First, let's start with the current specs of the machines to be rebuilt:

Desktop current specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom X4 965 Black Edition

RAM: 8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1333 (CAS Latency, 9)

Seagate 750 GB Hard Drive

Seagate 1TB Hard Drive

Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB Hard Drive

Koutech Internal Card Reader

US Robotics Fax Modem (Guess I am a little old-fashioned that way)

Antec 550w Power Supply

Lite-On IDE DVD Burners w/LightScribe

Cooler Master HAF 922 Case

XFX 7900 GT Video Card

MSI 870A-G54 motherboard

Home Theater PC

Processor: AMD Phenom X2 555 Black Edition

RAM: 4GB G.Skill DDR2 1066

Seagate 1.5 TB 5900 RPM drive

LG Blu-Ray Burners w/ Lightscribe

Silverstone ST70F 700w power supply

Silverstone GD01-MX case

MSI 785GTM-E45 Micro ATX motherboard

Both of these rigs need to be rebuilt to current specs. I will post the planned upgrades this evening....

Had a streak of bad luck with MSI motherboards that made me finally switch over to Gigabyte (not the fastest, I know, but quite reliable the last 2+ years).

Wireless-n at least, maybe even fiber optic backbone? :hyper:

I will agree. Updating them is a real pain in the :censored:. That's why I went Asus this time around.

I went with a 1200 W PS in order to give myself some headroom if I decide to go SLI in the future. With things like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and a few other things, I need the firepower. I did have a UPS on my desktop before but may go that route again. Possibly APC.

Looks like very good specs on both. Not sure about ASRock, no experience with them.

Do you expect to max out the desktop, power wise, I notice the 1200W rating for the PS. Gaming/CAD? You must have a beefy UPS protecting that one :)

Silverstone is NICE!

ASRock is supposed to be a pretty decent board that is equvalent to Asus.

Video card is being changed to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130799

I am also looking at a new sound card for my desktop.

Complete overkill... Even if you were a network engineer and running xfinity across 6, 50" monitors.. Web designing and movie making production co's don't need that much..

As for a good sound card, the XFI Fatal1ty Champion Series by Sound Blaster is one of the best out. I have no complaints on it. Drivers were buggy in the beginning but that has since been fixed. I have the two part series.. Front bay and rear card slot.

I'd look into the Cooler Master v8.. Way better than the one you mentioned in your post.. Also, the Cooler Master case is sub par when pumping out that much heat. I'd stick with either a Lian Li, or try out the Antec 900 or 1200. The big boy 220mm on top really is a horse when pumping out exhaust!

You mean like the 200 mm fan that's at the top of the Cooler Master HAF 922 I have now? Additionally, the case has a 200mm fan in the front and I installed another 200mm on the side for intake. The back has a 140mm.

To do all of that, i'd just water cool the system and be done with it..
