USB ports: Capable of reading only some USB drives?

Trying to find out why some USB thumb drives cannot be read by SYNC 3.  Have a 2016 Edge Titanium with the updated (Apple CarPlay capable) media hub.  Have used a Lexar 3.0 drive with no problem (formatted with either ExFat or Fat32) but some newer SanDisk 3.0 drives and a Samsung 3.1 drive will not be recognized when formatted either way.  Get a notification saying "error, bad cable or chan...."  (note is cut off and doesn't scroll).  Have erased and reformatted several times, but won't work.  The drives are easily read by my Mac and by the USB ports in a new GMC Terrain.  Am pulling my hair out (what little I have left) trying to figure out why.  Anyone experience these same problems?

if you have access to a windows box, try using that to format. i've had various problems with usb drives and formatting using mac and windows and even a chrome book.

it's a long shot but if i were in your shoes, i'd give it a shot.

Thanks Ben.  If I had access I might try.  But even the drives that DID work were formatted using the same Mac, so really don't think that would make a difference.

never had an issue, specially with FAT32 since most large drives need to be that format. I have a 500GB drive hooked up now. Really odd though.

Odd is right!! Just trying to find a physically smaller drive so I can shut the console door when I want to.
