  1. Thanks for the info on the programmer...going to check that out as I think a set of dedicated snows is in our future.
  2. Like I said the guy I work with has ~75k on the clock and just had it replaced for the first time. He is the one that showed me that potential class action lawsuit I posted up a while back. And no I was correct...I want to retain the piece of mind I have left!
  3. I still plan on picking one up for the wife's Edge. Between the BAMR, MFT and PTU I do have major concerns about the vehicle over the long haul. I can get a 7yr/125k warranty with $50 ded for ~$1600. A coworker of mine just had his PTU replaced and other tranny work total was over 2k. While I agree with Akirby in theory you do have to take each vehicle and your personal situation into account. While they wouldn't sell plans if they didn't make money on the whole, you do have to consider that some models they might lose money on. Since we plan on keeping the Edge long term...providing the MFT gets sorted...I prefer having the piece of mind that it is covered for quite some time.
  4. +1 Found this to be great for the little guy, gives him more leg room and since they now recommend rear facing until 2yrs we have a better shot at keeping him rear facing longer.
  5. I got a Chicco KeyFit base in the center as well as a Britax Boulevard CS. Both took some adjustments and shims underneath to get it to the proper level but was find once in place. Now the we have the Britax on the side since he is just too heavy to try to get him in the center position. I haven't tried forward facing yet but if you are having issues because the car seat is tall (like the Britax) then maybe look at removing the center armrest. The headrest is attached to that so if you can get it out relatively easily I would think that would be the preferred method. But as many have suggested have your local PD give it a check....there are a ton of Edges on the road so chances are they have done a few.
  6. When you say your phone is not compatible...in what way? I would be very surprised if you couldn't make calls, but if you were hoping to do advanced things like texting it seems many have issues with this. So before you run out to get a new phone, search around regarding the problems you're having.
  7. Welcome and best of luck with the new ride. Is does handle pretty well considering its size and weight...too bad I don't get to drive it much.
  8. The one I got was $5 from target, twin size. Haven't tried in the Edge but wonder if a full size would fit better. Would also make it easier to share with the little guy. Might want to watch sales at Target and Walmart on these since they often go on sale. One thing to check out is how flat the cargo area is with the seats folded. In my Subaru there was a slight angle but it was fine because the top of the mattress is flocked. This keeps you from sliding around to some degree.
  9. I always kept a twin size air mattress in my Subaru Legacy wagon. Fit perfect between the wheel wells and made sleeping in the back very comfortable. Have the same plans for the edge. But doubt I will be doing it for a little while, I'll probably wait until my little guy gets a little older and I can slowly introduce him to camping.
  10. Yeah I guess you're right. Just frustrating because while I might come up with a few good add ons my execution to something I would like to keep in/on the car isn't likely. I have done a few things in the past and while other people really liked it all I saw were the couple little spots I thought I screwed up or could have done something better. For whatever reason I am not as critical of purchased parts.
  11. Not really...for the price they performed great. I only had them for one season but they didn't seem to wear all that much, well relative to something like a Blizzak. I think I would have gotten possible two more winters out of them (~30k total). That is basically what I got out of the Dunlops; after the 3rd winter there wasn't enough tread for another winter so I ran them out to summer. If I had to do it again and had the extra cash I would have gotten performance all seasons just because I don't think they gave up that much ultimate snow traction and handled dry roads great too.
  12. Just baffles me. I read one story about how Ford sold 400k Edges before teh 11's came out. Even if there are only a few percent of the people that want to do something you think there would still be a decent market. Just sucks...I am coming from a Subaru and there are more options than you know what to do with. Oh well I guess I will need to get creative if I want to do stuff. I just know it will be a tough sell since this is the wife's ride and she likes to see the end result before making the commitment.
  13. I keep searching around and really can't find any sites with aftermarket parts made just for the Edge. I would have thought that one of the best (if not best) selling vehicle in its class would have more options out there. Most of what I find is generic stuff or if it is specific it is for the previous model years. I realize we can't get much out of the engine but I would think there would be more suspension, brake, exterior and interior parts out there. Do I just suck at the search? If anyone has some good sites out there please let me know. Pretty much the only place I have found Edge specific parts is Steeda and they don't have much.
