  1. Later this week I will be driving from cleveland to the UP. It should be a good test for the mpg as I know it will be at least 4 hours on a single stretch of road 23n. I am anxious to find the "sweet spot" as far as mpg efficiency is concerned. I have noticed great mpg at 55 and 60. So far, but I rarely drive any distance at those speeds. I am hoping to have the tach settle in at just under 2000 at 70mph. I will let you know. I filled up last week and for the first time, the DTE calculated going over 400 miles before empty....maybe it is breaking in a bit.
  2. Here are some pics, the first and third pic are the driver side, the second and fourth are passenger side
  3. I feel your pain brother! And Uncle Sam got cheap this year and lowered the mileage allowance didn't he?
  4. Not necessarily for fords sake, but the used car market and resale value...most of the leases thru ford motor credit, when turned in, the dealer network can buy those vehicles and have as CPO units and command a good buck. By having short term lease and high residual values, you create that influx of slightly used cars, which obviously can be sold again at very good margins on the dealer end. Look at honda for example, they have done it for years and created a market for that 2 or 3 year old car that many people will be willing to seriously look at as opposed to a brand new vehicle which may cost prohibitive. Personally, I don't believe that anyone should buy a brand new vehicle...lease 'em. I buy things that appreciate in value, not depreciate. I lease items that depreciate. Just like I would never buy a brand new boat or expensive "toy" if at all possible....let the first owner take the huge hit. But I would look at a 2015 vehicle in 2017 with 20,000 miles on it....compared to a new 2017 model....as much as these things cost now, it amazes me how many people buy new cars. I can only speak for myself, but when I think of how many vehicles I have actually paid off in my lifetime I can think of only a couple of beaters that I owned in my late teens and early twenties. To make a payment affordable anymore, you have to go 60 to 72 months....and then what do you own, if you keep it the entire time and don't get that itch to trade it in on something new? A 6 year old vehicle with 85k on it? How much is that really worth? What type of maintenance will it need? Timing belt, brakes, tires, computer module, a new rim or two. Rims on these things now are more than my first car was. I would bet that a 20" rim in my edge is at least $400. So let's say you have no car payment, but have to replace 2 rims. Well your "payment" that month was $800 for a 6 year old vehicle with 85k on it. Lease 'em and turn 'em! You get more vehicle for the money, very rarely have to put any money into it other than a few oil changes and tire rotations and the rest will probably be warranty items. I know I certainly like to have a newer vehicle more often and I don't have to worry about negative equity....there is none. If I absolutely love the vehicle, then maybe I buy it at the residual value at the end of the lease if not, throw my salesman the keys and jump in my new rig at the dealership in 24 - 36 months...I have come to the conclusion and acceptance that I will always have 3 payments that I will have to make until the day I die....1) a mortgage payment, 2) car payment, 3) alimony payment. I am ok with all 3 at this point as long as I can keep them affordable to me. Just my 2 cents
  5. What length of term do you have? I would think that the short term lease would be very attractive so that ford doesn't lose an entire model year of vehicles coming into the used car market down the road as lease turn ins.
  6. I am with you mac....I have in the past over filled it and leaked on the ground, I tend to fill up as much as possible even into the fuel neck I suppose. To date on my 2015 I have not been able to put enough fuel in it to push the dte to over 400 miles. When driving as much as I do, I get a feel for whether the fule prices will be falling or rising and I am no stranger aftering seeing a "trend" to stop and top it off regardless of amount that I need/have. I have been burned too many times to see gas at one price today and raised over $.30/gal the next morning...when you drive as much as we do, hell we live in these vehicles it seems, it all adds up..
  7. Just curious....have you had an edge before and if so what do you like or dislike comparatively speaking? Did you lease or buy it? If lease, was the ford lease program strong on this vehicle with residual values and money factors(interest rates)?
