  1. I've had this Limited Edge with NAV a couple years. Have enjoyed it. But the gee whiz glamour of MFT and built in NAV, Sync, etc, have kinda worn off. Don't much care if it has it or not. Mostly like the Edge for how it drives, the good fuel economy with V6 on trips, good acceleration, quiet interior, good seats, good rear seat comfort, etc. It's a great all around tall car for us. We use something else mostly for around town driving.
  2. So you folks think it's just a NAV thing, and if I ever get a new NAV SD card it might go away? It scares me to think about owning this vehicle for 10 years or so, and what repairs I might need to pay for out of my pocket. And how out of date the technology will be. If it's still supported. Think the next Edge or Explorer I get will be a simple version. No factory NAV or MFT. Looking at plain XLT Explorer. Just get Sync for hands free calling. In many ways....I liked my portable Garmin better anyway. Just plug it into Garmin.Com for updates. If it breaks, just buy another one cheap.
  3. In our 2012 Edge Limited with NAV.....On a recent trip from Orlando, FL, to Columbia, SC, and back.....several times NAV wanted me to exit off I 95 at some strange exit not on any route home or to destination. I know how to do this trip....quickest trip.....done it many times, but use NAV to keep up with my arrival time and distance to destination. Just before the exit it wanted me to use, it would add about a hour or so to my arrival time (which would have been around right if I had gone the way NAV wanted). As soon as I passed the exit, it would then recalculate, time of arrival and distance go back correct. Have the NAV set on quickest time, using ferries and toll roads, and Interstates. No eco, etc. Recently went on a trip to an attraction in Gainesville, FL, that as near an Interstate exit. NAV took me off one exit early, drove me around some commercial area a while, then directed me to attraction. My Honda with NAV and my portable Garmin don't do this and both are much more reliable. Why? For some reason, NAV seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes. I just ignore it....but if I didn't know here I was going, it would add a lot of time to trip. Any ideas. BTW It has latest updates. BTW....Have learned from experience that phone paring problems with my vehicle and phone can be fixed with a master reset on car and a reboot (take battery out for a few seconds) on my phone. Maybe clears cach or something. I really like this car for use on trips etc.....but am rapidly losing interest in having MFT or MLT on next vehicle.
  4. Called Sirius....they said they were working on problem. Said their stock ticker was down.
  5. I do it....can't think of any reason not too. No car with Sync or the GM Encore system will need a device. Easy money it seems to me.
  6. This may not interest many of you but....I like to listen to CNBC while in the car. And until recently Sirius and CNBC would show the Dow average and some of the more popular stock quotes would show on the radio. It recently stoped doing that. Just says whatever segment the show is on now like "closing bell", stuff like that. Nothing specific like before. Wonder why? This is 2012 Limited with the Sony rado, etc. My subscription is current, and everything else seems to work OK.
  7. Insurance company just keeping up with your mileage. If you don't drive much, could be extra discounts. I do it.
  8. I had that problem once on a two hour trip to visit a historical site. GPS keep taking me the strangest routes. So went into settings and discovered someone (my kids probably) had set it to avoid all freeways and Interstates, ferries, and toll roads. After I fixed the settings, it worked fine. Check your settings. GPS devices do not have minds of tjheir own. Actually....our 3.5 Limited 2012 Edge is the best car we have ever owned.
  9. I don't think the 3.5 will adapt to higher octane fuel. Unless it's going from 85 to 87. Also.....87 octane fuel is slightly more volatile than higher octane fuel, and while probably not measurable, contains slightly more BTU's of energy. So 87 has the potential to get better fuel economy. Hi octane fuel is fuel with additives that reduce it's volatility, so it's less likely to preignite (spark knock). Works better generally with a lot of compresson, boost, or timing. And I know the EB engines run on 87, but they for sure could benefit from some tuning to use higher octane fuel. Having modified many Mustangs thru the past years, I know you can make more power by building the engine for hi octane and tuning for hi octane than you lose with the higher octane fuel. I just don't think our 3.5 Edge was originally tuned for hi octane. That's why I don't think it will take advantage of 91. Our 3.5 Edge has a lot of compression, and I bet with a custom tune on a dyno, adding some timing, and leaning it a tad, it could then benefit from hi octane fuel.
