  1. As mentioned, the Ford key fob controls remote start too. I've also noticed that window stickers for Canadian vehicles don't list Remote Start. But Remote Start IS listed as a standard feature on the Canadian website so I'm going to assume it's there. I would like to hear some feedback on how well it works.
  2. I'd be most pleased with waiting just 2 months. I ordered my MKX July 17th. As far as I can tell it hasn't even been built yet. The dealer had a hand in the delay, misleading me (aka lying) as to the submitted order date and the order priority. And absolutely useless as far as informing me as to its status. Been using the Cyberman link in the Blue Oval forum to get what little information I do have. But I do have the window sticker to look at!
  3. I'm looking for the 2011 MKX manuals and I'm pretty certain the manuals used to be there.. Now the only ones listed are the Roadside Assistance Card and the Sirius Satellite Radio Information Card. I now see the Edge manuals are all available. Just the MKX ones are missing. That's OK, my MKX is missing too...
  4. Which is fortunate - otherwise any new Edge or MKX would be a target for theives that simply need to grab an SD card for free navigation.
  5. Wonder if someone could give their impression of the engine start/stop feature? I understand that when you take your foot off of the gas the engine shuts off while coasting and restarts when the gas pedal is pushed. Does it work like this or do you have to first put the transmission into neutral? Does the A/C continue to work when the automatic engine shut off activates?
  6. If you want a definitive souce you're going to have to find it yourself. My information is from an interview with one of the primary developers dated about January 2010 on Ford's media com site. I remember it mentioning the hope to move MyFord Touch to a different platform down the road. Flash is a good platform for (relatively) quickly laying out the interface and basic functionality but I don't think it's all that suitable for a production environment. Here's a quote I read on another forum that you might find interesting: "Did you purchase a 2011 model with MyFord (aka Sync 2)? I worked with Ford on the MyFord system, i.e. so-called upgrade of Sync. Ford decided to build this system themselves and managed the entire software project themselves. It was their first foray in a software project of such magnitude, and I speak from first-hand experience when I say the quality of the software is mediocre at best. The system is rolling out to production now and is still full of bugs. MyFord will have you making repeated trips to the dealership for software updates." Time will tell.
  7. I'm still waiting for mine (MyLincoln version) but I know it won't be optimal for responsiveness and I'm certainly not expecting it to be bug-free. This is Ford's first all in-house software development of this scale and the system is built on Flash which can never be made all that responsive. Hopefully down the road they will port it to a more suitable platform. In the meantime I'll be happy if Ford provides timely updates that don't require a dealer visit.
  8. I agree with you. It's a strange American-centric taste that prefers plastic wood, and wood veneer over modern materials. I know there's a lot of Asia manufactured vehicles that have attractive modern interiors for sale in the rest of the world while North America gets this stuff. Fake wood has become so prevalent that even vehicles with real wood (e.g. Lincoln) are unappealing to me. That was the main reason I went with the Limited package in the MKX I've ordered - it comes with "unique aluminium appliques". But I've only had a chance to look at that stuff through a window and it didn't really look all that great either. Oh well....
  9. I'd like to thank you for your report. There isn't a lot of information here on how all this new Ford technology is working for the end user. A few of your points I'd like to address: I have no idea on the web browser issue but if the subject isn't discussed in the owners (or Sync) manual then I suspect the feature doesn't really exist. Or maybe it's one of those features that Canadian customers don't receive. Sync (or MyFord Touch) is built on Flash and it does not provide a fast user interface. I've read that Ford engineers hope to improve the speed with updates but as long as its Flash based, it's never going to be all that snappy. The only way to know if the maps are significantly outdated is to compare coverage with a standalone GPS from Garmin etc. with recent maps. Even the most current NavTech (is that the supplier to Ford?) maps can be missing a lot of existing roads if they've never been reported to them. Regarding the imperial voice directions with the metric navigation settings, does it also do this when your system is set to English? Either way, that is really sloppy programming.
  10. As far as I know you need the VIN in order to track anything. But in my case, I've had the VIN for over a week now and still get the "not found in our system" message from http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=
  11. This is isn't overly surprising in that in my experience dealerships (and sometimes the manufacturer) will allways attempt to take the easiest/cheapest way out of a warranty coverage issue. A lot depends on how loud the customer yells - sometimes, literally. Obviously that is a part that is covered under warranty unless they can show that you caused it to fail. Do you have another dealer you can go to? And they should be making any warranty repairs equivalent to factory standards; splicing this part instead of replacing it is not doing so. Btw, I'm assuming that by replying to his topic, it's going to re-appear in the forum...
  12. I suspect the web site administrators have set the topics in this sub-forum to expire from view after a day or two.of no new entries. I have no idea why they would do that or why no one here seems to care.
  13. That's aluminium trim on his MKX Limited edition. It's also what I ordered however at the time I wasn't able to see what it looked like. Now that I've glanced through the window of a Limited model it looks a bit garish to me. Also on the MKX, the wood package is real wood. Fake wood (plastiwood) is so prevalent these days that I wanted to avoid even the real wood in the MKX - hence the choice of "unique aluminium trim". Maybe a bit too unique though.
  14. It's an obvious cost saving measure that has inconvienced a generation of car buyers. Though I'm aware of a few manufacturers moving back to the traditional hinged hoods. Hydralic lifts that can reliably support a hood at very cold temperatures would be pretty expensive I imagine.
  15. Shredder, did the dealer or Ford express a particular interest in the broken hood support rod? Sounds like this could be a definite safety hazard if it's a widespread defect and logically a hood support rod would be the same in large numbers of vehicles. Any pictures of the broken part?
  16. Lots of hype out there regarding the Sony system on the Edge but who is it that makes the 14 speaker THXII certified audio system on the new MKX?
  17. I wonder if there's anything that I can do with a VIN for my Canadian order of a MKX? My dealer has been essentially useless in regards to keeping me posted as to build date, etc (and has even lied to me in terms of telling me my order would receive highest priority and would be placed as part of their first dealer allotment - meanwhile, there's a new MKX sitting on their lot waiting for another customer to pickup. No big deal as I'm not in a huge hurry but I hate being taken for a sucker.) My saleman did tell me I had a build date of 08/26 and gave me a copy of the DORA (Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement). Two dates on that are the order receipt date (07/27 - 10 days after the dealer told me they placed the order) and the DORA processed date of 08/26. No mention of a build date and I am certain the saleman mistook the DORA date for a build date (only been selling Fords for 20+ years but anyways...). But I do have the VIN - but it still shows up on the http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin= site as not found in their system. Should that website (if it works for Canadian orders) tell me the build date? BTW, does the VIN display "Ohs" or zeros as the 13th character? I've tried both... Thanks.
  18. I assume it has to do with those (IMO ridiculous) 22" wheels and ultra-low profile tires. You get the "spor"t appearance along with greatly increased risk of road damage and very limited load carrying capacity. That said I'm sure you can (eventually) find an after-market trailer for the sport.
