  1. Hello all. I've been away for a while. Hope all is well. Got into the Edge today. Drove off, opened the window (door) and realized the front Vista Roof shade was flapping all crazy. Opened the roof. The glass retracted normally. The shade slid to the rear but did not roll up. It was hanging down 2 Feet! Closed and opened the vista again. Same issue. The shade is loose and won't roll up and the sides have pulled out. The rear shade works fine. Any ideas. Searched for this topic and came up dry. Any help is appreciated. Just got it back from the dealer. Threw codes and was warrantied for replacement of cam phasers. What next!! Thanks.
  2. Thanks to all of you who replied with compassion and respect concerning the loss of our beloved "Buffy". God bless you and keep you all.
  3. This was my baby. She was 11 y.o. On 01-25-10 we had to put her down. She had a tumor on her heart which was causing Congestive Heart Failure. She seemed fine on Friday. Over three days she went south and seemed to be having trouble breathing. The vet said her lungs were filling up with fluid and was causing the difficulty breathing. Not treatment or options. She went peacefully in the arms of those who loved her. I've been married 18 years with no kids. She was our baby. Today was hard, the house is so quiet without hearing the click-clack of her nails on the hardwood floor. My tears are still flowing. She will be missed by me and her "Mommy" who is hurting just as bad as I am. Rest In Peace my baby.
  4. She goes wherever we go! Whether it's in my wife's Edge or my truck.
  5. Sounds like it'd time for a brake job.
  6. The engines are ran at the factory with "Break-In Oil" to set the internal components and prevent scarring/galling of the internals. I do a first change at 500 miles. Always have, may not be needed but it is habit. I then do a change every 3000. As long as you use the Ford recommended oil, I see no need to pay extra for a full synthetic. Some say they improve H.P., heat loss and friction coefficients. May be essential in a high compression race engine but all my "Normal" daily drivers have been fine with the OEM oil, as long as the changes are done as scheduled.
  7. I also received the letter for my wife's 2009 Edge Limited. I am going to speak with a Ford adviser on Monday and ask about the intent and possible preventative maintenance.
  8. Always tow with the overdrive off. It helps the tranny and also helps engine braking when you let off the accelerator. If possible use the cruise control on flat roads. On hilly terrain don't use the cruise as you can anticipate hills by seeing them and adjust the accelerator accordingly, the cruise control will allow the vehicle to decelerate at the initial point of the climb then struggle to reach the set speed and maintain it as set.
  9. It's actually very easy. You find the foreign object, pull it out, shove the reamer tool into the hole and leave it there so the tire doesn't go flat. Put the plug into the plug insertion tool and coat the plug with the vulcanizer/glue. Move the reamer tool inside and out several times to rough up the wall of the hole. Pull out the reamer tool and insert the plug. Once the plug is through the tire you pull the tool out which automatically cuts the plug on the inside so it doesn't pull back out. Cut the plug flush with the tire using wire cutters and your done. I consider it an emergency/temporary fix and recommend going to a repair shop for a patch ASAP. It's something you can do on the side of the road which is much faster then changing to the spare or waiting for AAA.
  10. We have Discount Tire Stores all over the place here. They repair for free to bring in customers. They broke down the last tire I had repaired there, plugged the tire, nipped the plug flush on the inside and patched from the inside. I could see a shop charging for 30 minutes labor on a tire repair if they have to break it down. Thirty bucks sounds about right. Why does it always seem that the more expensive the tire, the more crap you pick-up from the road. I have 35X12.50 inch tires on my truck, to the tune of $350.00 a piece and I have picked up more miscellaneous road debris than any other vehicle I can remember. Every time I hear a "Ticking" noise from a tire I sweat to the tune of $700.00. They are directional and must be replaced in pairs, at least.
  11. Nice garage. Looks cleaner than most houses.
  12. Unfortunate, but don't let this issue make you dislike the vehicle. Once all the bugs are out, you will find it to be very capable, comfortable and fun to drive. Good Luck!
  13. Hey Blazed, that was supposed to be a DIG! Guess it's hard to relay sarcasm over the net. Oh well. I did mean the Happy Birthday part, on a serious note.
  14. Have driven the wife's Edge in ten to twelve inches of fresh snow and hardpacked snowy roads. It drives like a tank. I do tend to test the limits of my vehicles and the Edge handled it well. I feel better knowing my wife has a safe vehicle that can handle the weather, she drives to Golden, CO. for work. I'm secure in the knowledge that the Edge will keep her out of trouble and get her safely where she needs to go.
  15. My happy level rises for every person I steer towards Retro-Solution and HIDS. I wish they had a listed phone number so I could call and thank them. Oh yeah, a special shout out to "BlazedUp" for taking one for the team and being the "Guinea Pig" "Sacrificial Lamb" "Test Case" etc... Thanks for the Edge Specific Harness Blazed, Happy Birthday.
