  1. I AM one of the "so so" satisfied people on this forum. Just got the update to 2.7 yesterday. So far the system has been more responsive and running better. The font size for the time and temp are now bigger and easier to see. I did have to re-pair my Droid X to Sync, but that was the only thing that I had to do. My presets for Sirius were still there. Time will tell if it will hold up. My service manager told me again yesterday that Ford has several more updates coming soon. I review this site almost every day but I do not see the need to respond to every discussion on this forum to get my view across because I do not have the perfect vehicle. I come to this site to learn more about the vehicle that I am driving, but sometimes this site has become nothing but a #@$$! session about certain problems that almost everyone on this site is already aware of. Yes this site is the place to discuss problems not to reiterate the problems to death and end up bashing each other for one reason for another. It is quite frustrating to have problems with a new vehicle. I am right there with you. My Sync was dead for a month before Ford figured out how to resolve the problem. This all happened within the first two weeks of ownership, but I still love my Edge. You will only get it when you pry my dead fingers off of the steering wheel.
  2. The 18" chrome clad wheels cost around $800.00 per wheel from Ford. I brushed up next to a storm drain while parking my 2011 edge within a month of owning it. I have not replaced it yet, too expensive in my book. If the wheel would have been solid metal, I could have had it repaired by one of the local shops in town. Everyone has commented on how much they like the look of the chrome clad wheels on my 2011, but I prefer the painted aluminum wheels on my 2008. Easier to keep clean in my opinion and I never got a scratch on them.
  3. Ford service manager from my dealership just called me and said that customer satisfaction program 10B20 update is a newer version from my 2.4. He said that Ford technicians were at the dealership last Friday and that there are at least two more updates coming real soon after this one. The manager told me that Ford is working diligently on getting the MFT to work like is was originally intended. Lets hope they follow through with this. He wanted to know when I wanted to bring it in and I told him that I would bring it in around the first of April as I will be ready for an oil change then. This will give them a chance to work out any install bugs before they do mine.
  4. tpm419419 That is the same letter that I received last week. I am currently waiting on an answer from the dealership before I proceed with any updates. I am currently running version 2.4 with a new APIM installed last December. I have had no major problems. MFT works just fine some days and some days it is slow as molasses.
  5. Just finished taking the first trip with my 2011 from Texas to New Mexico and back. Traveled a total of 1256.8 miles in two days and hand calculated average mileage was 25.01 mpg. I had right at 3000 miles on the motor when I left. The average would have been much better, but I had a head wind of 30 to 40 mph for most of the trip out. On the trip back, I did not have much of a tail wind as I hoped. Instead I still had a small head wind to cross winds of 10mph. I had the cruise control on most all of the way, 70-75mph. One tankful hit 29.55 mpg on the way back home with the AC on. The trip out average 22.47 mpg. The trip back average 28.35mpg. My 2011 edge is averaging about 2.5 mpg better than my 2008 did through the same time periods. Both vehicles tended to get better gas mileage when the outside air temperature was over 60 degrees. Now that this nasty winter season is ALMOST over for all of us in the USA, the edge should start getting even better mileage. I also do not run my climate controls on AUTO. At highway speeds, running the ac does not seem to make any difference on gas mileage. Using ac in stop and go traffic, gas mileage tends to go south in a hurry.
  6. Aqua for me as well with the Tuxedo Black exterior.
  7. This is what I did to sync my droid X. Push the (add phone) button on the sync system on 2011 Edge. It should display a dialog box with the security code to enter into your phone. While this dialog box is showing, go to your droid x, (settings), (wireless &network setting), (bluetooth settings), (scan for devices). The phone should show that it found a new device. It should say "Sync". Press that on your phone. A dialog box on the phone should come up and ask for the security code on the new device. Enter it and then scroll screen down for button that will say OK or save. This is from memory as it has been a while since I did this myself so I might have left out a step or two. I tried the discoverable mode from the droid x as well, but it did not work.
  8. I thought the mileage was only updated when one does a vehicle history report from the vehicle and sends it to the server.
  9. CanuckG35 Thanks for the posting the very detailed information.
  10. I did the same thing and talked with my insurance agent. Since the damage was caused by me running into a curb and not by running over a road hazard on the highway, I would have to process the claim on the collision part of my insurance instead of the comprehensive part. At this point I am just taking a wait and see attitude. One can not notice the damage to the wheel unless you are looking at it at close range. Since the damage is on the drivers side front wheel, I have to make a point to not look at the wheel each time I get into the Edge. Otherwise I will beat myself up about a stupid silly mistake. $800.00 can be spent elsewhere for the time being on more important things.
