    Timing Chain Replace

My 2012 Honda CRV and 2010 Honda Element has a timing chain also. No need to deal with belts anymore. Never changed out a timing chain on one of my Ford vehicles.
  2. You do know you're not waxing the colored paint. It has a clear coat over it. You are only waxing the clear coat. Here in Florida where we don't have snow and salted roads, I see no reason to wax my Edge until a year or so, when clear coat is not quite so bright. Then I will probably use a cheap spray on easily applied Dollar Tree wax once a year....something like Turtle Wax. I suppose it doesn't hurt anything to wax it though. Of course, my vehicle sits in a garage. Far more important is to keep the dirt and salt washed off, both underneath and on body. Especially flush areas behind trim, etc. Don't forget to treat rubber trim, it gets brittle with age.

    First Oil Change?

To me, when I change oil is about more than the oil change. It's also about when I want to rotate tires. I like to rotate tires about every 6000 miles or so, and that's when I change the oil......assuming it's a 6-9 month interval. Don't like to go more than that. I understand that's still a little early for some. I did the first oil change in our 2012 Edge at 6200 miles. Rotated the tires. At next oil change, will rotate tires again, then maybe do 4 wheel alignment, or wait to closer to 18,000 for 4 wheel alignment. After I inspect the tires for how they are wearing. I'm into perfect driving riding tires, all the way to around 50,000 miles or so on original tires. My experience is rear alignment is about as important as the front to accomplish that. So I think of it more as service intervals, not just oil change intervals. Will also do other services along the way that keep the vehicle driving and performing like new. Engine and cabin air filters, etc. Don't think it has a replaceable fuel filter.
  4. My 2012 Limited has factory NAV.....it works fine. But.....my salesman doesn't see the point in ordering factory NAV since you get turn by turn directions with Sync and MFT....without factory NAV. Nav just adds the maps...right?
  5. Are you sure it didn't have 118,000 or 218,000 miles on it when you bought it? Those all sound like high mileage worn out problems.
  6. Sounds good. It's structured how I would do it. I bet you could drive that vehicle 12,000 miles a year, and still not owe money at lease end. If.....used car market stays strong. Or just buy it and resale it and make out OK. I have decided if I can drive a nice vehicle for around $400 per month, get a new one every 2-3 years, not have to put money into deal, and always be under factory warranty, never have to buy tires, do brake jobs, buy plugs, etc, that's fairly cheap driving. If you were to buy it new, and keep it 10 years, you would still have $3000 or more per year depreciation plus maintenance and (maybe) some expensive repairs. That could also cost close to $400/month.
  7. Check E Bay. Probably a couple hundred for OEM take offs. This your wheel? Used..... http://www.ebay.com/...5b7b192&vxp=mtr
  8. In above post, I mention I own a 2012 CRV EX L with NAV, and a 2012 Edge Limited with NAV. I said the Edge is a lot more vehicle, it costs a lot more, and the CRV should really be compared to the Escape. The Edge is way more comfortable on trips, and is way more refined than the CRV.....as it should be for about $8000 or so more. Back seat comfort and rear leg room in the Edge is about as good as it gets, something important to us. And I much prefer the info screen with Sirius VS the plain screen in the Honda with XM. And the Edge back up camera is far better than the back up camera in CRV. So just no comparison between the two vehicles. But to set the record straight.....The CRV has slightly more interior volume than the Edge, contrary to what you might think if you just sit in one, because while more narrow than the Edge, it's a good bit taller inside. So the CRV appeals to a lot of us for hauling our expensive bikes inside, where we can haul bikes up right with fork mount, and stuff like that. I also like the ECON button in the CRV. It basically changes the shift pattern for the auto trans so it shifts to next gear a little sooner, and it alters AC so it stays in recirculate mode most of the time (but not all the time)....saving some fuel. So for just idling around town at light throttle in mostly level terrain, I think it's a neat idea, because in the same conditions where our Edge ges about 20 MPG, the CRV is usually in the 28-29 MPG range. And sure....the CRV is no hot rod.....0-60 in 8's, Edge in 7's. When you maintain 3 vehicles like I do, anytime I can get an exra 100 miles out of a tank of fuel (as compared to 3.5 Edge), well....that's good, and the savings add up. Would imagine the EB engine would help a little in this area. For highway use where I might want a little more passing power, or in hilly terrain, I drive with ECON off. However....as said above....our Edge is more powerful and more comfortable. So....Sure our Edge is a terrific vehicle, and is what I drive when on a trip, or when I just want to drive the nicer vehicle, and it's much more refined than the Honda with much newer technology, etc. Just hope Escape measures up to CRV. it should....Escape also has newer technology. Honda will probably hold value better than Escape, and be overall cheaper to drive. Not so many CRV's sold to rental car companies, then dumped on market cheap....something that doesn't help used values of hi volume Ford vehicles.
  9. The Ford filter is fully capable to filter the whole life of the oil change interval. Oil change intervals are determined by how the vehicle is used. Read your owners manual.
  10. The buy price is on your lease papers. If you are signed up for "auto pay", you can get that number from your account on the computer. Market value at lease end you won't know until lease is over, and you'll probably have to figure that out yourself. There is a big difference between wholesale and retail price. I'm leasing our 2012 Limited Edge with NAV on 27 month lease (and investing the cash I didn't spend), and have no intention of turning our Edge back to the dealership.....unless they want to give me $3000-$4000 to do it again saving me the sales tax on the buy. Will start that negoitation near lease end. My buy price is $23,300 in April of 2014. It will have about 22,000 miles on it, garaged 100% of time, and be as clean as the day I got it. Most likely I'll buy the vehicle, drive it a couple months, then sell it and try to make a few thousand. Already made about 10% on cash I didn't spend, so this deal is working out pretty good. Driving this Limited Edge fairly cheaply. Then look for something else to drive. Leasing is more complicated than just paying a check every month. It costs more to lease.....unless you have the cash available to invest successfully elsewhere. For most, buying is better. Study up on your options, There may be opportunity for you. After all, dealership will want to sell another car at your lease end. Put your car in show car condition....interior, under hood, door jams, paint, wheels, tires, etc. Mine stays this way.
  11. I'm with akirby on this. Too many folks don't understand about the longer lasting new lubes, somewhat larger oil capacities for engine size, cleaner fuels, and how servicing intervals have chainged. I like to rotate tires around the 6000-7000 mark, so that's when I change the oil. Othewise, for mostly highway diving, I would go a little longer on oil change. I also like to get a good (read from calibrated equipment) 4 wheel alignment about every 15,000 -20,000 miles. That way with rotation and alignment, my original equipment tires can last 50,000-60,000 miles. You need engine air filters and cabin air filters, and I figure never to change the transmission fluid, plugs, etc. I don't think my 2012 Edge has a fuel filter, or at least one you change out. . I won't own the vehicle past 90,000 miles. And....I also don't think my servicing intervals are shortening the life of my vehicle for the next owner.
  12. Don't think any aftermarket light systems are DOT legal.
  13. Correct. If anything you should get better economy with 87. The ingredients they put in gas to make premium, taking out some of the volatility so as to not ignite early, also takes out some of it's energy content. Probably not enough to be measurable. If heads and pistons gumed up with carbon, effectively raising compression, maybe 91 runs better, but wouldn't improve economy. Also like akirby says, dirty air filter won't cause poor economy with modern vehicles either. Perhaps cleaning the injectors was the ticket. I wouldn't think difference of say 5-20 to 5-30 would really affect economy....although I use the Ford 5-20. If mine....would hook it to a diagnostic tool and look for codes.
  14. After master reboot....all is well now. Phones working perfectly.