  14. I live in a fringe area outside NYC, once I go over the mountains I lose NY stations so we do need a good antenna. But with that said I have no idea how good the stock one is...only that it is pretty big. Was hoping someone had some insingth into how strong it was or at least a comparison to some aftermarket models. Some of the sites I saw only compare the antennas to each other. Kind of like a good better best thing which doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. But thanks for th input, I guess we'll site tight for now.
  15. Found this thread and wondering the same. Would like a smaller antenna without reception losses. Can anyone give feedback on options out there?
  16. Nothing here but haven't taken the car in. But I am starting to think it is something to do with the software used. I noticed the other day when the wife called while still in the parking lot there was an odd processed sound to it. Then as she got underway it morphed to a pulsating whoosing noise then full on wind noise. When she spoke the noise didn't seem as bad but maybe it is just relative volumes. But it does make me wonder if something they are using to process the sound or cancel noise is the problem.
  17. On my last car I had Hankook I-pikes. They were very good in snow and the wet but not great on dry roads. In fact one day when I was heading over the mountain (15% grade for ~1.5 miles) there were tons of cars stuck and I had to stop several times. Never had a problem getting back under way. The tread pattern is very similar to a General snow tire and both exhibit a strange behavior on hard braking...basically the rear end gets squirelly. I only had this once and it was a complete panic stop, other hard braking was fine. I have also had blizzaks and found the Hankooks to be a little more stable feeling on dry roads but they were no where near the handling I got from teh Dunlop M3's I had before. Those drove more like all seasons that were actually good in the great snow.
  18. You sure you don't have it set on shuffle? That isn't something I have seen and we have a hard drive with 60GB of music.
  19. I just saw this article: http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/18/tech/innovation/ford-vehicles-read-texts-mashable/index.html?eref=mrss_igoogle_cnn saying that Ford is adding the text reading capability to 2010 and newer vehicles. But I thought we already had this, no? I could swear I read about it here that some got it to work but that phone support was limited. So is this something new or just Ford trying to promote an update? Either way it is good te hear they have more updates in the pipeline for users to do via USB.
  20. Thanks for the additional info. Hopefully they got this fixed but if not I will know what to look for.
  21. Wow..not good to see so many issues. Wonder if it has something to do with the fact they actually tell you to push the screen not just tap like any other touch device known to man. Did you also happen to PM that one member that must work for Ford? Might be worth a shot to give her the details and see what she can do for you.
  22. For those of you that have added HID kits what wattage did you get and why? Are you happy with your choice? Originally I was planning on getting a 9006 35W kit but I am starting to rethink this. My last car I had a 55W kit and I almost never needed the high beams and it provided a ton of light to the side of the road where all the deer and bear were hiding. I had been in other cars where 35W seemed just fine but these were all cars running standard halogen bulbs (H7, 9006 etc). So the light output from the stock bulbs wasn't that great to begin with so a 35W kit was a nice improvement. But with the Edge's 9012 bulb you already have a good bulb with great ouput so I am wondering if 35W does provide more light or if it just changes the color temp so you think there is more. Since I still have my 55W ballasts I may get a 35W kit and try to do a comparison between 9012-9011-35W 9006 and 55W 9006 but as much as I would like to do this I never seem to have the time to pull it all together.
  23. Well like I said I think they have to make this work at this point, they have already taken a beating on this whole issue. My main concern is if they end up changing the hardware on the upcoming models when they find a problem and that upgrades to the older hardware set will be nill. Honestly I thik the APIM is way under powered. I think I read that it runs on a 400MHz CPU. Not sure how they thought it could ever handle everything they wanted it to. 400MHz is what most portable GPS units have just for NAV. So trying to pull out HVAC controls, voice recognition, mp3 playback, video playback etc is asking too much IMHO. I have to believe they are going to have to increase this processor soon, especially if they do still intend to provide a browser or allow apps to be added.
  24. Haven't heard of other screens cracking but I can't say I blame them for not covering it. Most warranties wouldn't cover that. But you might want to check with your insurance. I know mine covers things like that under comprehensive.
  25. +1 My 2011 SEL with nav has it. Don't remember if there is a screen to shut it off but I do remember a screen that allowed you to set up guide lines and stuff. Maybe take a walk to the back and verify if there is a lense by the license plate. My guess is you'll find one, then you just have to figure out if it isn't working right due to MFT issues or you have it shut off.
