  1. The 2.7 V6 EB is a very underated engine. In the F150, it's performance is closer to the 3.5 EB than the numbers would have you think. It's also a more modern engine than the 3.5 EB. The 3.5 EB is due for an upgrade soon....with more power and TQ. I don't think a Lincoln owner will be disappointed with the 2.7 EB, and if he is....perhaps he bought the wrong vehicle. Perhaps a 5.0 Mustang w/b a better fit.
  2. I ask because....yesterday he showed me by turning on his phone, going to app.....then a message on his NAV screen says "no new data available" ,. He said to me that he updates it all the time from I phone 6. I then saked him if that was an extention of his phone showing on NAV screen, and he said "no", it was car's NAV. I thought maybe it worked kinda like one of our cars without NAV with those "turn by turn" directions that work off your phone. He said no. It was same system as on Lexus models. Just wondering if we get that on future Fords. Thanks for response.
  3. A friend of mine, with a top of the line loaded Toyota Avalon sedan, showed me yesterday how he can update his car's NAV with app from his I Phone any time he wishes. Not sure if that is map data, or points of interest. But believe it is all data. Just like a portable Garmin. Is Ford offering anything like that? We have a Limited 2012 Edge with NAV, and I always thought it stupid to ride around with old data, when new info on roads is out there.
  4. Although the battery in our 2012 Edge 3.5 Limited was 3 years old (plus time before Ford installed at factory), and still cranked OK, test showed cold cranking power way down, so put in a new Motorcraft battery. Didn't lose any presets, but now recirculate on AC system stays on after turning engine off then restarting. I use recirculate a lot with AC to save energy (and polution of outside air). Always thought it should stay in that recirculate mode when turning engine off, then back on, but it never did. Now after the shock of old battery out and new one in, recirculate stays on until I take it off manually. Wonder what happened? And....I'm not complaining.
  5. It's the transmission fluid temp you need to be concerned about. I bet the factory kit includes transmission and power steering coolers.
  6. Check the cabin air filter. It is usually dirty, and really affects cooling effiency.
  7. My point about asking the sticker is....I believe a loaded Jeep GC like the one you describe is a little higher up the price structure than an Edge. You can option a Jeep GC SRT easily into the 60's. Would expect some upper level stuff. It competes well with BMW X5 and things like that. I notice there are a lot of Jeep GC in the Doctors parking lots alonside the MB, BMW, Jags, hi end Cadilac's etc. No Edges there. No Grand Cherokee Laredo's either.
  8. OK.....thought I would report about our bought new 2012 3.5 Limited Edge with NAV.....it's now 2 years old. 22,000 miles. It's been a terrific car. A few bugs with MFT, but those were worked out with a couple SD chips, I installed in driveway. Did other updates in driveway also. Did have some phone issues, but discoved my phone didn't have latest software, so after updating phone, it works perfect. Nav routed me off Interstate a couple times, but not sure if that was NAV fault, or daughter playing around with NAV settings. After redoing settings allowing for toll roads, Interstates, ferries, etc, hasn't done that since. Got my fingers crossed. Have had no reason to make a trip to the dealership for any reason other than routine maintenance. Really like communicating with SyncMyRide.com for favorites (stock quotes, etc) and updates. Use the Vehicle Health Report to my Insurance Company for small insurance reduction. It reports mileage and some info about driving habits (what kind not clear to me). Also happy to get the extended warranty on brake booster (no problem with mine), and to have the APIM module warranty extended to 5 years. This is an extremely comfortable vehicle, and we enjoy it for long trips. Usually get 26-28 on highway....depending on load, hills, headwinds, etc. About 22 in urban driving. That is acceptable. In cold weather running auto climate, temp setting, and AC off adds about 1 MPG. I do have the all weather mats and a Husky rear cargo mat....so carpet is same as new. It's garaged 100% of time, so overall is same as new....paint, etc. All rubber around window and door frames still soft and pliable. Good quality there. It was serviced at local Linciln dealership at around 6500 mile intervals, and did have an alignment at 19,000 miles. It didn't particularly need an alignment then....rear toe was off a little, but I knew it would soon, and I like to get 50,000 miles plus from original tires. Anyway....it drives as nice as when new. BTW....Lincoln dealership with their internet coupon is about as inexpensive as anywhere, but pop corn with coffee more flavors than Ford dealership. So only money I have spent on it was for routine maintenance....Ford oil/filter and tire rotations plus one alignment. Haven't checked condition of cabin filter, but will soon. I'll do engine air filter at recommended interval. May wax it soon, but clear coat still shiny like new. So overall count me as a satisfied owner. I feel I got my money's worth. A good value.
  9. It's tough to beat X plan pricing for most folks. You still get the rebates, etc. And they can compute the lease on X plan pricing minus any rebates and other cash (loyalty) deals offered to you. Any dealership will likely do X plan on any Edge they have in stock. With no hassle. Also....no advertising fee added. Ford looks over the deals to make sure you get priced right.
  10. Maybe Ford plans to give us a new one soon. Some recent roads I was on were not on my map. Fortunately....was able to figure out where I was until NAV figured it out.
  11. I set it up thru State Farm. I only get online statements from them, and as I recall, info is on that web site when you sign on to view your account. Have to send them a report at least once a month, and if I don't they send an E Mail reminding me to do so.
  12. I read mine at syncmyride.com. My insurance company, State Farm, offers a discount for safe driving, if they get a copy of the VHR, so also authorize one sent to them. I understand the one sent to the insurance company includes info about my driving habits, and I don't see that one.
