Ordering from scratch

Ok, so after - dare I say it? - almost 30 years of buying mostly Toyotas, with one used Ford Probe for a while, it was time to buy an Edge. It had to be ordered because the roof racks are mandatory for us, and I guess the dealers don't order otherwise loaded Limiteds without the vista roof.

Will say goodbye to a great driving 2007 BMW X3, but she's too much a mistress needing attention to run, though run she does.

The Kids think it's funny that someone will "build" the car for us.

Anyway, the order is a week old and in for production starting 10/11. Not bad. Says delivery should be by end of October.

Black on Black Limited with about everything but the adaptive cruise, rear DVD, and vista roof.

How many of you have bought an ESP from another Ford Dealer?

Anyone buy a primed grille and had it painted? How much and who did it?

Congrats on your new order - Hope you like it as much as I like mine. Rev got a primed grill and had it painted blue to match - looks awesome - there are pictures in the 2011 section.

I did. My salesguy gave me his price for the 3 grille insert pieces (purchased as one item) - around $100. The dealer had 'em painted body color prior to BluEdge's delivery. Painting and installing was another $100. Check my sig for pic.

You're ordering black. If you want a matte finish grille, you may be able to swap for a Sport grille. That would mean a Sport would be left without one - or get your chrome. That would be up to you and the dealer.

Wow that's a fast turnaround. I ordered on 8/25 and just heard that my production date is 10/11. I did not opt for ESP I didn't think it was worth it, I'm going stir crazy waiting so it interesting to see how quickly you received a production date after placing a order. Guess my dealer set the priority very low..

That's funny... you joined here a few days before ordering! Good thing the dealer didn't notice, or you'd have lost some bargaining power!

I can't say about the ordering priority. Let's see what really happens, although I <choke on this?> believe him. My biggest stir crazy is that the tires on the trade-in should last, and no one should bump it!

M too.

Yup, I had noticed yours poking around the forum before jumping/joining in. It looks great. $200 or so is a great price. I doubt if anyone ordering a Sport wants to trade grills, but thanks for the idea...... Any one out there wanna trade??

Thanks. Alaska? Is yours AWD? How is it in the snow? After over 15 years with Subaru's and the AWD X3, I'm hoping it's a good system.

No snow on the ground yet to try it out, but yes it is AWD. I have done the sub thing growing up - in fact - my mom, brothers, and I have manage to wear out a few, but I have driven a fwd escort the last 8 years up here and been fine. Looking forward to being able to see over/around snow burms this winter though.

Snow is getting close - I will report as it happens.

Ah, the Termination Dust is falling. What a great feeling in the air. I spent an August many moons ago in Alaska. I had a buddy stationed in the Air Force in Anchorage, lived in Eagle River and had a great visit. We saw termination dust by mid- to late- August. I would love to see the area sometime in full blown winter. Absolutely gorgeous. One of my favorite places.

That is cool - I have lived in Eagle River almost all my life ( my dad is retired airforce and was transfered here in the early 80's) By February I hate it, but whenever I think about moving - I can't think of anywhere as beautiful. I love the mountains.

Ya.. I doubt they could figure out who the forum members are vs the real ppl. I actually purchased with employee pricing so I think I got decent deal. About 5k off msrp.

I too placed my order with my dealer in September and was recently given my VIN and a scheduled production week beginning 10/11. Have you gotten any updates on your cars progress?

FYI- The Sport grille is not matte finish, Its tuxedo black. BTW it would look nice on the Limited and $200 is a good price for paint and install.

Thanks. Will see when it comes in whether to try the matte or finish to match the body.

Funny you should ask today! I was also given a production date of 10/11. The sales guy said it is built and waiting to be loaded. I didn't ask for the VIN. He said he hopes to deliver it by the end of the month. Lucky, because the trade-in's tires are wearing thin! I bet our VIN numbers are close. Keep me posted, and I'll do the same!

I'm waiting on my edge as well. Suppose to be built this week. I just replaced two tires on my 10 year old civic (selling to a family member) I'm around a hour away from the factory (by car) so I'm hoping and wishing that it shows up next week.

I've got an 11 MKX on order. I ordered it Sept 30 (the last day of the sale) and I'm being told it's being built the first week of November. They build them just a few hours away from me. Mine has the 20" wheels which affected the build date due to allotment. It's a go now though. I am excited to get it.

We all are! Was debating the wheels, but had to put on the brakes somewhere.
