drop into the lower of the door. I ordered some IronX from http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-iron-x-cleaner.html, sprayed into the holes, agitated with an old toothbrush, and then rinsed. It's been over 6 months now and no signs of contamination have returned. Seems to be pretty common. My dad's Edge showed the same problem, and we were able to clean it up as well. I definitely did not want my doors stripped and re-painted either.
  14. interested in 1x - Do you know approx shipping to 98226 WA?
  15. I used PPG / 3M products. These are the products we use at my shop; http://www.bapspaint.com/docs/psheets/NexaAutocolor/EnglishNR/N7_2.pdf
  16. All the good stuff is 'not available' to Canadians. (or anyone with an iphone for that matter too!)
  17. as long as you stick within a certain brand, their products should be cross-compatible. It becomes an issue when you paint with a Du-Pont, then clear with a BASF - They don't like that...
  18. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/6680-2011-sellmtd-painted-frontback-lipsside-rocker-panels/
  19. not worth it - its a PITA, and if you're not happy, you've got no-one to blame but yourself. It takes a lot of practice to be able to wrap a large panel without any flaws. Leave it to the professionals.
  20. I painted my chrome grille. it's actually a pretty basic, standard procedure. it was scuffed with a scotch brite pad, then cleaned and prepped with a specific product designed for painting plastics. two years so far, no issues. see my pics in my profile.
  21. Those are factory on the ecoboost I believe....
  22. same issue. I've found it works %100 of the time if it's in the right pocket (cell stays in the left pocket).
