  1. Normally wouldn't be expecting much from an SUV but when the sticker lists something I would use that as some sort of expectation of performance. But that rating doesn't seem to be acheivable it does make you wonder. The rating should be taking into account the size, shape engine etc; that is why I question if the EPA rating is even relevant. As I stated before every vehicle we have purchased we have always gotten the highway rating when used for commuting. With the Edge we can't even get that on pure highway driving. Even my modified Legacy Gt was getting the sticker rating and it was driven a lot harder than the Edge gets driven.
  2. Wow...great idea. I backed my card up when we bought the Edge; I'll have to dig up a sutiable card and see if it makes a difference. For us this would be huge since our unit lags so badly we have missed several streets/exits. When moving really slow the unit is off by at least 50 feet and at highway speeds it is more like 100-150 feet. Around here the interchanges can be very busy and it is easy with a lag such as this to pick the wrong street. This has never been an issue with the portables we have owned in the past or other OEM offerings.
  3. Just saw an ad for the Licoln MKZ and noticed that in the middle of the video they show an interior shot and the MLT has the dreaded black screen with Sync and Microsoft on it thought it is mising the "Performing Scheduled Maintenance" part but thought maybe Lincoln wass just trying to get new owners used to the idea of seeing the screen. ANyone else notice this?
  4. No Poll? I would say we are dissapointed with the MFT but we have only been dealing with issues for a few months, can't imagine the frustration of people who bought when it first came out. I am hopeful the rewrite will make it function well enough that I won't be updating a log of failures on a daily basis. But the bigger benefit is knowing the wife and kid will be safe because she won't be distracted by whatever odd thing the mft decides to do.
  5. Unfortunately even if someone posted at one point and time that they were happy with MFT it doesn't mean they remained happy. Our first few weeks with the product were fine, a little slow but relatively few issues. It wasn't until after a few weeks that some issues came up and honestly I would love to have those issues back. Because for me updating to 2.11 has been the biggest mistake. Now we get nearly daily reboots along with a ton of other quirks.
  6. First the specifics; this is a Valley 82162 hitch that is designed for Ford Edge's. The instructions claim you need to drill but you really don't, I got it installed with no drilling. This hitch was on the vehicle for a couple weeks but still looks brand new and will come with new mounting hardware. I purchased this for $130 and would like to get $75 and I prefer a local sale. If you are interested in shipping I do have a box but it will be expensive. I would charge actual shipping costs but if you want to get an estimate the box said 39lbs and I am in 07462. The reason I am selling is that despite several sites claims this does not fit a 2011 Ford Edge. It does bolt up fine but Ford changed the design of the exhaust and it now has the slightest of interferences so you get occasional clunks. I tried contacting the manufacturer but they were unresponsive. Originally I had wanted this hitch because with some modifications you can make it completely hidden. But in the end the clunks were annoying and the wife said it had to go. So if you have an older version of the exhaust (ie you cans are stamped) then this should fit fine. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
  7. Well I just got a response from Sync support; they confirmed the new version will be out in January.
  8. Thanks for the update....unfortunately my normal dealer wanted 160 buck and I am yet to find anyone under 99. Now I am just waiting to hear a price from them to do the whole job.
  9. This is about the only point I can agree with you on and understand being dissapointed about (providing you're FWD). This is the first vehicle we have owned that we can't get the hwy rating for our normal driving routine which is mostly rural roads and some highway. We are consistently 20% below the sticker. Granted that is within th EPA ranges given but even our 2001 Audi A4 with 190k gets better than what it was stickered for on a commute full of lights. I don't know if the EPA changed their guidelines or what but it seems many people I know that have purchased cars recently are seeing the same thing.
  10. Agreed but from what I can find online the 400 MHz Freescale i.MX31L processor only seems to be used in e-readers. The core itself was released in 2007 and that is when Ford designed Sync to be released in 2008 with this CPU. The original sync systems were not controlling anywhere near what the new MFT does. So while I think it was more than adequate for the older system the added complexity and touch interface of the MFT errode any extra capacity making it marginal in the MFT.
  11. From what I have read on the APIM; it only has 2GB of flash memory and the Nav card is an almost full 16GB card I believe. So if they do supply an update to the nav data they would have to supply a new SD card or a link to download the new data.
  12. Welcome to the forum. There were some delays in production recently due to the hurricane closing a carpet supplier. I believe they are back up and running but I don't know if they have caught up on the backlog. So it is probably best to not expect your new ride before Christmas. That way you won't be dissapointed if it doesn't show and if it does it will be a great present.
  13. And cost savings. I am sure Ford Corp doesn't pay the $112 and hour the dealer would charge me but even if it is only $30/hr for 1/2hr by a few hundred thousand vehicles and it makes sense to figure out another distribution route.
