My Ford Edge is causing me major stress

I've had My Edge 11 months now and it has been in the shop over 40 working days.

The list is huge on the troubles I'm having with this vehicle.

The first week I had the unit it started to slip in gear changing. The dealer replaced the sensor and reprogramed the transmision.

Then it was in for the rear right wheel bearing, that the dealership replaced. After a month it went in for the left wheel bearing.

The satelite kept cutting out for no reason the dealership said they would have to rewire the pod on the back of the Edge. I said no that I'll let the six months run out and not renew the Satelite service.

I noticed that the tail gate was rubbing against the side of the bummper. I talked to the Bodyshop manager at the dealership. He showed me that the hatch was off a little bit and that it would me major work to fix it. I said lets leave it.

The transmision still slipping and getting worse.

The Edge starts to leake transmision fluid all over the driveway, THIS IS THE START TO MY NIGHTMARE.

Take it to dealership, they replaced the gasket on the transfer case.

My wife and I go out one evening and the passanger door won't unlock.

Off to the dealership they replace the electronic lock system.

Leaks again they replace the gasket again.

The cluster panel starts to flash one night, So I take it in again and the replace a rear sensor.

Starts to leak again and I take it in, Now the dealership starts to give me a hard time. The Shop manager is starting to make the gilt trip om me.

The seal has been replaced 6 times by now. And yes now the Vista roof starts to make a noise.

I talk to the VP of FORD Larry Nurse customer relations.

He tells me that Ford is working on problem and that there is nothing they will do in buying my Edge back. But still keep bringing it back in to the dealership and it will someday get fixed right.

My brother inlaw works at the Oakville plant and so does my wife. My brother inlaw talks to the head of Enginering and tells him of all the problems I'm having.

The Edge goes back to the dealership for the slipping of gears and the burning of oil and the moisture in the rear taillights and the noise in the Vista roof. The Manager and I have not so nice words to tell each other. Basicly it's all in my head.

Two Enginers come in to the dealership thanks to my brother inlaw and replace the drive shaft and the crank case. Which took 8 time to do this.

I take it home that night and back in the next morning for the Vista roof noise. The Tech hears the noise and I lose it again. This time they replace the hole Vista roof.

I picked it up today and guess what, The Transmision slips again. What am I going to do.

The dearship doesn't even want to give me a curtesy vechile any more. I NEED HELP.

I HAVE OWNED 15 FORD VECHILE IN THE PAST 14 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER GONE THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS. :sos:

what state do you live in. you might want to check teh lemon laws. your story sounds like it would be one that is def. a lemon.

i'd write to ford maybe and teel them your stroy. i'd call the local news and tell them your stroy.

I live near the Ford Plant where they make the Edge in Ontario Canada. My wife Works on the line and her side of the family works there too. I have talked to the union and to Upper management at Ford, they say they can't help me with getting me out of this vehicle and getting me into another one. The answer was WE KNOW YOUR HAVING A LOT OF PROBLEMS BUT IF WE HELP YOU WE HAVE TO HELP EVERYONE ELSE. The lemon laws aren't as good here as they are in the states. I do love my Edge but she is in major trouble. I'm a person that is very quiet and never complains but if anyone that has gone through what I'm going through would understand. I'm hopping someone out there reads this and can steer me in the right direction. I just want to get on with life. Over 40 day in the shop and still having issues.

Having been through Lemon process - first I would research heavily what the laws are in your locality. Most likely (again sure sure with your location), you will meet under the arbitration process.

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING - trips to dealer, problems, what the dealer said, service reports, receipts for your work like oil changes, etc. Be nitty gritty. Having done this with GM and Ford (again, I am in the states - Ohio), we had a fully documented case (I documented EVERYTHING - time it took to get to dealer, time waiting - everything). The guys who came out for the arbitration was so flabbergasted, that the whole process took 2 hours to decide the vehicles were lemons. However, this does NOT include the time it took to get there - which is a long and arduous process. Be prepared to point everything out on the vehicle - use post its or other stickies to tie in with your documentation.

Again, I wish you luck and lemon laws vary by locality. Go to your local library or some other reference to get information on process and laws regarding lemon laws. Call around - call other dealers if you have too. You don't need a lawyer - unless lemon laws are not recognized where you are by Ford. My parents had a Chrysler that was a Lemon and at that time, Ohio did not recognize Chrysler as a lemon law process (or something like that). They needed a lawyer to sue Chrysler and of course they documented everything and won - but not after soooo much headache.

Good Luck

BTW - I am having good luck with mine but I dont have many miles.

Thanks Solas,

I'm going through that process as we speak. I would just like everything to come to an end with my Edge having to go to the shop.

Basicly if I could keep all the parts that are failling on my Edge I could build another one.

I'm down to two things happening right now and that is the transmision slipping which only happens in low speeds, and my front end makes a grinding noise when I apply the brakes, but both of these problems come and go. And the dealership hasn't found out the problem yet.

My list so far

- NEW VISTA ROOF

- NEW DOOR LOCK SYSTEM

-NEW SHAFT

- NEW CRANCK CASE

- NEW RIGHT WHEEL BEARING

- NEW LEFT WHEEL BEARING

- NEW TRANSMISION SENSOR

- NEW HARDWARE TO REPLACE THE 60 SIDE OF MY REAR SEAT THAT FAILED TO FOLD DOWN.

AND A FEW OTHER MINOR PROBLEMS.

We didn't have such a good start with our Edge as well. We bought it two Saturdays ago and the roof stuck open that night. Dropped it off first thing Monday morning and didn't get it back until Wednesday evening. Hopefully that was just a one off and we're in for a long reliable run.

It's the Bionic Edge! As previously driven by Lee Majors.

They have the technology. They can rebuild it. ....na-na-na-na.

(I know it isn't funny that your Edge is having so many problems. It's just a crazy that they are going through all these motions with you.)