  10. Don't know why it would be a problem to add a light somewhere. The screens seem to change every time we get an update. Like a TV screen.
  11. Sorry if this has been discussed. Couldn't find answer in search either. I have trouble figuring out if headlights are on before it gets dark in our 2012 Limited. Owners manual says something about the knob lights up, or back light, if they are on, but in bright sunlight I don't see that. Also it says if wipers are on, lights are on. Is that all wiper positions....even intermittant? In our other cars, nice bright indicator light is on when lights are on. Maybe I'm spoiled. Otherwise our vehicle, and all it's technology, works just fine.
  12. Before this latest update with A4 maps, when entering hotel/motel info manually into Nav.....I would only enter the phone number, and the hotel name, address, and phone number would fill in. Then could just set as destination. With phone number alwways showing in address if I needed to call ahead, etc. Now don't see a way to just enter the phone number. Am I missing it somehow? Hidden in a second menu or something? Thanks
  13. Sirius is just a little more than XM. I just redid a Honda with XM for about $25 plus all the taxes for 5 months. Sirius is a tad more. But same idea. Sirius offers a little more info, at least on the big screen Edge, VS the XM in my 2012 Honda CRV with NAV. I like the streaming stock and market quotes from CNBC on the Sirius, don't get that on the CRV with XM. Also....get NASCAR on Sirius....shows the top 5 leaders, it's optional on XM but on my Honda wouldn't have streaming info. So for me, and what I listen to, and with the equipment I'm listening with, Sirius is worth more to me. XM may offer same stuff as Sirius if my Honda had same level of receiving equipment.....I don't know. Just know I way prefer the Sirius in our Edge VS the XM in my Honda. I may not continue with the XM in my Honda, especially since travel and weather come from the free FM, so don't need XM with NAV. On Edge, need the Sirius subscription for that. I'm beginning to think that in order to fully enjoy one of these Ford products with NAV and MFT, you might as well pony up for all the subscriptions, Sirius with travel and weather, Sync after 3 years, and NAV if updating ever costs. Save on something else. These electronics are a big part of what the cars are about.
  14. Keep in mind.....for those that want to add a tow package to tow something heavier than a 300 lb utility trailer......the factory tow package includes more than a hitch and wiring. It will include a larger capacity radiator, cooler for transmission, and perhaps, not sure, a cooler for the power steering. Plus flashers designed to work with your trailer lights. You can burn up a transmission fairly quick towing a heavy load in hot weather without a trans cooler.
  15. Just got back from dealership (oil change and tire rotation) and I had them do the update to 3.5 and I gave them the A4 maps I just got in mail. Lost my phone parings, and Sirius presets. Didn't lose FM and AM presets. Rear view camera works fine....even has that line you guys are talking about. There is also a button for a different view....either a zoomed in close up or a zoomed down view like you are lining up to a trailer hitch. Not sure which yet. So far everything seems fine. Phone paring is a little different.
  16. Ordered the A4 card from SMR last night, and it was delivered about mid day today. Amazing!
  17. Sorry....what does format mean? Do you mean I just load the down load onto same storage device I used before?
  18. I just ordered the new A4. But I don't have 3.5 installed. Do I install 3.5 the same way I installed 3.2 a few months ago? I thought I updated to 3.5 a few months ago, but SMR only shows 3.2. I'm not much into all this stuff. Last time I went to Walmart, bought their cheapest SanDish storage device, downloaded the update to the computer, and them loaded it onto my new empty storage device. Then loaded it into car. So I thought I would try to use the same storage device. When I tried to "empty" it (delete old download), it said not to do that because data was shared with Sync My Ride. Can I go ahead and delete the old data from storage disk (3.2 is only thing on it) and use it for the down load, use it as is....plenty of storage left, or should I just go get a new one? They don't cost much.
