  1. Check the inside/outside air button. If you run totally on inside air or recirculate, you will develop mildew inside of the evaporator. Use recirculate only to cool down and then change to outside air. To get rid of the smell, put the system on outside air and spray some Lysol disinfectant into the air intake in front of the windshield. It may take several shots of the Lysol to get rid of all of the smell. Good luck
  2. I got mine at the local Ford dealer-- it was about $47---
  3. Instead of replacing the plastic or painting it, there's a product available at your local auto parts store called "BLACK BACK"--- made for exactly what you did. If you want to replace the plastic, it will be mostley destroyed in removal. The new piece will come with all the necessary clips you need to do the new installation. Don't ask how I know----
  4. You can't confuse them with facts when their mind is made up----- BTDT--- and direct talk here is verbotten!
  5. I spent 35 years in the automotive service equipment business and have never seen a Fram filter failure. In the scheme of things, how long will using a "wix filter" extend the life of my engine? Do I really want a vehicle that is worn out with an engine that is capable of going another 100 K miles? If you want that, have at it--- I'd just as soon let it all wear out at the same rate and put whatever extra money it would take to use the most expensive stuff towards a new vehicle!
  6. Fram makes 3 grades of filter that fit the Edge--- Which one are you referring to, and why? There are no actual cases of engine failure due to Fram filters that have been presented by the owner of the vehicle. Only a bunch of anecdotes and old testing done by one individual who tested all the filters for everything but what they were designed to do.
  7. Seems like they want to have an engine that will run for 500,000 miles in a vehicle that will be nothing but used up and worn out in every other way at 200,000 miles. :shades: Now I'll probably have to hide after saying that!
  8. Are your dashboard lights turned up as bright as they go? If not, try that --- :happy feet:

Had enough time to make a phone call but not enough sense to put it in neutral and shut off the ignition???
  11. Depending on the deductible, your collision insurance may cover a good part of the wheel cost---

Perhaps a driver's safety course would help---

Be very very careful when you only have the e-brake to use. If you lock up the rear wheels, the vehicle will swap ends and you'll simply hit whatever you are aimed at with the back end!

Short range targets are easily destroyed because there is no remedial time. A target more than 5 seconds away should be easily handled if the driver learned how to handle emergencies. Less than 5 seconds if you respond immediately. You don't have time to make a cell phone call to 911 or any discussion with a passenger. 1. Brakes on 2.Transmission in neutral 3. Ignition off after stopping. In that order-- The engine will not destroy itself --it has a rev limiter.
  15. >>tried to adjust it myself and got the feeling that bolt had been either set with Loctite or was partially stripped to begin with. My adjustment didn't work. I brought it back to Ford. They tried with no success either. << I certainly hope that you didn't let them off the hook on that one-- Their body shop should be able to do the fix!
  16. The musty smell is from no running the A/C on outside air. Running on recirculate will cause lots of mildew build-up on the evaporator and give you that great smell you have. The automatic Temperature Control System will handle that for you as long as you leave the system in Auto. On the standard system, take the temperature control off the re-circulate position after the vehicle cools down or heats up. FYI .

My experience with them has been just the opposite-- I called them to cancel. I was paid up for a year. They gave me an immediate refund of slightly more then $90--- I never ever said I was going to lite -up a Sirius unit --- I did tell them that my receiver was dead and off the air. That may have made the difference!
  18. For me, that's a DIY 10 minute fix. While it may well be a warranty problem, I just don't see me wasting my time taking it to the dealer unless I have a whole laundry list of things for him to do! :happy feet: Bring it by--- I'll have you fixed in 10 minutes!
  19. If I were putting more than 20K miles/year on the vehicle, I'd probably consider one-- right now, my annual mileage is good for 2 oil changes. The valve would be convenient, but hardly worth the almost $30 cost when you figure in shipping charges and/or tax.
  20. You need an extension---- http://www.hitchesforless.com/electrical_connectors.htm Look on this page and pick one out, or go to your nearest trailer dealer and get one.
  21. The "OIL WARS" are a very hot topic in every forum for every motor vehicle. They will never be won by any one particular oil or filter. I spent 35 years in the technical part of the automotive business and another 13 years dealing with small 2 & 4 Stroke engines. The only engine failures I have seen have been triggered by lack of oil, not brand. As long as you are using a lubricant that meets or exceeds OEM specs, there should be no problems. The same goes for filters.
  22. I am mainly using the OEM oils and filters just to decrease the risk of giving Ford room to wiggle out of their warranty. Now I know someone could say just take it to the dealer and have them change the oil and that would guarantee that if anything went wrong then its 100% on them. Which is true, but our dealer houses employees untrustworthy and I would like to keep the Edge running past the warranty. Some oils are now claiming to protect up to "300,000 miles guaranteed" which is longer than my 100,000 extended warranty which I bought. So wether they will back it up is to be determined by whomever uses their product. Hope my explanation sheds some light on why, at least concerning why I, considered using different products. The Magnuson/Moss Act6 of 1975 protects the consumer from a manufacturer requiring that only their brand of product be used when doing normal maintainance. They can require the replacement product to meet minimum specs., so any oil that meets the Ford specs for your vehicle and any oil filter also, will be OK. Conoco does package the Motorcraft oil, and it is very reasonably priced at Wallyworld--- Any name brand filter should also work as long as it is specified for your engine. I find it more convenient to change my own oil. That guarantees me that it is really changed and done properly! I log it and keep the receipts. That's all that's necessary for proof of maintainance for warranty. Have the maintainance done at any shop that you feel comfortable with and Ford should honor your warranty.
  23. >>Do us all a favor and go buy a Hyundai. << Well, I happen to have one of those also, and the closest dealer to me was the worst dealer I have ever done business with-- They broke more than they fixed-- so, they get bought out by the largest Lexus/Toyota Dealer in the area-- Guess what? They are no better at repairing simple stuff than before, and their labor rate is right at $100/hr-----
  24. Hey Gary---- All vehicles breakdown--- sooner or later--- in your case, I think that the dealer should at least have a loaner vehicle of some type or pay for a rental. Check your insurance policy--- you may have rental car allowance that you paid for. This could be worse--- In this case, being worse would have it happening to me!