  16. You need a 194 wedge base bulb. I have the white LEDS in my wife's 2009 Edge. I got them from superbrightleds.com Check out how white and even the color is. They were like six bucks a piece. Well worth it to me.
  17. Yes "Blazed" the Auto-On functions normally. Absolutely no issues so far. Sorry about your problems, could be the kit, could be the car, or could be operator head space... Give it a rest man, there are dangers in life, you just got stung. The reason for it? Who knows. Cool Lex, were going out to Cali in the spring for vacation, probably, L.A., Hollywood, etc... all the touristy places...
  18. Haven't been on this forum very long, but I'm a little disappointed in your posts "Blazed Up". Sounds like Retro-S did everything they could to remedy your issues. And other posters attempted to give you advice also. The service you, I and several others have received from Retro-S is a step above what you normally see nowadays. You go from "they're illegal" to "Ordered a set" to "having problems" to " Stay away, cost me $1000". Then you attack Lex who is one of the most innovative and helpful posters. All after market accessories have some sort of potential negative effect. You had a bad experience, get over it...
  19. Yeah Lex, I know your in Cali. I like the beach, but just for vacations. I'm in the Southwest foothills of the Denver suburbs. We got about 10" of snow Saturday into Sunday. We get a lot of snow this time of year, hell we have several ski resorts open for the season already. That's why my wife drives the AWD Edge and I have the lifted F150. We need AWD/4 wheel drive here. Plus it's fun to pass the tree-huggers from Boulder in my truck while they struggle with their Prius or Subaru that has four inches of ground clearance. They do wave at me though, they just don't use all their fingers...
  20. Here are the pics. Sorry about quality but all I had was my phone. I threw in a couple pics of my truck. A 2007 F150 with a 6" lift and 35X12.50 tires. Awesome in the snow/off-road. If you look close you can see two ballasts on each side, one for the fogs and one for the lows. Also in here are pics of the two LEDS in the glove box and the pin switch. You can also see how white the two LEDS are in the rear license plate light.
  21. I agree with Lex. If you have dirt in your lamps the unit must be broken. The lens is sealed to the body of the lamp and takes some work to separate with the tools of your choice. If the unit is broken maybe you can separate them, clean them up and re-seal with some epoxy. As Lex stated once you have the clip side of the lamp down a bit just pull and the unit will come right out. The wiring is attached with 1/4 inch quick-disconnects for removal/replacement.
  22. The install took me about two and a half hours. It took me so long because I had a set of 35w 8000 HIDS in the lows from Euro Effects. That set did not have a relay harness and sometimes the passenger light would not come on. I moved that set to the fogs since the fogs don't run on a pulsed system and I won't have the light out issue. I had to remove the lower valance and the inner wheel wells to access the fogs and place the ballasts. That was a PITA, lying on the floor and trying to screw in the ballasts. I felt like a contortionist. I did get them secured in a good location though. That set is closer to the ground so I took my time and taped all connections to help with making them water "resistant". I put the Retro Solutions with relay in the lows. I'm kind of anal so I took my time running the wires, making the connections and securing everything with zip ties and electrical tape. The install was smooth with no problems. The lights lit up like they were supposed to. My wife drives the Edge so I will take some pics of the engine bay and them some pics of the lows and fogs when she gets home from work and it gets dark. The Euro Effects seem a little bluer than the 8000 Retros. Night time will give me a little better view though. The Edge has all red LEDS in the interior lights and the puddles so I put two red LEDS in the glove box, since the Edge didn't come with any sort of glove box illumination. I used a pin switch from NAPA and spliced into the hot and ground from the auxillary plug in the dash. The rear of the glove box has little round textured circles from the injection molding so I used these to perfectly space the LEDS. I used quick disconnects in both the hot and ground so I can remove the glove box when I have to change the cabin air filter. I also put a 10amp fuse in the line, just in case. I will also include a pic of the glove box. Pics are coming soon... On another note I bought a set of 9005 LEDS from superbright for the high beams. Todd from Retro Solutions was right. They are barely noticeable when the lows are on. The LEDS are not bright enough to use in any form that is supposed to light your way. I'm going to use them as lighting for the engine bay when the hood is open, I have the adapter/holders and pin switch. Just need time to do it.
  23. Sounds like something loose in the back. Check the spare tire area and be sure a kids toy, bolt, rock, etc.. has not found it's way down there. Sounds like some foreign object moving around while your driving. Ride in the back while someone else drives and see if you can narrow it down. I'm sure it's something simple.
  24. Put red LEDS in all interior lighting. Looks dark but the ambient lighting can always be changed to white if more light is needed. Looks good when walking up to the vehicle at night with the interior and the puddles casting a red glow. The first pic is the puddle lamp. Looks a lot better in person, the pics don't do the lighting justice. Hard to catch red with a camera.
