I would like to explain how this works with us girls. This is how we shop: "Oooh, pretty!" Visualize finger pointing at the pretty thing. Given the list of vehicles in the original post none of us should be surprised that she chose the Edge. It is VERY pretty. However, having a dad that has always been there for me I am disappointed that her dad did not help her through this better. Putting herself in financial peril is not learning a lesson, it is serving a sentence. This is where dad could have taught her a life lesson. My dad taught me early on how to shop for a car and I have been successful with it ever since. I will admit that I spent more on my new Edge than I wanted to, I like to keep it real with car and house payments. I bargained with myself and gave up some extras that I really do not need every month, however I did not spend more than I have either way unlike this situation. And not to offend any gentlemen here that commented on how it may be after marriage, sharing money etc., remember that he has NOT put a ring on it yet and should not base his feelings for her on her money savvy or choices. If you do not live together or share finances there is no 'we' here unless you are supporting her. And if she is not getting what she wants out of life, meaning the committment, this Edge may be a little 'retail therapy' for herself or a way of trying to be independent. If I can't have this then I'll have that. Sometimes feelings overrule logical thinking.

If you get a 2013 the MFT should not be an issue for you. I am on my second Edge and I love it. Looks good, nice materials used for the interior and the cargo space cannot be beat. I have filled mine more than once with more than I thought would fit but it is not a beast to drive like large suv's are.

Hard to believe that any officer would give a ticket for an honest mistake unless something else is going on. I guess your dad and I got them on good days.

May I lighten the mood here by saying that FordGuru just cracked me up with this sentence. I was that teenage girl once lol. I was 17 and had my '79 TA. I pulled up somewhere that had windows and turned off the lights leaving on the parking lights (remember those days?) Forgot to turn the headlights back on and got pulled over. The cop was nice, let me off when he realized I felt really stupid, and batted my eyelashes at him. He should have tried that lol. I will say I am surprised the SE does not have auto turn on lights, I honestly thought all cars had that now. Good to know. Now lets all have a nice Friday and give Akirby a break.

Edge does have a five star crash rating in everything except a rollover. Seeing that back window shattered makes me wonder how safe third row seats are on the suv/cuv's that have them up against the back window. When I was shopping for my first Edge I looked at the Mazda CX-9 because of the third row and was not excited about where it was.

May depend on when you originally had it fixed. I had a 2008 and had the seal replaced spring of 2010. I was told that they had just improved the seal and it should not go bad again. Replacement seals previous to that were also bad and many people have had them replaced multiple times. Not sure how much truth there is to this, just what I was told.

So we should expect a flash drive and an SD card to do the update? And we can do it ourselves, do not have to go to the dealer?

If you are within warranty get it into the shop. Who knows what else is wrong. Not to discount your dad's talent but a paper trail would be a good thing.

Can you find a used one online at a dealer and use the vin?

I have my left side set for tach, fuel and temp. The fuel and temp fill and the tach goes to 1500 then down and that is it. Everything else stays put.

We have talked about the PTU leaks until we were blue in the face here. It was stated that the seal was replaced. Maybe not soon enough. I would guess that if enough fluid came out it would compromise the whole system.

I like the AR rims best because five spoke is my fave. I also like the black accent. Only thing I can see down the road is the black accent possibly fading or flaking etc.

I will try to remember to notice when I leave tonight.

LOL! I use the weather rope joke all of the time. Too funny. My 2008 Edge did not have a temp display, drove me nuts.

You need to get a black book value and stick to it. When I traded my 2008 the first one I went to tried to steal it from me. I was armed with a lot of info and just kept going until someone saw things my way. http://www.nadaguides.com/

I think if the car is under warranty the loaner vehicle perk is accross the board. Teh only time I had a problem was when I had a repair that was booked for only an hour and a half so I was refused, so if you take it in have a good long list for them.

I noticed a rattle on a day when it was very cold and snowing and icy. When the weather got better I opened and closed it and so far so good.
