Honestly I don't think most people look at any type of review - they just go to the dealership and buy what they see. I'm sure there have been lost sales due to MFT but I don't see where that could be avoided. The best solution is for the new ones to be trouble free and then it won't matter.

Pull fuse 29 to reset it and wait for the new software.

The owner of this website has decided to institute a minimal charge for vendors advertising on the website. If you'd like to advertise please PM me and I'll give you the contact information. TroyWalls - I had to delete your post because of this and you aren't allowing PMs so this is the only way I could contact you.

It means one coupon/rebate per vehicle. You can use one on each new vehicle no problem.

Ordered a 2012...not going to get it.

You could check with another dealer - they may be able to find the vehicle you want with a tow package. Sometimes the dealers don't always do a thorough search. -
Factory paint sealants/protectants on 2011+ vehicles
akirby replied to JOYRIDER's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
The bottom line is that IF you want some type of paint protection then now is the time to do it. "Sealants" and "polymers" are supposed to last longer than carnauba wax but that's really a personal preference that depends on how often you want to apply it and what it looks like. But there is certainly nothing wrong with a sealant if you want that type of paint protection. But it will probably only last 6 months to 1 year at the most, sometimes less. -

The dealer should not have waited 3 weeks to tell you that. You can always have them look for one in stock somewhere that's close to what you wanted if you really want a 2012. -
My Speaker Upgrade Install
akirby replied to Lex Talionis's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yep. Inside, just like stock. -
That's hogwash and is likely based on the older truck based SUVs. There is basically no difference between an Edge and a Fusion other than ride height and cosmetics/styling. No reason a modern car or crossover won't make 200K with regular maintenance.

I used 5.25s in my Fusion but I've heard of several people using 6.5s. -
ford key programmer
akirby replied to surferd15's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Local or internet Ford dealer, Ebay, etc. Get the dealer, home depot or a locksmith to cut it to match and program it yourself. -
Contact the local company who handles the radio repairs for the Ford dealers. They'll know what you need. I believe it requires some type of programming in addition to the hardware.

UK Spec Tail Lights
akirby replied to adamdouglasking's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Sounds like a basic tuner that changes the ECM programming from 87 to 93 which usually involves advancing the timing. Without it you're not getting the benefit of the 93 octane European gas. -
There is enough difference between the 08 and 12 that it wouldn't be like driving the same vehicle, but understand your point. Why not just do a 27 month lease and then decide whether you want the new one or something different?
-
Definitely the dealer. Hopefully they didn't charge you extra for it. Personally I prefer a 78% Nitrogen blend. It's readily available if you know where to look. You can tell if you have it by the black caps. The side benefit is if you're trapped underwater you can breathe it.

It was described by a former Ford transmission engineer but I've never tried it myself. I assumed there was suction on the intake line to pull in the new fluid but I'm not 100% sure. Here is a link (bottom of the page). Sounds like he tried it and it worked. http://www.explorerforum.com/Singleton/web/pages/at1.html

I like Polk, Infinity and Boston Acoustics, but it's really personal preference.

You don't need to drop the pan or change the filter. If the filter is clogged then the tranny is already toast. Dealers use a machine connected to the cooler lines. It pulls old fluid out of the line coming from the tranny and allows it to pull fresh fluid going back to the tranny. This will change at least 95% of the fluid using the tranny's pump (not a power flush). You can do something similar with rubber hoses connected to the cooler lines and 2 5 gallon buckets - one with fresh fluid. Just make sure the new fluid doesn't run dry before all of the old fluid is out. Or just take it to the dealer and not worry about the mess.

It can be dyed and/or painted to match. Find a good detailer.

Buying Edge in US and Bringing into Canada
akirby replied to tp2011edge's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
At a minimum you have to activate DRLs and I believe only the Canadian dealers can do that. I think you can use a Canadian X plan pin in the U.S. but you have to contact plan headquarters to set that up. Incentives are always based on your residence, not where you buy, but I'm not sure how that would work for a Canadian buying a U.S. vehicle. -
Hmm...looks right to me......

Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Ford has already said it was possible just by adding the Nav software. The problem is that right now there is no aftermarket option to purchase the Nav software and have it installed. I expect Ford to start offering this soon. I suspect one of the issues is how to update Ford's database to show that a vehicle that was purchased without Nav now has Nav so that future factory MFT updates include the right software. The rest should be easy. All they'd really have to do is sell a thumb drive with an activation code that installs the nav software and the SD map card. -

Care to elaborate or would that violate the fifth amendment? -
I was only being a little snarky. I was wondering if the OP just assumed he had to change a timing belt or if someone else told him/her that. Either way, there is no timing belt.