  13. With all these mods.....wonder if anyone thinks of resale value down the road....and how these mods basically make the car un saleable.....at least at a dealership where they have to back their sales. So you spend a few thousand on mods that no one would understand what you did....but you, and kill off another few thousand of resale value. Much cheaper to just buy the loaded model to begin with.
  14. Not too much to ask at all. If the dealership is only one can do it.
  15. Well....good luck. Know it's frustrating. I don't work for Ford, or a dealership, or have any particular knowledge of current Ford arrangements for reimbursing for situations like yours. Frankly....I don't see how they can. Just too much potential for fraud. But do know.....while Ford (and all car makes) are rather strict about controlling warranty costs and reimbursements to their dealerships for work done, they do have a way of helping out their best customers, sharing some costs, etc. Whether this is a Ford thing, allowing a dealership some leeway on customer work, or if it's just the dealership having a "slush" fund (so to speak) to help out their best most loyal customers...I don't know. But do know, and have experienced, some help from the dealerships before on warranty work that kinda fell into a gray area. Like problem when vehicle is slightly out of warranty, or a older TSB like yours, or a silent recall about a problem an independent garage wouldn't know about. Had a transmission replaced that way once. That's main reason I use the dealership for maintenance for our vehicles, and my wife, being a coupon clipper, thinks it doesn't cost any more using a dealership. Good luck getting resolution of your problem.
  16. First......I don't think that "demanding" anything gets you anywhere. You are entitled to exactly what the TSB says about repair and reimbursement. Nothing more, nothing less. If you were a regular customer of that Ford dealership, he could help out a little, but why should he help out a demanding customer who after he sticks his neck out to help you out, you go running back to your repair shop. My experience is Ford will honor the terms of the TSB. Avoiding a dealership for regular service can save you money....until something like this happens. Then it's good to be a good customer of a Ford dealership. I think our vehicles are getting to the point where there is little an independent shop can do any more other than change oil and rotate tires. There are just so many recalls, public and silent, where a dealership can help you out, would suggest you be a customer if this one helps you out.
  17. If you use a K&N filter, make sure you change your oil more often than manual recommends. They don't filter as well as stock paper filters, and oil will get dirty faster. I think your engine wears faster also, but some disagree on that. Also.....oil from the pre oiled filters has been know to migrate to MAF sensor wire....not good.....especially if it causes your engine to run too lean. Though it's usually the (over) reoiling after cleaning that causes the engine to run lean enough to burn a piston, and then you have to explain to a service writer why your engine issues s/b warrantied with that filter in there. That has happened. I don't understand why anyone would use a K&N filrer, technology from the 50's, unless you were doing intake mods to your car, and you couldn't find a paper filter that would fit or work. K&N's are available in an amazing amount of sizes and fitments. They can fit in all kinds of CAI systems, etc. Without too much engineering. And BTW.....filters do not affect fuel economy. Neither help nor hurt. Your CPU will adjust A/F mixture to setting in the tune, no matter which filter you use, or if stock one is slightly dirty.
  18. Don't see how 17", 18", snow, regular tread, etc, matters as long as tire circumference is same. 17" standard wheel on SE model has same tire circumference as my 18" tire on Limited. If not same, why would you get a snow tire in a different circumference than stock tires? Snow tire/wheel combo could be 16", 17:, 18: etc, as long as tire circumference is same as stock. If circumference not same as stock, same as what's in conputer, can see how it would confuse speedo, perhaps GPS distances, etc. Don't see how it would cause the NAV to develop a mind of it's own. CPU has some leeway built into it....after all, tires lose some circumferance as they wear...or have different air pressure. Did you transfer over the TPS monitors if you changed wheels? Good luck.
  19. Make sure the "no toll road no interstate" not on. it's a little confusing to some whether having those settings high lighted means on or off. When I first saw those settings it confused me, and I went on a trip up I 95 and it kept wanting me to exit. Checked my settings, realized my mistake, changed the settings, and no more trouble.
  20. I imagine the whole idea of plastic chrome is minimal maintenance. For sure you can't use anything abrasive or aciditic. Be careful with some of these spray on and rinse off wheel cleaners. Strong chemicals tough on plastic. On our 2012 with 18" chrome clad wheels, after I get them clean with soap and water, I just use some cheap Turtle wax. Then bring to hi shine. They look better than new.
  21. I use Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant for the mostly vinyl seats in our 2012 Limited Edge. It's relatively cheap, cleans, and brightens the seats up some without that real shiny slick look. Maybe the seating area, and where your back rests is leather, but rest of bottom and top is vinyl plus the sides and back. Leather cleaner and conditioner not best thing for vinyl. Actually.....soap and warm water do pretty good to clean it. With about 2/3 of our "leather seats" surface actually vinyl, and if just using one product......I would use a vinyl cleaner and protectant or something for vinyl and leather. It will brighten up your seats. http://www.leatherhelp.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=95:leather-vinyl-auto-upholstery&catid=41:caring-for-auto-bike-upholstery&Itemid=175
  22. Check your settings. On my 2012 I can turn the lines off or on.
  23. Got an alignment on our 2012 FWD Limited with about 18,500 miles yesterday. Toe was off on all 4 corners, and camber was off some also. Toe wasn't more than -1 deg neg anywhere, so not too bad. No bad iire wear yet. 2 of the 4 was out of (very wide) spec on either camber or toe. Caster was OK, but no easy adjustment for that. Do want to make the original tires last 40,000-50,000 miles, and drive smooth and quiet while doing that. Edge drives better after the alignment.....has a better feel thru the steering. Better planted ride. Better on center steering with correct toe setting. Don't overlook this maintenance item.
  24. If not.....there are probably some after market units. I have a friend who just bought a nice new Audi....without back up camera, and he plans to add an aftermarket one.
