  1. Both a coated bulbs with REDUCED output and a short lifespan. The switch to an H9 bulb is the way to go if you want truly superior lighting from a bulb that will work in the housing with accurate focus (something that cannot be said for the illegal HID conversion kits agressively pushed here and on the internet.)
  2. In response to the CU report Ford is introducing a training program for its dealers since it was found that the sales people did not know how to show customers how the control system worked. There will also be enhanced training for new buyers.
  3. "Can anyone say from experience that there is no danger using H9 in place of H11?" Yes, I did this switch as soon as I picked up my 2007 Edge and it was a superb upgrade. They are designed to focus in the stock headlight. Narva is the quality brand to go with. Richard
  4. Why do you not just replace the end clamp? This can be very easy to do and costs a lot less. Any good mechanic would be glad to do this for you.
  5. "you must be referring to H9 bulbs, and not only are they marginally more luminous, they are no way near twice as bright unless you are running higher wattage bulbs. The pitfall is a general half the lifespan in comparison for only 18% increase in wattage and lack of masking on the bulb envelope." The pre-2011 Edges used H11 bulbs for the low beam that used 50 watts and put out 1200 lumens. My recommendation is to switch to away from the OEM H11 bulbs for that function is the new and hard to find H9 bulb which used 65 watts and puts out 2100 lumens. This is almost twice the output at a far lower price than a HID low beam conversion which does not conform to approved lighting standards in North America or Europe or Asia, no matter what any vender says to the contrary. The lack of a painted end masking on the H9 is not an issue since the Edge's OEM housing is fully shielded to prevent glare. :shades: The 9012 bulb is a low beam HIR technology bulb putting out 1870 lumens. This is a superb bulb. If it is not bright enough for a 2011 Edge owner it can be upgraded to a 9011 HIR bulb putting out 2350 lumens, the highest output bulb out there that uses only 65 watts and that has a reasonably long life. It has the exact same filament position as the 9012 bulb so that it is in perfect focus in the Ford Edge housing. So why the massive marketing and buyer attraction of illegal HID kits of questionable function? Beats me.
  6. The best lighting solution for the Edge (in my opinion) is to substitute H9 bulbs for the low output H11's. Cheap enough and it is designed for the housing so the focus is not altered. Just a minor modification to one of the bulb tabs is needed for the H9's to fit. About 90% brighter. Substitute HIR 9011 bulbs for the low output 9005's. Again, cheap enough and it is designed for the housing so the foucs is not altered. Just a minor modification of one of the bulb tabs is needed for the 9011's to fit. About 75% brighter. Almost as bright as properly enginered HID's, cost effective, great color temperature, and will not increase glare to other drivers. Both H9's and 9011's can be found with an internet search since most local parts stores don't carry these bulbs. Richard
  7. With modern computer controled motors a so called performance exhaust or intake is likely to provide little if any performance gain. It can look and sound different, but don't expect a performance boost. Superior shocks and brake components are just not out there for the Edge, especially the 2011 Sport version.
  8. :stop: Are those not instructions for interior ambiant lights?
  9. Perhaps I'm dull witted, but on the Town & Country the radio controls are on the back of the steering wheel, and the controls are large oblong buttons. On the front of the steering wheel are the cruse control buttons, and they are large oblong buttons. On the 2007 edge all the buttons are grouped together on the front of the steering wheel and are quite small. It is not easy for me to find the right button to push to put on the cruse or to raise or lower its speed setting without looking. Larger buttons, different shapes and colors and lights, and some seperation would make life a lot easier for me. Sure there are steering wheels to control the radio station scan, but it does not work for Sirius station scanning. Just a dumb design in my opinion. If Ford gave a dam it would have been properly designed before the 2007's left the design studio. My friend's BMW 7 series is even worse, he has two PhD's and can't figure out how to control all the settings. Thank goodness he has a 15 year old son who can figure this out for him .
  10. I don't have nav. I guess I am spoiled by the steering wheel controls for the cruse and radio on my Town & Country Limited. Much more intutive and you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
  11. My Touch was the reason. The steering wheel controls on my 2007 Edge are too close together. There is no reason I should have to turn on the cruse control each time I start the vehicle. The buttons are too small. The radio controls do not function in a useful way with the Sirius radio. On my BMW I can control the dash display with a simple push at the end of my turn signal stalk; switch from outside temp, mpg, etc. Very easy and you keep your eyes on the road. With the Edge you have to look at the center stack to find the info button, etc. I would not say this is a deal breaker at all, just that Ford can do better.