  8. I would think based on their location that they do a ton of "A", "X" and "Z" plan deals. Those plan really take all the negotiating out of the deal...precise discounts based on invoice numbers....you either like the car or you don't, there is no haggling unless you have a trade you are dealing with.
  9. Good catch. I will look at later today. I also noticed the last second "slam" of the rear door. Speaking of which, my next door neighbor works for a suppler who is responsible for all the programming of the robotic machines. His company uses their robots to fit the doors and the glass. In particular the windshield and rear glass. Anyway, he noticed that the gaps surrounding my rear door are not consistent. Driver side fit/finish is nice and tight, while the passenger side has a noticeable gap. He stated that the door needs to be re-aligned by lossening the bolts of the hinges at the top and relight ended down. Now, to me it is like having a "spot in my shirt that I know about and is hard for others to see". Possibly this has something to do with the "slam" according to him. It seems as though especially after having closing the rear door manually, that the door should have to "slam" it's way down. It does have a mechanism that pulls the door into lock position after it closes. My Escape seemed to do the same thing, so maybe it is a design issue.
  10. Ok now that my new edge has 1038 miles on it, here are some more personal opinions....first let me say that today while my wife had me bustin my hump in the yard, the new edge with the rear seats down can hold 25 bags of mulch. I don't know if that is more or less than the last edge. I have the ceramic leather interior, and I knew that the floor was black regardless of interior color, but what is also nice is the rear compartment behind the seats and the seat backs is black also. My wife MKX last year with the light interior also had the light cargo area and seat backs. The steering wheel controls especially for the radio or the right controls are much more precise than previously. I often times would not use those buttons because I could never get to where I wanted on the screen/controls. The push buttons are awesome! I like the switch from the screen to the buttons, at least you know what you are pushing and it responds instantly. I am getting used to the 2.0 I really don't like the "gerble" sounds that the engine makes when starting from a stop. I am more prone to get into the 3000 rpm range as quick as I can so that I can get the response that I prefer. I still haven't noticed any suspension or handling difference in the "sport" mode other than the higher rpm shift points. Once you are cruising in the edge it is very responsive, but from a dead stop not so much. I have the panoramic roof, and today noticed a little rattle. I was going down a dirt road, so I will have to see what this about on a paved road. I drove about 15 miles, on North Territorial road, for those of you here in Michigan from Godfredson road to Dexter-Pinckney road set the cruise at 55. For that stretch according the computer I averaged 34.3 mpg. The road is fairly flat, but I did have to stop at a few traffic lights. So I would guess that on a highway, about 60 or so, one would get the 30mpg as stated, but I certainly don't drive 55 or 60 or 65 much...another nice feature is that when you are signaling to turn, especially when changing lanes, the BLIS light on that side mirror, flashes, almost to tell you to look twice before switching lanes. I haven't noticed for certain or not, but I think it only does this when it has sensed a car there previously not on lets say a turn it a traffic stop, more while on the move. I do miss the fog lights. I know that it has the running lights, but I also like the fogs. My wife's MKS has bright white running lights, mush brighter than the running octagonal lights here. Well that pretty much covers where I am at after 6 days of having the vehicle so far. I will put another 1000 on it this week as that is pretty standard for me...about 50k year. I will keep you posted as to anything else I might find to type about. I have only seen 1 other one in the road so far in my travels....that was here in mi and it had a plate similar to mine on it, so it was a management incremental lease as well....in closing, the one thing I really miss are my chrome rims and 22" tire and wheel package. I cannot stand the dark rims....it looks like everyone else's out there....when I had my 2011 sport, people would always ask if those were factory rims or not, and when I said they were, they couldn't believe it. No one says anything about these rims...they are 20" but don't have that "turn your head and look twice" to them....just like everyone else's cars and trucks these days...I think that ford should at least let you chose that type of wheel combo if the customer wants or doesn't want the dark, wheels. Frankly, I would probably not order the sport with the 21" wheels because of that dark color...
