2014Edgy
I know there's some sharp people on this forum, so I'll pose this question about the anti-sway system on my 2014 Edge. I understand how the Edge CONTROLS anti-sway once it occurs, but what I would like to know is how it DETECTS when anti-sway occurs. I've heard that it can detect anti-sway before the driver does. So, how does the Edge detect when anti-sway is occurring? Thanks, Denis Anaheim, CA
omar302
That is the best I was able to find: http://www.motorshow.me/GalleryDocs/Doc4844.pdf
2014Edgy
Wow, sounds like there's quite a few sensors that monitor trailer sway. "steering wheel angle sensors, yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensors and a gyroscopic roll rate sensor" Didn't realize there were so many. Thanks
akirby
The steering angle and yaw sensors are part of the normal stability control already so it was easy to add trailer sway control.
omar302
As per the leaflet, "Trailer Sway Control" uses the technologies of Ford’s AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control) to provide an additional layer of confidence and control while towing., so it seams it is only a software/algorithm added without any additional hardware and/or sensors. Even the yaw rate, lateral acceleration and gyroscopic roll rate sensors are originally part of Ford's Stability & Roll control systems.
Waldo
When you get yaw without roll or steering wheel input, it's most likely coming from trailer sway. As noted, all the sensors are already there, so it's just a matter of tuning to recognize the patterns.
