  1. I agree. As stated, I do not think a half qt would hurt anything, but over filling can increase the possibility of aerating the oil.
  2. Did you read what I posted or just go knee jerk?
  3. Do not know if your vehicle has a vent filter, but it might soften the inbound pressure.
  4. Not that a half a quart of oil is going to hurt anything, but you are putting your trust in that the dipstick is more acurate than the amount the engineers quoted for full. Whatever the dipstick is showing after 5.5 qts would be full. Where it shows on the dipstick is your reference. Again, if you are more comfortable with the dipstick looking right instead of the known amount of oil you put in, I think there would be no harm done.
  5. I have a 1923 T Bucket, which has something like 1940 brakes on the front. The bearing and seals have Ford on them. That is how long bearing should last. Ford started having a lot of warranty work on bearings in the early 90's. The T birds and explorers were notorious with rear diff bearing problems. The fungus has spread across the product line. The Escapes seem to have gotten more than their share. I am sure it is related to being manufactured in China. Does the NTSB keep track of problems like this? I'll bet Ford could compile some numbers, but we will never see them.
  6. Could be something as simple as a dirty throttle body. If the problem occurs when the a/c cycles on and the dirty passages interferes with idle adj for the increased load.
  7. Even though you obviously are not getting a check engine light, you might be storing an error code. Go by the dealer or auto parts store and let them see if you have a code that will help diagnois the problem. good luck,
  8. I looked at an X5 , Accura MDX, Lexus . One I liked and did not drive was a Cadilac SRX. I looked at a Mercedes, but forgot which one it was. I wanted the Accura bad, but it was so late coming on the market, I did not get to drive the 2010. I read they had trans problems, new 7 speed I think, and would not let it out until it was corrected. Good move on their part, but lost some sales, I am sure. A lot of the comparison cars were premium fuel only. I am glad now that the Lincoln MKX is reg fuel. Like the car except the seats get hard after about 50 miles. The back seats are actually better cushioned.
  9. If you are not hammer down with each take off, you might want to check your front tire pressures. They need to be the same. A low tire will magnify the pull in the steering wheel. Either you have a bunch of hp, spinning from takeoff or have something wrong, I have never felt it in my 2010 MKX. I did own some Honda Civics that would wrestle you for control of the steering wheel, and I was hammer down on that little car.
  10. It could be the alternator, but you are jumping to that conclusion, without considering something is pulling the battery down. In new cars there are a lot of systems that draw on the battery even with the ign switch off. The dealer should have checked 1st the output of the alternator, after replacing the battery and 2nd to see if there was an abnormal draw on the battery with the vechicle shut down. Did not mean to get long winded. The reason your neighbor could not jump the vehicle off was the bargain house jumper cables do not have sufficient cable size and or the output of his vehicle is too weak. The CAA equipment is for jumping off dead batteries. If you want to charge your battery, take a voltage reading with the engine off and then with the engine running. The battery should be around 12 volts, with the engine running the battery should read about 14 volts. You can do this with a simple volt/ohm meter, which will not damage anything or be dangerous. The dealer needs to be a little more thorough, and it could be the alternater.
  11. I can feel a small amount of vib in the gas pedal and maybe a little in the steering wheel when the ac compressor is engaged. Not something that should be happening in an MKX, but It is just a rebadged Edge.
  12. I would guess a motor or trans mount. Sounds like it is down to metal to metal. While the engine is in pull and torqued over compressing the bad mount, metal touching metal, no rubber isolation. Letting off the gas engine centers back up on the other mounts and quits touching metal. Escapes are starting to do this, but with more mileage. ?? Has the vehicle been hit or wrecked or dropped in gear at high revs a lot?
  13. I do not know if you are using the correct part number, but if you are, check to see if the rubber seal from the old filter was stuck to the engine. Make sure the new filter seal is pressed into its groove. Use oil only on the rubber seal and tighten 3/4 turn after good contact of the filter and mating surface. If the filter application is in question compare the diameters of the rubber seals and the threaded hole. On a separate note, Fram would be the last choice for a filter. Use a Motorcraft, Purolator or NAPA.
  14. I have a 2010 and have no problems in the operation of the MKX. It does have a slow shift from 1st to 2nd gear from a stop. It shifts on time, but seems to reduce throttle go between gears engage second then add throttle back. That is probably the way Ford has it programed, but it sure feels primitive. The rest of the shifts feel normal. Is this normal for other owners?
  15. Most of the steering stops are metal to metal. If you are holding the wheels turned until they are against the stops and you are moving, the stops are moving against each other, normal. If you intend to do this often and it bothers you, you can put a finger of grease on the stops. It will last until it rains or you wear it off.
  16. Hmmm? Is there an O/D switch on a 2011???? Love it.
  17. Probably going to be the switch or wire to it at the parking brake mechanism. A flash light and standing on your head, should reveal the culprit. good luck,
  18. spell the cuting with a K, KUTING. May not be read as cute, or you could use KUTN.