  11. I had a 2013 escape with the 2.0 ecoboost available at the time. I had terrible mileage with it. So much so, that the Powertrain group put a black box in it to see what was going on. Needless to say, the escape did not meet many of the projected mpg numbers and ford paid dearly for it. This version of the 2.0 May be different, at least I hope so. Not only is it pulling around a much bigger vehicle, but I know many refinements have been made. I think the current 2.0 is highway rated at 30 mpg..I will try and see if I can run a stretch of at least 10 miles after zeroing out the computer and see it I can stay at about 60mph and just see what the computer "says" it is getting. After doing basically all city driving all day today, and 110 miles additional on the ticker, my average mpg is still above 23....but then again, so was my big overweight Lincoln with the 3.7. Perhaps the ideal vehicle for this engine to really benefit in mpg would be the escape or the MKC. Smaller vehicle, less weight etc. I don't know if this 2.0 is the same one that my wife has in her MKZ 2.0 hybrid or not...
  12. Very few places I drive have speed limits less than 70. Here in Michigan it is like the German Autobahn where you Basically drive however fast you feel safe. Many times I am passed and I am doing 80. I understand the increased wind resistance, but like I said the vehicle seems to really move around in it not based on speed, but higher winds. It doesn't feel as "grounded" to the road as my 2011 sport did. Maybe it is the tires I don't know yet as I need to wear them in a bit. Interestingly, my 2014 Lincoln MKS with the 3.7l averaged 23.4 at the same speeds. Are there any freeways that are still 55 anymore anyways?
  13. I tell you what, if they offers the sport in the magnetic metallic, with last year's 22" tire wheel package, I would probably order 2! Looking at this thing in the garage, man that car would would explode with style, attitude and class. I have said before, I am not a big fan of the "dark" rims. Between the chrome which would pickup the chrome accents especially on the belt line, I know that the sport the trim is blacked out, but also the octagonal running lights look really nice with chrome in the vacinity of them. I have said that since day one with the sport, they need to offer a gray of some sort, only black and silver available. If this wasn't a management incremental lease, I would buy a set of the 2014 22" rims and run those babies through the summer at least....on this vehicle. When I came out of the rest area on the turnpike, there were 6 people standing around my buggy like at a car show. I think ford should shoot me a set of those rims for my "walk-a-round" of the newest edge. I don't know if I sold any, but I know that 3 people for sure are going to show up at their local dealer and look more closely at it! Ford monitor.......are you listening/reading???!!,!
  14. I do in fact know the area well! That new focus, the RS(?) looks like a beast.....i would love to drive one of those for a little while once they offer them stateside...maybe next year. But I have my eyes set on a sport just to race around in that f-150 engine in a family wagon has got to be refreshing. Did you get the 21 tire/wheel pkg? I read somewhere that the package is for "summer" tires. Is that true? My 22"s on my 2011 sport were pirelli's and they did fine in the snow and ice.
  15. Ok after logging 428 miles today here are some first I pressions.. I have to keep in mind it is a 4 cylinder engine at the end of the day. That being said, 0-60 is not a rocketship by any means. Once the tach gets into the 3000rpm range, the torque and turbo really kick in. Plenty of pull, but not hair raising. Engine is loud under heavy acceleration. When I really jumped on it getting onto the freeway, I actually had some torque steer going on. Maybe new tires, maybe just real responsive steering. I liken he vehicle better when in "s" mode. It drives more like my 2011 spirt used to. Gear ratios are changed, higher rpm before shifting. I have not used it enough to notice any suspenson changes or adjustments, but I would suspect that there is a difference. I ran about 130 miles at 79 mph and clocked 23.8mpg. Nothing to write home about, but I just picked it up yesterday....break inn period? Maybe to a degree? I have to say, that the sound system in this thing is far superior to my 2011 and also my 2012 Escape as well as my 2014 Lincoln MKS. The MFT is very responsive and believe me, I have had my share of MFT in the last 4 years or so...I have been there with the "black screens" , the gods showing me that I am driving in the middle of a lake, wrong turns, the voice recognition used to tell me all sorts of things. People on the other end of phone calls say there is an echo on the hands free. I noticed that the speaker is in the middle of the car by the overhead counsel. It was on the headliner just above the driver door on my Lincoln and it sounded great to others, better than any other I have owned with the MFT. I miss the power steering wheel tilt and scope, takes. While to get the right adjustment with the seat and the wheel. It was very windy today, it did not feel very aerodynamic as it moved quiet a bit. More than I remember. The seats are thinner, but much softer, especially the headrests. So far after 1 day, the thing I like the most is the amount of storag space(s) in this thing. Man there are spaces everywhere. Usually I have a bunch of crap in both front door bins, but in this, just the driver door and that stuff I could really hide totally if I wanted to. The center counsel is bigger than my college dorm room was and for the "real men" reading this, deep too! Well we will clock another 500 or so the rest of the week and will update then. But as of now, I am very pleased overall. Nice ride to, not to soft, not to hard....just right I think. I know they stiffened the chassis considerably this time around and it shows almost immediately.