    Towing

There is more to a tow package than a hitch. Cooler on trans and (sometimes....not sure about Edge) cooler on power steering. Flashers designed to flash trailer lights, stuff like that. I don't have info about the Edge tow package, but without the tow package, I would only tow light loads short distances. Towing raises auto trans fluid temperature. And....the life of your transmission is directly proportional to the temp of the fluid. That's why every tow package has a cooler on the transmission to keep the fluid temps down.
  16. Can't you order a SEL model with leather , hands free phone, and most of the goodies..... without MFT? We have a 2012 Edge Limited with NAV, no special problems that have not been worked out, but I could live just fine without MFT. I just like how the car drives, and suits our needs.
  17. Took a 300 mile trip today (round trip) in our 2012 Limited with NAV, where I knew how to go, but put the destination in my NAV system anyway....I .like having how far it is to next turn, how long to go, etc. Daughter wants to listen to Sirius, and play with the system, so put the screen in the home mode where all the four quadrants show what's happening. This basically put the NAV system in turn by turn mode, since we weren't using the map. Is this how turn by turn directions would show if you didn't have NAV, and just used Sync for the turn by turn directions? Would these be "real time" directions from an up to date system? Like a Google earth or similar? Are the Sync directions pretty good? Even without a map? I'm not sure it's widely understood you can get turn by turn directions from SYNC when you don't have NAV. My Ford salesman said he didn't see any point in getting NAV for around town directions. Where you don't need a map for the big picture.(I like the map....zoom in and out, etc) I ask because one of the things that annoys me about our Nav system (and the one in my Honda) is having to pay every few years for up to date maps, when I think they should be easily available from SYNCMYRIDE.COM free. Just like if I bought a 1300 or 1400 Garmin portable with free map and POI upgrades just by plugging into Gamnin for updates. This info is certainly easily available. When do you think we will see NAV maps we can upgrade ourselves free, or at least no more than about $50 (Like my portable older model Garmin Nuvi 750)?
  18. http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-sync#reload Follow the little arrow. Depends on which system you have.
  19. It got to point where none of our (we thought) connected phones were recognized by SYNC. So called the HELP tech line that shows on screen. Was told to try a Master Reboot. Did that. Repaired the phones. They are working fine now. Will monitor and see if that was a real or temporary fix.
  20. No the update loaded fine. It's stuff like this that hurts the reputation of our vehicles. I have another vehicle with voice activated phone, and it works perfectly every time. Of course.....it's not as sophisticated as the SYNC stuff.
  21. Before this latest update, my phones worked perfectly. Usually have 3 pared to Edge. In past, it would always connect almost instantly. Since this update, sometimes I have to re pair a phone to get it to connect. It will usually say phone was paired before, do I want to keep it the same? or words to that effect. I can usually get it to connect, but it just doesn't connect as well as before. Once connected, it's fine. And it won't necessarily do better with same driver VS a different driver after shut down. Any ideas?
  22. Before the last update, my Trip screen would show mileage and fuel used. Now...after this update, Trip 1 only show mileage and the timer...also. I now use the fuel economy screen, the one with the bar.
  23. On mine...I count "one two" before releasing.
