    spark plugs

Dual plats are called for in a motor that alternates the firing of some plugs from from one electrode to another (anode to cathode, and then cathode to anode). Many Chrysler motors sport this "feature". The fine wire is typically used in a plug that sports iridioum instead of platinum in the center electrode. Some even sport plat on the other electrode. In my opinion, any plug of the proper temperature range, resistance, length and gap should provide the same fuel economy, at least initially. Plat and iridioum simply last longer in today's electronic ignition systems.
  2. If you top it off very slowly in an effort to put in as much fuel as possible you run the risk of adding fuel to your vapor removal system and not into your tank. This can result in an expensive repair down the road. I do not have personal experience with this but I have read that this may be a real risk.
  3. The high beam version has significantly higher output! I can't explain why you can't see the difference.
  4. I have pushed several mono-tube shock companies to release a part for the Edge, but they have shown no interest in providing parts . For some reason the Edge has not gotten the attention of the major parts suppliers to offer performance parts.
  5. "1) Separate the front turn signal/parking lamp by add a white 5W bulb as the parking to the headlight and move the wire from the turn signal. " Could you provide more detail to how this is accomplished? "One last addition I made was to purchase a MAX Energy power programmer from Hypertech to improve the fuel economy from running european standard 95 E fuel which is equal to US 92/93." Who made you purchase this device and what is its purpose? Richard
  6. The passenger side dash had a few marks on it from some new copper pipe. So I took out a rag and some leather cleaner and started to scrub out the marks. Next thing I found is that the nice dash finish is only surface deep; color and all. Now the areas I scrubbed with the rag are darker, with the surface color removed in some spots. It is a 2007 Edge. Other than purchasing a new dash, is there another approach that would restore the look to this surface? (Can't wait for the wife to find out). Richard
  7. A rear Fog Light. Dark tint on the top of the windshield. SACD and DVD-A multi-channel sound with HD radio. Better fuel economy. 16 Inch wheels to provide greater tire selection a possiblity. Side repeater lights. Just trying to perfect a great vehicle!
  8. Don't forget, Ford got cheap and does not offer a top tinted windshield. When my windshield cracked, all the tea in China could not buy this feature from any glass vender.
  9. The bulb holder can be a bear. But it is held in place by three torx screws that are relatively easy to remove to get a stuck bulb out.
  10. Or just add a converter box used to tow a trailer. Converters are available in the States to allow a red rear turn system in a car to work with an amber rear turn system in the trailer.
  11. I too recently picked up an 07 Edge displaying exactly the same issue. Soon thereafter the front window had to be replaced. The shop did not replace the strip and actually left small fragments still attached to the edge of the dash adjacent to the new window. I removed the fragments and all is now OK. I don't know what the issue is with this Ford part and I have decided to just let it be. This, and the need to replace the brake vacum booster are the only issues I have run into so far, (about 7,000 miles).
  12. Ford and other makes screwed themselves by this move to unique size tires and very large wheels. The tire venders could not supply enough of these uniques sizes and so Ford actually had to cut back production of certain models at the very time that they could have picked up salse due to the loss of product from Japan. These unique tire sizes limit our choices when it comes to replacement tires and the the price seems to reflect that fact. Good old 16 inch wheels in a standard size might not look as cool but the benefits are obvious; lower cost, greater consumer choice, better ride, better performance, far less weight. With the demands for better fuel economy coming fast, one would think that the days of these very heavy tire/wheel combinations are limited. Richard
  13. No. An LT tire is built to take a lot more pressure than a P tire. This is so that it can be fitted in a vehicle that requires a higher load rated tire with higher tire pressure. If you don't need a higher load capacity there are a number of P rated tires that will give you better performance overall. The real problem is that auto companies have decided to fit their vehicles with very large wheels (18 and above) in odd sizes. Thus the production numbers of these tires are limited, and the selection is these odd sizes is very restricted. Some vehicles had to be cut back in production because there are not enough of these odd sized tires to go around. Ford does not do its customers any favor with these odd sized tire decisions. But a trend is a trend.
  14. From my experience and from reading up on this subject, slotted and drilled rotors offer only two advantages. 1. They weigh less and 2. They look cool. But their reduced mass actually makes them less competent as a brake component. There is a good reason why you don't see these on race cars. I find the OEM rotors are up to the job and replacing the stock pads with high end Bendix ceramic pads will better the performance of stock Ford pads for every day use.