  12. CU did not place the Edge on the "not recommended" list; it just did not recommend the two Ford products tested because of the control issue imposed by the current state of "my touch". Many of the comments posted on this forum blasted the current state of development of my touch. It can be fixed by Ford with continuing updates. All and all, I found the CU report to be spot on. I even find the manual controls on my 2007 Ford Edge SEL+ to be a bit hard to use without pulling my eyes away from the road. I contrast this with my Chrysler Town & Country Limited where I can control the radio and cruse control at the steering wheel without any need to pull my eyes from the road. It can be done and Ford should do it :stats: .
  13. Based upon the photo published earlier it looks like the HID bulbs are not ideal for this application in that the scatter is unreasonable and the high beam pattern is way out of compliance with any existing standard for uniformity and shape. It all looks like the point of light in the bulb is not properly located. Perhaps this is why such conversions are not recommended by anyone in the lighting industry. My 2007 has H09 bulbs in place of the H11's for the low beam. Twice as bright and in perfect focus. For the high beams I have HIR 9011's, again, twice as bright as the Ford supplied 9005's and in perfect focus. A far better solution than HID's in a housing not designed for them.
  14. The official Ford Edge site has a coupon for the Premium Motorcraft wipers at $20 a pair. :hyper: My dealer had to order them since they only stock the non-premium set. Richard
  15. The congress under the former administration forced the 15% issue upon us. The current administration was forced by that law to adopt an implementing regulation. This new regulation requires each station to have a seperate tank and pump and dispenser for 15%. I know of few if any stations that will invest the money to allow them to sell 15%. Is not politics interesting? :stats:

    3.5L Mods???

My experience is that most performance changes sold to the public for a motor are snake oil, including air filters, spark plugs, etc. Now if Ford would offer a Direct Fuel Injection modification that we could afford; that would provide both more power and better fuel economy. But Ford has been late to the show with real changes. The new 4 cylinder motor that will be released soon for the Edge sports both Direct Fuel Injection and a single Turbo Charger. As fuel economy standards start to tighten up that approach will become more common. But the expense of converting our beautiful motor to accept Direct Fuel Injection would be cost prohibitive. I predict that Ford is working on a dual turbo version of the 4 and a significant weight reduction across the line to meet the new fuel economy standards. Say goodby to 22 inch wheels. (not a bad thing to lose in my opinion. What someone should offer to owners of pre 2011 Edges is the brake upgrade and suspension upgrade in kit form that Ford introduced to address braking issues across the board in 2011 Edges.
  17. If your radios is already equiped for SIRUS/XM radio you can purchase an adapter and a receiver from Ford; but it is quite expensive.
  18. For the most part, FM stations are importing music from national services for the HD music channels, and that music is relatively low bit rate MP3. To add to that, if the station is broadcasting more than one HD channel, the broadcast digital bit rate is further reduced. Considering all of this, the music sounds better than perhaps it should.
  19. My neighbor used to represent a major radio manufacurer in its efforts to sell units to the big 4. They, (the car companies) wanted to see and test the exact unit they would need 5 to 6 years down the road and would not accept any changes after the selection. His client told him that they did not even know what they would build in 12 months, since advances came along fast in their industry. Needless to say he never got an order for his client. This might explain why advances such as digital AM and FM radio, have taken so long to show up on the option or standard equiptment list from some venders. Richard
  20. The low output lowbeam H11 bulbs can be replaced with high output H9 bulbs. The H9 bulbs need minor modifications to their base to fit, but it is not all that hard. I now have superb lighting from my lowbeams. The 9005 highbeam bulb can also be replaced. The best recommendation is the HIR 9011 bulb, it offers about 50% more output. Both of these suggested changes focus properly and do not place too high a current load on the current wiring.
  21. Sub has its own amp. I would start by checking if there is a power issue concerning the connection to that amp.
  22. Just purchased a 2007 Edge and found the low beam lights way too dim. From the Stern Lighting web site I learned that the H11 low beam bulbs could be replaced with the much brighter H9 bulbs with just a minor modification to the H9 bulb mount. All I can say is that the difference is like day and night. I have also ordered a pair of 9011 bulbs. These are about 50% brighter than the OEM 9005 bulbs and do not draw any more current. I'll report back on how they work in this application when they are installed. Both are far superior to HID bulbs being placed in the Ford supplied headlight unit since the H9 and 9011 bulbs focus perfectly in the OEM headlight unit, the HID light bulbs are just not designed to work properly in these units.
