Loud slushing gas tank

Hi Folks,

I just purchased an 08 FWD Edge Limited Vapour Silver last week and as soon as I drove it off the lot I noticed a loud slushing noise coming from the gas tank everytime I stopped the car. At first I thought it was a half bottle of windshield washer fluid. The next day I immediately went back to the dealer and took the service manager for a ride and he totally heard the slushing noise and he also spotted one of my 20 inch chrome rims peeling, which is now on order. We test drove two other cars on the lot and they both had the same slushing noise, it seems to be louder when the tank is full. Also that annoying humming noise is going to drive me crazy, I know there are some threads on this but has anybody solved this problem??? Anyway back to the slushing, the dealer has afford me a brand new Edge if I want but they all have the slushing noise so the dealer is sending in two Oakville engineers to look at my car this week. Three problems in less than 24 hours of owning my Edge.

Anyone else out there have this slushing problem?????

By the way I still love this car but really want these issues to be resolved, the rims are an easy fix but the gas noise and that humming is going to be a hard one to deal with.

Thanks,

Also have an 08 Edge Limited, Vapor Silver, live in Dallas, TX, have had for 3 weeks, but no slushing noise or humming noise. My only complaint is the drivers side A/C vent does not go far enough to the right.

Drove 3 different Edges at my local dealer in Dallas, never herad a slushing noise from the gas tank.

Maybe they do not put the same amt. of insulation around the gas tank for the vehicles sold in Canada?

I have an 08 Edge Limited, Black - I've heard the same sound - not all the time - usually just backing out of my driveway (slight incline)

I have also heard the same sound from my wife's 07 Mazda CX9 - similar car.

I have an appointment with a Ford engineer on Friday at the dealers, I

ll keep you guys updated. This slushing noise happens on every stop or back up movements, even on slow turns, but is especially loud when the tank is full.

Based on the "full" status it almost sounds like the baffles in the tank are only installed up to a certain height. When its full there is fluid above this level and it "sloshes" around since it is not restrained by the baffles.

Bet there was a bunch of off spec tanks used in a production run. Doubt Ford would ever admit it but how would they know at the assembly plant as the suppliers would be delivering sealed units. Testing at the plant would not catch it as the tank is never "filled" at the plant and the testing is on a dynomometer type device and would not provide the body movement you indicated causes this noise.

I see a service call and a new tank being installed in your near future ! Glad to hear the service manager is going to be backing you up on this one.

In reply to your problem to slushing noise in tank I have the same vehicle as yours. I brought my vehicle back to the dealer twice and they cannot find a solution to the problem . The additional problem I am having is when I fill the tank I can hear a loud banging when you come to sudden stop. The dealer stated he cannot drop the tank without Ford's authorization. I have reported this problem to Ford corporate customer service, they are looking into it, but in the meantime told me not to fill the tank at this time. I would like to know where do you stand with your dealership on this problem, have they already given you a new edge or did they find a solution to your problem. If they have, can you give me the name of your dealership and the service manager's name so that my dealership can call them. I am finding it very difficult to deal with Ford, they are not admitting to having this problem.

Your dealership is wrong. They do not need ford's authorization to drop, inspect or replace the tank assuming that something is wrong. It is a warranty issue and not something that needs prior authorization. You need to try another dealership, or tell your service manager you want to speak to the area ford rep.
