    timing belt

Not belt driven. There are no belts inside the engine that need to be changed - only the accessory serpentine belt needs replacing periodically. Timing is either a chain or direct gears.
  3. It's typically held on with a few perimeter screws plus one in the bottom of the door handle well and one behind the door pull itself and the rest just pop off. It's better to get a trim removal tool which is plastic and fits between the door frame and door panel and applies equal pressure.
  4. My guess would be the smart junction box. I think the dealer can reset it, otherwise it might need to be replaced.
  5. No, it's not that simple. It's all computer controlled now - probably from the smart junction box.

    timing belt

What makes you think the Edge uses a timing belt?
  7. The ECU uses the MAF (mass air flow) sensor to determine how much air is entering the engine and adjusts the fuel accordingly. Therefore it doesn't matter what type of air filter you use - it compensates. What's happening is your MAF readings are different than stock so the ECU thinks you're getting more air than you really are and it's adding to much fuel and the O2 sensor is reading a rich condition. Your MAF sensor is not functioning properly in the new intake.
  8. Nope. It's under the dash near the brake pedal.
  9. Same basic engine. Different orientation. Mustang is longitudinal, Edge is transverse. All of the plumbing and connections are different. You might be able to make it work but you're better off with a tested kit for the Edge.
  10. Depends on what type of deal you made with the dealer. Typically you would get the additional $750 if that wasn't part of the original price. There is no guarantee you'll get another $750 offer.
  11. Exactly. The OP specifically asked for opinions so that's what he/she got.
  12. The info in post 23 came from a dealer. It's possible they've been updated since then but those dates don't usually change this late unless there are material issues. If a dealer can quote you those dates specifically then they're probably accurate. But if the dealer is just making random comments about this date being moved or that date being moved then they're probably just guessing.
  13. It never hurts to have more CCA (cold cranking amps) but if it goes bad then it won't really matter. If it's only a few bucks it won't hurt but I wouldn't spend a lot more. If you need more than 540 CCAs then something is wrong.
  14. The MFT update is due end of January assuming no major problems occur in beta testing. You'll also get a new SD card with new nav maps. Sounds like you won't be happy with anything but a Chevy regardless.
  15. Hideous. You asked......
  16. The answer to a question nobody should be asking.
  17. Yes and Yes. But does your portable GPS have a 8" screen with integrated voice control?
  18. History and all of your symptoms. It's possible it's the alternator but I'd say the odds are 90/10 in favor of the battery. And the battery is cheaper and faster to replace. The alternator should also be very easy to test.
  19. It's both a learning curve issue and software problems with a few hardware problems thrown in for good measure. The new software due out in the next month or so should fix both the software problems and the usability issues (to a point - this is still a high tech interface). If you can use a smartphone you shouldn't have any problems with usability. It's standard on the limited and optional on the SEL.
  20. It's the battery. In the South we rarely get more than 3 years out of a battery. Yours is close to 5 years old. Replace it.
  21. Ford dealers don't do "power flushes" of the transmission. They simply use the cooler lines and let the transmission pump the old fluid out and the new fluid in. It won't hurt anything more than normal operation. Changing engine oil at 3K miles is ridiculous and a waste of good oil.
  22. The HD Radio in my daughter's Focus seems to work just as well as FM. Of course the quality depends on the broadcasters, just like HDTV in the early days (and yes, I understand that HD radio is not High Definition). Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. I'll leave the info here but I'm locking the thread. Don't open any more.
