    MISFIRE

My 2007 Edge sometimes misfires. It is quite random. Code tells me there is a missfire in cylinder No. 5. Dealer said I needed new coils and plugs. I changed out the plugs and replaced all the coils. This effort and expense did not cure the misfire. Using "logic" I changed out the fuel injector for cylinder No. 5. This did not cure the misfire. It is assumed the cylinder No. 5 is the center cylinder located in the forward bank of cylinders. I have run out of ideas. The vehicle has about 170,000 miles on the clock and runs great, otherwise. Any suggestions?
  3. I do have an extra single DIN MEX-DV2000 multi-channel SACD/Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM Sony radio I could sell you. It also accepts the optional HD radio adapter. You can find one for a good price on ebay. It sports the best AM and FM sections in the industry. If you have any interest let me know.
  4. Sony pulled the plug on this and its other multi-channel car products. Good old Sony.
  5. I just installed a Sony ASWC-1 Multi-channel SACD/DD/DTS player with a 7" screen in my 07 Edge. Superb sound, and I have well over 100 multi-channel SACD and DVD-A disks and a few high resolution PCM stereo disks. It plays the DD or DTS tracks on the DVD-A disks just fine. This receiver sounds so much better than the junk 6 disk changer that Ford selected as the OEM unit it is hard to believe. I have stock speakers including the powered sub. It also plays video DVD's including my collection of multi-channel concert videos. Only thing it won't play are the new Blu-ray audio disks. Only issue is that the speed signal sent to the radio turns the volume down too far and too often. I am told I should have turned that off with the OEM unit first but my OEM unit died. Guess I have to take it in to a Ford Dealer, gerrrrrrr. By the way, the backup camera works fine with this had to find player.
  6. The new harness comes with a computer that need to recycle to fix its settings.
  7. Based upon detailed information posted elsewhere on this forum I fixed my transfer case problem for about $150.00. My mechanic drilled a hole in the bottom of the case. We drained out the old fluid (very little came out, 145,000 miles). We cleaned the top of the case with solvent since it was covered in thickened grease/fluid. We ran kerosene through the case 2 times, than we ran Mobil 1 gear oil through it twice. it now does not drop grease on the floor and it works like new. Don't know why Ford would not recommend this procedure.
  8. Shocks start to lose fluid past the bushing from the day they are put into use. A small amount of fluid discovered past the bushing is no cause for alarm. On the other hand, if the shock is making noise, or no longer dampens the motion of the wheel and tire, it is time for a quality replacement. Ford offers a specific shock for each of the tire combinations it offers. No mono-tube shock such as the Bilstein is offered for the Edge. At 140,000 miles my shocks and struts are still going strong. Spraying oil outside a shock is a traditional form of deception used by dishonest service stations.
  9. Dealer just reported it is a broken sensor ring. But Ford does not sell a replacement ring so you have to purchase a new axel.
  10. The code reader I used (from AutoZone) expressly said that the left front sensor was not being read. Some code readers translate the code into a description of the code.
  11. The shop manual has detailed instructions on how to setup the switch before one performs the replacement to make sure it is not bent out of position. Did you read those instructions first?
  12. Related issue. My ABS/service/stability control lights come on once in a while. Code said to change out the left sensor. I put in a new OEM sensor but it did not solve the problem. One day the lights are on then later during the drive the lights go off. Any suggestions?
  13. Are you asking about the amber reflectors or the silver reflectors?
  14. The fluid in the transfer case should be changed out. I drilled out and tapped a whole at the bottom and found it had changed to a sludge and very little was left. I flushed it out and installed Mobil 1 gear oil.
  15. Can't say I would buy it for the looks. The trend toward huge wheels must stop. They adversely harm the ride and performance and weigh a ton. I like my 07 Edge and want much better fuel economy when I step up to find a replacement.
  16. Give more details. Ford uses different shocks to match the mass of different wheel/tire combinations. I have found few Ford Edge rear shocks that need replacement. Great shocks like mono-tube Bilsteins and KYB shocks are not available for the Edge.
  17. Look for slotted rotors on ebay. I picked up several pairs and they are first rate and very very cost effective.
  18. I can report that after 5,000 miles that the repair I outlined above worked. No sign of a leak. The fluid will be changed out again next Summer and then every 2 years, just to play it safe.
  19. Thanks to this site I confirmed that my PTU's vent was clogged and spilling out thick dirty fluid onto the floor under my 07 Edge. There was no sign of fluid leaking past the axel seals. We drilled a hole in the bottom of the PTU and only about 4 oz. of thick dirty fluid came out. We then flushed the system out with a series of kerosene, then motor oil then 90W-140 Mobil 1 gear lube. One source said it takes 18 oz. another said 12 oz. Clearly it can't take 18 oz. since it starts to overfill at about 16 oz. We settled on about 14 oz. After two days I can report that the leak of fluid onto the floor has stopped! Thanks guys for your guidance. With the loss of fluid I would have destroyed my PTU in a few thousand more miles. By the way, if seals are needed, Ford provides two revised kits. You will need both. They ran me about $100.00 and was glad to return them since the above fix worked without the need for new seals or bearings, etc.
  20. At 112,000 miles I discovered a drip of thick lube under my car where the PTU is located. My mechanic and I discovered that it was coming out of the top of the PTU's vent. As per instructions printed on this site we drilled a drain hole at the bottom of the PTU and ran a sequence of motor oil and kerosene through the unit 5 times and blew air through the drain hole after we saturated the outside top of the vent with carb cleaner. We then ran Mobil 1 75W 140 through it twice. As part of each flush we ran the motor in gear, up on the lift, up to about 80 mph for about 30 sec. It took about 3 hours and cost me about $225.00, including the lube and the kerosene. It took about 12-14 oz. of lube. I think I will change it out every year from now on.
  21. They fit but because the tail lights are controlled by a computer you cannot easily use the amber segment or two red bulbs for every function because that will cause the red turn segment to flash too fast.
  22. No Bilstein or KYB mono-tube shocks are available for the Edge. This is sad.
  23. Not all CDs include text information. All SACD disks and DVD-Audio disks do. Since it is easy and there is usually lots of room on the disk for text information I don't know why it is not universal. But: not all players can make use of this information, even though it is likely that the chip sets already have this feature. Perhaps there is an extra license fee. (But the Sony license has expired so there is not license fee for producing a CD any longer.