  15. My 07's booster went at about 65,000 miles. I picked up a new one at the Ford dealer for under $120 and some new brake fluid. I changed it out myself. I am not a skilled mechanic, but it took less than 1 1/2 hours. Just how could they even think of charging anything close to $580 for this rather simple job. Yes, clearing the area to pull it took some effort and reaching under the steering wheel was a pain, but give me a brake,
  16. Ford need to revisit its controls across the board. Even my 07 Edge has confusing controls, from the high beam/low beam stick to the small and to numerious steering wheel buttons bunched too close together. They take your attention away from the road. Other makes do these controls much better. But at least it has buttons, something eliminated with the latest Ford technology.
  17. Even the EPA has issued a report that claims that a new air filter will improve fuel economy is false, yet the claims persist.
  18. I was surprised to find that no one makes an upper tinted windshield for the Edge.
  19. Currently there are no replacement LED bulbs for automobiles that are suitable for road use; none. On the marine side of the story there are a number of quality venders offering name brand replacement bulbs that work as suitable replacements for filiment bulbs. On a sail boat the proper selection of the LED bulb results in equal light output at the needed angles, appropriate color temperature, great resistance to water. Since they draw far less current they are a boon when on battery power, and don't burn out like a filiment bulbs when a wave sweaps over the boat they have attracted a strong market. The current LED replacements for cars are not capable of meeting minimum lighting standards, are often of the wrong color temperature, and lack basic circuit protection offered in some of the better marine products. Good marine LED's are expensive and come from reliable venders with specs that show that they meet Coast Guard standards for marine lighting. All the technical information you would like to know about 12 volt LED lighting technology is posted on http://www.bebi-electronics.com/regulator.html. A web site and LED light builder located on the Figi Islands by former NASA scientists that are into Blue Water Sailing. The site is a good read.
  20. If you heat up the motor before you try to pull the plugs it is far less likely that the threads will rip the head and require an insert fix. I have not read about this being a problem with the 07 Edge.
  21. If we are limiting our conversation to HID light output consistant with North American legal limits (Europe allows slightly brighter HID's), and the output of H9's and HIR bulbs (9011), then the difference in output levels is not that great. The major difference is that most HID's are cooler in color temperature. This gives many the perception that they greatly improve visibility. This is a false impression, but one the industry is willing to feed to make money. In the Edge housings prior to 2011 the H9 and HIR combination is a superb solution if you want more light output, they focus to perfection and do not cause glare to opposing drivers. I have not played around with a 2011 Edge housing yet, but expect that HID is not the way to go there either, unless and untill a major lighting vender comes out with a complying conversion kit. Early in the game one of the majors did put out such a kit but quickly removed it from the market since such kits simply do not work properly in a reflector housing. The sale of such kits for street use is illegal. The installation by a service center of such kits is also illegal in many if not most states.
  22. I have an 07 with the Big Ass Sunroof and all wheel dirve in that color. Two things to look into. 1. The brake booster. These tend to fail. Press down hard on the brakes with the car running and check for a loud high pitch sound. Cost about $150 if you do it yourself or around $400 if you farm it out. 2.The rear power transfer case sometimes develops a leak. Have this part inspected since the repair is a bit costly. There may be some dealer/Ford support available but I don't know the details. There are no other widespread issues. The brakes are actually just fine. Early vehicles used for some reviews had inferior rotors and calipers that were upgraded as production went into full swing during the 07 production year. Check to see if it is equiped with vented rotors in the front with dual piston calipers.
  23. H9 and HIR bulb conversions are much easier, provide about the same level of improvement, cost less and focus properly, and can retain the DRL function. So tell me, why install illegal HID's which cannot focus properly in an Edge fixture?
  24. They look like they are throwing way too much light in the near foreground. This is bad for visibility because the eyes tend to lose their ability to see far into the dark where the danger may be located but not preceived by the driver. This is why vehicle lighting is a science and why the retro fit of HID bulbs into a fixture for which they are not intended is a very very bad idea. Yes, it looks cool, and yes it feels nice to light up the near foreground, but it may not be an improvement. Other bulbs will give you greater light output and focus properly in your fixture. There is much written about this subject and every lighting expert urges vehicle owners not to go with the HID retrofit. The sale of such bulbs for retrofit, for street use, is illegal, by the way.
  25. Try bleading the brakes again. A new master cylinder from Rock Auto is not all that expensive and is not all that had to change out yourself if the problem is not resolved by the blead. After changing the master cylinder you should bleed the brakes twice.