  19. With 6200 miles on my 2010 MKX fwd and 1 oil change at about 5000 miles, Mobil 1, I am getting 24 on the highway and about 25 on the side roads. Cruise control really hurts the mpg, since it downshifts to maintain the set speed. I started out reading something in the 30s and when it downshifted, it went to 19 mpg. To use the cruise and keep the mileage good, I press the accellerator to override the cruise and avoid the downshifting.
  20. I have 2010 MKX in the metalic red and the bumpers look like a totally different paint, the metal flake even looks different than that on the body. The bumper paint is not the same color and does not look as good as the vehicle. I thought I might have bought a repaired vehicle and checked for signs of repair on both ends, no indications of such. I think they must paint the bumpers on a different paint line.
  21. On my 2010 MKX i had to use voice commands to increase the nav volume.
  22. I really like your mileage, Theakerr. I'll bet I can get close to that, but have to limit it to highway driving only. We drove around Las Vegas everyday, back and forth to the strip. I did not detect any wind noise, but thought I heard something flapping while riding in the back seat. It may have been on an adjacent vehicle. I am pleased with the power, although an Acura TL sorta smoked me coming off a entrance ramp. I wasn't on the floor, but I doubt I would have had enough to really challenge her. I had some air leaks on something onetime. The dealer had some black peel and stick rubber foam. He must have had to do it before, because he ran a strip of it on the door opening next to the weatherstrip and fixed the leak.
  23. Drove from Alabama to Las Vegas and back in our 2010 MKX. I found out real quick the seats are par for Ford and comfortable for about 100 miles before areas start to ache. I found the same to be true on my 99 Cobra and 03 Escape. I changed the seats in the Cobra, but due to the air bag stuff, just suffer with the Escape. I bought the MKX to have something cushie to travel in. I guess I will look for a cushion for the seat bottom, which will defeat the heated and cooled front seats. Since, this was a 3 person vacation, I got to experience the back seats also, no better. This being my only real complaint with the car, I guess, I will vent a little in the event Ford is listening. Why would you spend so much on a nice vehicle and penny pinch on the comfort of the operator? The arm rest are hard and seem to have hard corners and are not the right height. Maybe they are, for different sized people. Most of the surfaces seem harder than they should be. The inside door latches on the driver and right rear passenger side are hinged in too far, like there is no stop for them. The other 2 are correctly stopped or aligned. While I am still on faults, I washed the MKX after getting home and noticed the front and rear bumpers are a completely different color and size of metal flake. I put it on the rack to change oil and I could not tell if the bumpers were replaced or repainted, due to damage prior to being sold. I used to have all this stuff corrected on previous vehicles, but grew to learn, sometimes the cure is worse than the problem. NOW, things that are good. The ride and quietness are pretty good. I would say about a 7.5. I have the 20 inch wheels. The tire pressure was dead on at 35 psi. The gas mileage averaged in the high 23s. It actually seemed to get better in the second half of the trip. the mid 24s for a while. Less than 6000 miles on it. Probably could have gotten better mileage, but New Mex makes you dirve 75 to 80 mph, hah. Did I read or hear the turn signal will flash 2 or 3 times if pushed for a lane change. Mine is still 1 flash. I might be confusing this with another vehicle. Sirius radio is nice, as is Sync. I got prompted for a vehicle report and received an email with the report. The hands free stuff is nice with the cell phone, still learning to use it correctly. Wipers, washer and headlights are good. Neat little notch in the console lid to run a wire out with the lid closed. I finally located the front tires, allowing me to dodge the reflectors when changing lanes. Storage is OK, not great. Cup holders are OK, not great. I have bought all Fords, except for a 75 Civic and an 85 Nissan pickup. I wish Ford would do a little better. I rented a Dodge Caravan for a 7000 mile trip and it beat the MKX in all comfort areas. The storage was better and larger, the mileage was a tad better and power was about the same. It was a 2009 model. Enterprise sold it after I got back due to being over 15000 miles. And the best for last, the seats. They did not look plush, they were not leather, they did not heat and cool, but for the whole trip, no one got saddle sores, 3 passengers. The seats were comfortable, how hard was that to do? Just wait until I find a good cushion to put in my MKX......
  24. There are several kits for the Mustangs, to install a gas cylinder to raise and hold the hood up. There could be some for MKX also. I sure was relieved to find out the weight in my hood keeps me alive. I just meant Ford missed an opportunity to help gas mileage and improve stopping distances. Here is another, missed opportunity. I rented a Dodge Caravan for a 7000 + mile trip to avoid beating up my new MKX. The vehicle was supprisingly good in all areas. Gas mileage was always over 20 mpg, mostly 23 to 25. Front seats, a big deal to me, were comfortable and supportive. I am not that pleased with the Lincolns seats. I think they left the seat cushion out to make room for the power motors. My MKX is definitely more posh, but the window sticker on the Dodge was 26,000. This has to be one of the better deals out there. Too bad, I am a Ford Fan and seldom deviate from the path.