  16. 2.0....I will be driving my usual 1000 miles this week, give or take a few and will let you know what my thoughts and impressssions are. I am anxious to see where it lines up with relationship to the 3.5, 3.7 in all areas
  17. Do you know if they charge while car is off?
  18. In the past, using the usb outlet would not charge my iPhone or iPad also when the car was off, the phone or iPad didn't charge. Using the 12v power point it does....or at least it did. I will have to play with it and see what gives on this one. My 2014 Lincoln MKS was the same way, usb-no charge my toys, power outlet it charges both while running as well as turned off. I use pandora a lot using my BT Stero media setting, no direct connection to iPod or phone cause I am "old school" on didn't have any songs in my phone. I had to have my 8 year old put all my cd's onto a drive a few years ago when they got rid of Sync and went with MFT...I really liked the Sync being able to download all the cd's onto the hard drive..oh well....progress I guess.
  19. I just picked up my titanium today. I will log about 1000 miles this week and will let you know my opinion. The 2.0 is peppy, but not fast....make sense. The torque really peaks at about 3000rpm as they state. I am very satisfied with my choice this time around with opting for the lighter interior instead of the black that comes in the sport. The magnetic metallic and the soft ceramic go very well together in my opinion. I am anxious to order my 2016 and it will be sport as I have drive that engine for a while.
  20. I just picked up my titanium. Worked out better today than tomorrow anyways. I really like the magnetic metallic with the soft ceramic combo. I had not had the opportunity to see it on an actual vehicle prior to ordering. I thought that it would look sharp and I think it does. I will give an update after logging some miles this week.
  21. Kinda tough to do without an emergency brake handle, but I will do my best. We'll see if I can't get those 20 in tires down to about 18's by the weekend
  22. Well the news I have been waiting for....I just recieved and email saying that my new titanium is ready for pick up at world HQ! I will pick it up tomorrow and take plenty of pics to share. The fact that mine was bullt the last week of January and was obviously held up due to some sort of issue, large or small I have no idea and now it is available would basically tell me that the plant is now cranking these babies out and have had time and manpower to go through the pre-job vehicles. At least a mine:) i will be doing my normal 1000 miles of driving this week and should have some initial thoughts and results of fuel economy...unlke others, I will drive it like I stole right out of the gate...you know you have to "scrub" those tires to get the optimal traction! Of course it is supposed to rain the next few days....story of my life.
  23. I had that little drawer storage compartment in a Mercedes S320 that I had It was really a nice little feature to hold small items, I used for change. Tron, how many miles do you have your new sport? The weather is trying to get nicer here in mi and would think in ny as well. Still have not heard anything on my edge or seen ANY others out there....I wonder if they are producing and shipping them unless there was a stoppage at the plant...anyone have any info? I would think that with the anticipation of this vehicle, they would ship these things 24/7 and get them into the dealers' inventory ASAP.
