Why would Ford leave these out?

I went from a '19 Edge to a '22 Edge Titanium. My '22 Edge is missing 2 things that the older one had. The biggest thing missing is being able to lock and unlock the car from the back doors, I really miss that. I can't figure why they would take that away. A small thing that is different, but I still miss it is the center council doesn't have 2 buttons and tray isn't hinged.

Welcome to the forum @2nd Time Owner!

The reason why Ford removed the rear door keyless entry is due to cost cutting and the COVID chip shortage.

Huh.  I never really thought about it,  but yeah, I can see myself missing that also.  I use the rear door lock probably as much or more than I use the front door lock.  It is interesting though that my '23 Explorer still has the rear door locks.  Or maybe they're back on there.  Hmm, dunno.

90% of the time I lock or unlock my 2019 from the rear door proximity/handle touch.

As a few others have reported, eventually the rear doors stop working (and passenger front), I can't follow the pattern, but it is annoying (other suspect it might be related to battery SoC/health).

Generally the first and last place I access is the back seat. To get my stuff I put on the rear passenger area floor, assist toddlers or elders from the back seat, or on my way to or from the cargo area.

????......?

Proximity lock/unlock on years that have it at all 4 doors appear to have it stop working for all doors but the drivers front door. It seems like maybe it is related to battery health. For me it seems to stop working when the vehicle is sitting, and frequently opened and closed and locked and unlocked (like unloading at public parking lot that is far away from where you taking things to, so unlock, grabs some stuff, close and lock it, then make multiple return trips like this).

I am in the same boat, no other indications of a weak battery, so no reason for me to change it yet (car battery, not battery in fob I don't think, equally affects both fobs at the same time).

That is correct. It is part of the battery load shedding. All proximity lock/unlock will not work except for the driver’s door.

I have been experiencing this since purchasing my 2020 Edge which was brand new. I have had my batteries and charging system checked and both passed. The other thing that you should be experiencing is the stop start function will not operate. I am not sure what the sweet spot is, but my problem is that I do not drive enough. I have had to buy a Battery Tender to recharge the battery when the door situation occurs. I know that there are two different alternators available for the Edge. There is a 175 amp and 200 amp alternator available. I am not sure if the 200 amp alternator were installed (and I am sure that I have the 175 amp), if it would make any difference.

All too often dealers and mechanics check the battery by just checking the voltage. A battery at rest can show 12½ volts, but drops dramatically when a load is applied. The proper method to use when checking a battery is to check its actual capacity; the CCA rating.

A battery check can show 12½ volts but have only 40% backup capacity, which means that as soon as you crank the engine, there's no reserve left for the other loads; and the voltage drops.
