Congrats on your new ride!!
-
I've only got 4800km on mine but have my Amsoil synthetic oil and this filter by WIX ready to go: http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=57502

Wow, that's bizarre! Other than pulling the flash card and putting it back in, don't know what else to suggest other than going back to the dealer. Good luck.

Purchasing two new vehicles from Ford
richy replied to butterwm's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
The Edge and Explorer look great in white sitting there together!! -
My MKX has orange peel but not very much. It really has to be seen at a correct angle and in good light to see it. The flake is so overpowering that it is hard to see the OP.

If you don't rear-end someone playing with all that crap, I'll eat my hat. At least the MLT system can do the vast majority by voice. Only seat and steering wheel heaters necessitate a tactile push. I hope they can change that too.

Go to Home Depot and get some Zep Purple Degreaser. Buy one of their gray chemical resistant sprayers and mix it 4:1 (4 parts water, one part product). It's about $12/gallon. Wet tires, spray on liberally and scrub with a brush. Use a power washer if you have one. Zep purple is strong stuff and should do it. If not, it may be a solvent based product. Get some prepsol and pour it on a rag and wipe it on the tires. Finish with the Zep steps as outlined above. That should do it for you.

I think that's the auto unlock feature found in the vehicle section on the left hand small screen. I have mine disabled.

Ask A Professional Detailer?
richy replied to CanuckG35's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
What do you ride? As you can see from my Avatar, I was a bike cop (for 7 years). I also have a 2000 Intruder 1400 that I've had since new. If you truly want the best protection money can buy, look at Optimum's new consumer version of Opti Coat or CarPro's CQuartz. Both are available at Autogeek.net. Search youtube for videos on these products, they are unreal. I have been using/testing both since the summer when they came out. -
They are similar products that are a nano glass coating for the paint, glass and trim. Unlike some of the bullshit dealer products that claim to last that long (but are full of disclaimers), these products are the real deal. I have been testing them since the summer. My MKX went through the winter with no problem with the CQ coating. My Infiniti that is now owned by my next door neighbour, looks amazing too as well. He laughs that his 7 year old Infiniti looks better than his brand new Lexus (he's having me do it when the weather breaks). Autogeek just started carrying both products. They lock in your paint in whatever condition it is, so you need to polish it to your standard and then apply. The paint needs to be prepped properly with a rubbing alcohol/alkaline mix and then you're good to go. This is absolutely the future in paint protection....cutting edge stuff for sure. Check out live2detail.com for a lot more information on both products.

Congrats on your new ride!!

I have had the same stains on my MKX too. P21s metal soap polish did not get rid of them. It took Collinite Metal polish and a mf to do it.

Those are valid points. Makes me glad I've got my Cquartz on my paint. Optimum just released their consumer version of Opti Coat too..that's good news!

Sirius quality not woth the money...
richy replied to Victor Wolansky's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Negotiating with Sirius is great advice. Look carefully at lifetime subscriptions, they are transferrable to another car too. -
AXCL, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this. I've been away for a few weeks. I help run a detailing forum called Live2detail.com It is owned by a Canadian out of Calgary. Several of us on there have been testing both the Cquartz as well as the Opti Coat. This is COMPLETELY different technology than sealants and waxes. I have been detailing for 30 years and have played with tons of different products over the years. I also do beta testing for a company as well. I have it on my MKX (I did a thread on it here) as well as on my 2004 FX35 that I sold to get my MKX. This stuff is the real deal. Yes, your paint must be perfect before application and cleaing the paint with IRA/Dawn mix is crucial as well. There is a ton of info on the site about both these products. You'll love the site...I have the same user name on there as well. Hope that helps and hope to see you there.

As far as your seat goes, do a search on here for squeaky seat. I remember reading a multiple page thread on the subject where someone DID figure out a permanent fix for it. You're right, it has to do with the seatbelt. Sorry, but I don't remember what the fix was off the top of my head. I read it about 5 to 6 weeks ago. As far as your brakes go, yes, light surface rust will form very quickly but the calipers burn it off on the first application. I agree it sounds terrible, especially at low speeds. I, too, have had many cars that did that. The only solution is to liberally apply vaseline to the rotor......KIDDING!!! Don't do that! Seriously, it's one of those things you just learn to live with. You're lucky if you did not experience that on your other car(s).

Now you're talking. I was disappointed in 2 things when looking at the MKX. #1 the lack of the 3.5 EB engine (the drivetrain supposedly can't take the power) and #2 the lack of 22" wheels. Probably comes down to what their marketing geeks think the target audience is and what would sell. They are wrong if they don't think it would sell. At least IMHO. I would have gladly paid the premium. Oh well. <shrug>

Screen Protectors for the Navigation
richy replied to INTERAVE's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I honestly don't think putting a screen protector on there is going to eliminate finger prints. The advantage is that you don't have to worry about the surface when cleaning it. I put a sealant on mine and spray either glass cleaner or a different mild cleaner directly onto a mf and clean the surface. It does a great job. I have a screen protector on my i4 and it gets finger prints on it just like before I installed the protector. For the phone, I wanted a degree of scratch protection to it. I got one from Zagg. I don't know if they make one for screens but they probably do. -
Finger prints on Nav screen.
richy replied to trainerdude's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I would suggest some Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol on a mf. That should clean any residue on there from previous chemicals. If the screen does not look cloudy or otherwise altered, I really doubt that the prints are there permanently. Let me know if the IRA works. -
It could be either salt as you say or maybe wax. Either way, use a strong alkaline cleaner on it and then an easy way to dress it is to apply tire gel with an applicator pad. Something like Megs Endurance gel will last a good while and will blacken it up nicely if you don't want to go the route of ordering something online.

If you have access to a steamer, wrap a white cotton terry towel around the head. Spray the area with a mild APC (Never use Woolite or a Magic Eraser on leather) and then go over it with the steamer. The towel will absorb the stain. Ultima makes a leather conditioner that has great protection to it as does Optimum.

Congrats on your new purchase. Great timing with the price of gas lately too. Thanks for your service; as in my country, you guys don't get enough credit for what you do!!