  14. I think if you get the remote start you can have it set to auto so it will automatically turn the heat on as well as seats if the temp drops below a preset value.
  15. Not a conspiracy theorist...just a pessimist. Especially after seeing a lot of decision companies big and small make to try to cover up problems/issues. Just from an logical perspective, if most portable GPS use the same speed processor or better I don't see how you can reasonably expect this one to do that much more. It also didn't sit well with me that in the one video I saw of the new software the car is clearly not moving but when they show nav the vehicle is moving down the road. Again I really hope I am wrong.
  16. Cost of an upgraded processor is nothing, but the cost to develop a new APIM and then have to recall all existing vehicles would be enormous. Not to mention take way longer than Ford has to find a solution. But if they can make a version of the software work on this hardware; even if it isn't ideal, they can essentially say there is nothing wrong with the hardware and try to put this version behind them. Again I think they are taking a calculated risk, knowing they can't afford to wait for a new board design or support a recall. Again I hope I am wrong but I still think there will be performance issues for those with Nav. My guess is once they have this new software out they will start a new board design if they haven't already and it will be in the 2014's or 2015's and they will claim the change was necessary since they added extra features. As for adding nav after the fact...why would it be difficult? The data is on an SD card, all the hardware is in place, they would just need to change the software and/or enable the feature. This isn't something Ford corporate would have to get involved in. They could have left it to the dealers as they do with other upgrades like the plug and play remote starts, hitch wiring etc.
  17. I am just confused as to why ours went from slightly annoying on 2.8 to just terrible after the self installed 2.11. I was somewhat hopefully that is they did a clean install of 2.11 that it would help but since it didn't clear out the phones or other settings I don't think it was a clean install either. At this point I think I may keep pushing the issue with the dealer because I really think something else is happening. My self install took over an hour when most reported 40 minutes or less, so I have to wonder if there is a hardware issue whether it be something crapping out or a conflict. I would just rather have it resolved before the new release than have the new release get corrupted because something is messed up.
  18. Well as I suspected the "update" wasn't effective. The wife confirmed yesterday she got three consecutive "performing scheduled maintenance" screens. Not sure if it is worth bring back to the dealer since I know there is nothing they can do but part of me is concerned that I may have an APIM issue as Akirby mentioned in another thread. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  19. You just made me sad. I traded in my 05 Legacy GT wagon that I modified. Really nice vehicle but they no longer make them.....if you want a wagon you have to get the Outback with the lifted suspension.
  20. Mine was off too but when I turned the DST off the time was correct. I did have sync to GPS on and auto time zone change on.
  21. Nice ride...and I miss Germany. Haven't been there in a few years. Hoping the new job gets me back there soon.
  22. Normally I would agree with you but after seeing what many companies decide to do to either cut costs or cover up issues I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with the outdated core. I think the software if written properly can help the hardware but I still believe they know they have a hardware issue at least for those units that have nav. Again the processor was released in 2007 and is only running ~400MHz which is what stand alone GPS units run. No matter how clean you write your code (not something MS is known for) you are still pushing the limits of this CPU's capabilities. I think Ford is taking a calculated risk and figuring the overall % of nav sales is low and cost to carry or change CPU platforms would be too high. I remember reading before I made my purchase that the majority of the people having issues were those with Nav. I had also looked into adding nav later as that would have been beneficial to us at the time, but found Ford didn't offer it. There is no real reason Ford couldn't offer Nav as an upgrade. All the hooks are there they would just need to update the software and provide an SD card. Again this is just speculation but I think Ford was aware of the limitations and decided that performing updates would just cause more issues and they were already stretched too thin trying to patch things up. Again I could be completely wrong and I hope I am but based on my experiences with MFT it is running like and old underpowered PC with a bloatware on it.
  23. Yeah the TSB they say they performed was for the 2.11. So I have no idea what they really did if anything. They told me I would have to pair the phones again but I didn't so I am not holding out much hope there will be an improvement. Just have to hope the rewrite comes soon I guess.
  24. Don't get your hopes up. I still think they are going to have issues with MFT running Nav. The more I read and the more I scrutinize the issues I am having it really seems like there isn't enough processing power in the APIM. When I looked it up it indicated that it runs at 400MHz, some places mention it can be overclocked to 600 which would help but I still question if it will provide an acceptable interface. Most portable nav units are running 400MHz or faster just for nav, so to have it also control phone, climate and entertainment I think is stretching it too far. But something at this point is better than nothing.
  25. Dropped my Edge off this morning giving them a long list of MFT issues as well as a few other concerns. Well I got a call saying they did an update to the MFT that addressed the issues I had. Problem is I was already at 2.11 and I thought this was the last update and from the looks of things will be the last before the new software is released. So is this dealer just blowing me off telling me they did something they didn't hoping I won't come back for a while or is there something else they have available?