  19. My 2012 got the update a few months back, so imagine it will be a while before I need an update for Nav. All we will need is new SD card right? But will the dealership sell it? Or outside vendor? Or is this something we can shop around for? Would imagine there W/B a dealership or Ford parts place somewhere selling them online for big discount. Or some place selling the down load.....kinda like my Turbo Tax does. Or like we did the last update.....down loaded to empty SD card. Then loaded into my car. Any older MFT cars bought an update yet?
  20. It's not difficult to cancel the service at end of your term, then renegoiate again for next term. I've done it several times.
  21. On my 2012 with NAV, I usually just put in addresses manually before I leave. And almost always never write in city or state. Just use ZIP code and street addresses, and for motels and commercial places just use their phone number to put in destination. Don't know if you do this with voice or not. But imagine numbers recognize easier than words. My two other vehicles with NAV do not allow this. I think the Ford system is kinda neat.
  22. German?.....made in Tennessee or Germany? BTW.....Nice looking car. Seems perfect for your use. I'm not a fan of diesel for a passenger car my wife would drive. Just too smelly, diesel on ground around many pumps. Find a clean one and use gloves. Eco Boost has most of the advantages of diesel at a cheaper cost in manufacturing and fuel. Turbo charging and direct injection. Have often do you fill the urea tank on the VW diesel?
  23. One of the things we like about our 3.5 L 2012 Limited Edge is the seat comfort on long trips. With one of us in rear. We have smaller, lighter, more economical cars to run, and cheaper to buy cars for shorter around town trips, but when we get ready to go someplace where we spend some time in the vehicle, it's the Edge we take. BTW.....on recent 1200 mile round trip, about all Interstate, mostly near flat (except around Colmbia, SC) , 95% of time with cruise at 71-72, AC compressor off, car computer said fuel economy was just above 28 MPG (US), and my computing on fuel bought and miles driven was closer to 29 MPG. MFT and GPS performed flawlessly. My experience with AC compressor on over same trip in summer is about 1 MPG less. Admittedly almost ideal driving conditions. FL to NC and back.
  24. I also recently had to make the same decision. I'm a retiree. Mostly living off investments. I also usually just pay for vehicles when I get them. And I usually buy someone in our family a new vehicle every few years. Seems I'm always buying cars. So I deal with this decision a lot. Being an X plan buyer, the pricing on our 2012 Limited was pretty straight forward. X plan price with Limited with Nav, was around $34,000 (US) plus taxes. Rather than just buy the vehicle outright, accepting their $8000 trade in on 8 year old Mercury Montego, and paying cash for the difference, I paid $5000 down on a 27 month lease (based on X plan buy price) with lease payments of $274 per month. Residual of $23,850 a lease end. Ford was subsidizing the 27 month lease at the time. Will probably buy the vehicle at lease end, either keeping it a while until original warranty is up, or sell immediately attempting to recover most of the $5000 I put down on lease. So far....by my convoluted way of thinking, I have been driving this really nice car free for this year. Have made more on the money I kept invested than the lease payments added up to. Your results may vary. However....without having the "opportunity cost" (lost investment return on money spent), and adding up all the extra costs built into leases, I think outright buying the vehicle would be about $1000 cheaper on a 3-5 year ownership period. Leasing has some advantages for some, but generally costs a little more. I only overcome this extra cost by doing something better with the money. Which, of course, doesn't always work. Leasing does make sense I think for a person who is always trading every couple years. Just paying for the part of the car you use up. But if you have little assets to work with, it's hard to ever build any equity this way. Leasing actually works better on low depreciating vehicles, not on mass produced vehicles sold to rental car fleets who dump them on market depressing their prices. Google for low depreciating vehicles if you lease. I'm a F shareholder, and like the cars, is only reason I lease a F product. JUst a loyal shareholder I guess. Anyway....that's my opinion. And I pay attention to real costs of things.
