  1. Check out any of the threads that I've started. It's a gorgeous color. My warranty was offered inclusive of the price the dealer wanted for it. It was a Ford dealer, though.
  2. I have an '08. No brake issues here... You could definitely find an SEL with ~60k for $19k. I got my SEL last year for $19k flat with 69k on it. No leather or power liftgate, though. Others have had better luck, though. My car came with a three year, 30k mile warranty since I purchased it from a dealer. I say pull the trigger. You'll be happy ya did.
  3. This. It's important to note that, while the stereo may be able to handle playing at "max", the speakers don't have the volume knob on them, meaning, they take whatever signal the head unit gives them. Usually, beyond 3/4 max volume, the signal sent out from the head unit is clipped, meaning it is a squared off sine wave. This is damaging to the speakers, and I'm quite surprised that they are "smart" enough to do something about it. All of my aftermarket systems would just shut down or blow up. lol
  4. I would say it is not normal to play anything at max volume...ever. Not sure about the sound wave-type fading, but you're definitely clipping and damaging your sub. Your regular door speakers aren't built to handle much lower than ~200 hz, so if you have the bass cranked and the high pass filter off, or no high pass filter, you're probably damaging or have blown your door speakers. ...How does that sound good?
  5. Looks good. Any thought to trying the glossifier? I definitely vote to to the grille.
  6. The HIDs are totally worth it. It only took me 30 minutes to install, too.
  7. Man, had this come out last year, I'd have a 2nd gen... I'm huge into audio, but wanted to put in my own touch screen... I love this! Cannot stand how cluttered the second gen dash looks, like I want to drive an alien spacecraft, but this is brilliant!
  8. Not sure about the second gens, but my 18s are still pretty loud inside the car. I think our cars look nicer with bigger wheels. If yours are messed up, definitely get some new ones, and try to avoid the curbs!
  9. Dan, you sell turn signal LEDs? Oh, and great report, Dingo! Maybe those 9% of people SHOULD have died... although the loss of life is always traumatic, I can't say I feel bad for someone dying in a flipped car when they tried to go 80 mph around a turn marked 25 mph... I personally know people that have survived crazy crashes due to seatbelts/dumb luck, but their driving habits haven't changed at all. Is that not a danger to society? lol I'm not offended by anything anyone's saying. That was just a simple statement said while laughing!
  10. All done! Don't think I'll have time to carpet the base before school starts for me. I do miss it being ported... but it still sounds good.
  11. Box is done, sanded, and ready to be plasti-dipped. Floor is almost done. Should have it done today, installed tomorrow morning. It feels so weird to not have a port...
  12. Got the hole cut out and the sub out of the old box. Forgot how big the thing was... My picture-taking-skills leave something to be desired... to be finished later.
  13. That does look pretty good! Pleasantly surprised.
  14. I used velcro for my HID ballasts, but it's fallen off now. I tied it through a screw hole, too. I'm sure some duct tape would work or extremely sticky double sided tape. Hope you enjoy them!
  15. Creativity! I like it! You porting the box? I assume you'll have enough room being that it is an 8. ..Build will resume after the company picnic and hopefully I can get it all put together before night's end, including carpeting and PD.
  16. I'm going to take a second to honor my grandpa. Ever since I got into car audio, we've gotten much closer. We share sarcasm and inside jokes and it makes me feel really good about the future. He's been through so much in his old age, I'm just happy to stand next to him when I can. He's survived a heart attack, three strokes, a driver's side crash that totaled his car, and has lived with tremors all his life (as I do). He's lived to see his brother die of cancer and his mom die of natural causes. It's been rough for him, but I'm glad for every moment he's here. This man is my hero, and I love having such a fun, connecting hobby in common with him. He currently does carpentry for a local church and gave up his mechanics shop a few years after I was born. Putting the top on with him: ...and all but the baffle:
  17. I'm not too concerned, but I thought I'd ask for clarification. Since I started building, I've put the fuse 6-8 inches from the power source. To make this look cleaner, I attempted to hide the fuse behind the interior panel. This makes the few roughly 15-20 inches from the battery. It this really an issue, or am I just risking the loss of more wire if it blows?
  18. The stock floor's back in. I ran the wires through the driver's side power lift gate switch location and it all should be in by Thursday evening. Check out my temporary, rigged battery holder.
  19. Hmmm... If I have time, a grille would be pretty handy. Anxious to see how it turns out, Dingo. I'll be beginning the the assembly tomorrow, but have it all cut out today. After working first shift and lifting, transporting, and cutting these boards, I'm exhausted. Later tonight, I hope to get rid of the rest of the false floor and vacuum all the glass out. If I have time after, I'll fix the back-up camera. I over-estimated how much wood I'd need, as I bought two sheets, but finished everything with just one and with a little extra... Stock floor, false floor pieces, and new box pieces.
  20. Is your current one set in the floor or in the stock location? I look forward to seeing your handywork.
  21. Got her back and brought home some wood! Tomorrow I cut and begin to build.
  22. One the door frame, but inside the car, there should be a sticker with your vin # and a number for your tire pressure. At least there is in the states...
  23. I have always told myself that if I were to grab any Infinity speaker, it would be the Kappa line or nothing, and all are going to sound better active, but there shouldn't be an issue running them passive. Good luck!
  24. How about that alliteration? lol Since the break in resulted with my stock floor being contorted, I'm going to put the stock floor back in, once I get the car back from the body shop, (sad) and build a smaller, sealed box for my 15" SSA Icon along with troubleshooting my back up camera and getting the Viper Invisibeam put in. Here's the plan, most likely to be modified slightly. The battery is represented by the smaller box, and it will be braced some how. The amp will be mounted on the back of the box again, and if I have time, I'll build something to hide the wires, but for now I'm just planning on mounting the fuse to the box. The long, extended piece and the corner brace is to keep the box from sliding/falling. It's about 2.3 cu.ft, sits just below the window line and battery plus the box extend across the entire driver's side trunk panel. It leaves 30 inches of lateral trunk space for me to put the seats down, lie, and store things. It will all be screwed together for security and easy removal to access the spare.
