Stephen Bradford
My daughter has a 2008 Edge and was sitting in Houston traffic when her battery light came on. Got to a safe place and noticed heavy corrosion on positive batter post. Cleaned it up and continued on. When she almost got to her destination, the battery light came back on then the car died. She coasted into a parking lot and noticed the serpentine belt had slipped off. Both the altenator pully and tensioner pulley seem fine. Any suggestion on why the battery light would come on and why the belt would come off?
akirby
Well the battery light should be obvious. It doesn't mean the battery itself is bad it means the alternator isn't working. And it's not working because the belt came off. Either something hit the belt from the roadway or I'd guess the tensioner broke.
omar302
Or it's a very old belt that stretched too much for the tensioner to tighten up.
macbwt
If you are a DIY type go out and get the new stretchy belt for the power steering and new serpentine and tensioner about 160 dollars Then do what I did in this video My daughter has a 2008 Edge and was sitting in Houston traffic when her battery light came on.
