RPGR90s
Just recently, I went to open the shade for my sunroof (2019 Edge ST) and near the end of travel, it sounded like gears stripping, etc. I just took it in to the local Ford dealer (Stillwell Ford in Hillsdale, MI) and they gave me an estimate of $1800 (OUCH!) I declined obviously, so I wanted to ask if that is a known issue and maybe get pointed to some repair it yourself videos. I am capable, having been a mechanic/engineer for over fifty years. Thanks very much. (Love the car, lament that I got the panaorama roof) RPG
garycrist
Moral of the story often repeated, Never open the pano roof and never encounter a problem.
Samurai Edge
If it sounds like gears stripping, it could be something is simply off track and needs to be put back into place OR gears are stripping. They want to change you $1800 because to determine the problem, the glass roof will need to be removed. So, most of it is labor time @ $200+ / hour. There are videos on Youtube on how to do this yourself so if you feel capable, then go for it. If not, just leave it closed and never open it again. And I just realized you asked this exact same question less than a month ago and I gave you the same answer. STBEAST
Not to get off track (no pun intended) but I have a 2024 ST with about 9000 miles. About 2 months ago I noticed a metallic popping/tapping/snapping sound coming from the right rear corner of the moonroof area. Right side rear corner. Doesn't matter if the shade or the moonroof is open or closed. It happens on bumpy roads and it is not there when it is cold out. It seems as the sun warms the top of the car, this noise becomes more noticeable. Thanks for any suggestions. And yes, turning the stereo up is a solution! This is a common and annoying issue with a fairly easy fix. See this thread......
STBEAST
Davidoo, thank you for locating that thread. I actually made a couple of post and ended up putting one of those felt pads underneath the clip. fishx65 suggested it in a post and I did the same thing. I will keep everyone posted. I noticed in your last post on that thread you stated that the noise had come back on your 22 ST and it wasn't the bar? Do you have any updates on your situation regarding this? Thanks