  11. Tom I was told by the service manager that they replaced my APIM module. Here is the timeline of events for my Edge. Saturday 11/20/10 Traded 2008 Ford Edge SEL for 2011 Ford Edge SEL Thursday 12/09/10 MyFordTouch went black screen of death with constant reboots. Called service manager to tell them of problem. Friday 12/10/10 Took Edge to service at dealership so that they would have written documentation of problem. No work performed because they did not know what to do. Thursday 12/23/10 Service manager called around 8:00am and said to bring it in and they would install the gen 2.0 upgrade. dropped of Edge at 9:30am. Picked up at 3:30pm, install failed could not get the install to even start. Tuesday 01/04/11 Ford service technician came to dealership to go over issues with MyFordTouch. Ordered new APIM module for my Edge. Two day transient time. Thursday 01/06/11 Service manager called to setup service for next morning after APIM module was delivered to dealership. Friday 01/07/11 Dropped of Edge at 7:00am Service manager called at 10:15am to say that everything was completed. New APIM installed Software version BE installed 911 assist worked correctly Sync services working Right now everything is working. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!
  12. The sound of Silence is gone!! After 4+ weeks with a dead MFT, the dealership called and scheduled me to come in last Friday 01/07/11. They replaced the APIM module and upgraded the software to the 2nd generation version BE. It only took about 3 hours for them to call me after I dropped it off at 7am on Friday. So far everything appears to be working fine. Time will tell.
  13. The exact same thing happened to me the first week I owned my 2011 Edge with the chrome cladded wheels. The cladded part can not be replaced by itself. I have the tire guard warranty but it covers the tire and wheel if it was damaged by a road hazzard. I struck a concrete curb as I was parking and scrapped the tire and wheel. This is excluded in the tire guard warranty. The dealership wants $800.00 plus to replace just one wheel. OUCH!! I checked with a wheel repair service but they can not fix the plastic part. If the wheel was a solid metal wheel such as aluminum or magnesium, they could have repaired it. Now I will have to try to find one through Ebay or Craigslist. I might just get brand new 18" wheels as suggested above later this year. The scratch is not too bad so I can live with it as long as I don't think about it to much. It is just frustrating as I had the 18" painted wheels on my 2008 and used the exact parking spot at Costco for 3 years with no problems. The first time I parked with the 2011, SCRATCH!!!!!!!!!
  14. Curlysir That is great to hear that you got the upgrade to work since you had the black screen of death like mine. I do not have navigation, so mine should not take as long. I will be in contact with your service manager at Five Star in the morning and then will talk with my service manager at Don Davis.to get mine back up and running. I feel like I have been driving one of the old trucks from the farm with no audio at all. The silence is starting to get old.
  15. curlysir My audio will not even work with the steering wheel controls. The system will reboot 5 times and then stop. I have climate controls thru the steering wheel controls and the mechanical buttons on the center consol. There is no floor button, so the heat comes thru the panel or the defroster. I am glad that the weather has not been too cold yet. Which dealer are you using? I am using Don Davis Ford in Arlington.
  16. curlysir Same here for me. Waiting on a return call from the service manager to see if they have been able to get a successful upgrade completed. I have the black screen of death like several other people. Currently plan on heading out of town on Christmas. Not looking forward to a six hour trip with zero audio. I might use Slacker on my smartphone. Oh the joy of listening to music on a small single speaker. Ah flashback to the 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he he.
  17. +1 for all the comments above. This forum does provide great info. One just has to disregard the negative comments. It is quite easy to get caught up in it. Having gone through the first generation Sync with my 2008 with zero problems, the MFT on the 2011 bit the dust yesterday after just 20 days of ownership. Yes I am unhappy, but I was fully aware of what could happen with this new generation on Sync. The mechanical side of the 2011 is so much better than the earlier year models. It is the best Ford vehicle that I have ever owned. (Plus the money did not go to government moters!!!!!!) This too will pass and in a couple of months, it will be a faded memory. Stay and enjoy the positive info!
  18. Mine still working as advertised. Nothing major to complain about.
  19. Actually more like NOSEY neighbors! Nothing like trying to use the phone and someone was already talking on the phone OR you were using the phone and you would here a CLICK at the end of your call. You knew that someone was listening in. Also since this was a rural area, we only had to DIAL 7 numbers to call someone. Only had to DIAL all 10 numbers when one was calling long distance. Ring-a-ding-ding! And I am not that old (by my standards anyway), still less than 50.
  20. "Did your contact photographs load via bluetooth to your Sync phonebook as well?" Yes they did. The only contact pictures that I have are the ones that the phone downloaded from my facebook account. They look crappy, but I haven't taken the time to make my own contact pictures.
  21. Don't forget about having a party line to go with that rotory phone. Uh oh, here comes that questions on that one.
  22. I use a Blackberry Storm 9530 and have it paired up to Sync with not problems. Phone, bluetooth audio all work. When I tried the travel link service for the first time I too got the demo voice. I then went to syncmyride.com and updated my info. I deleted the 2008 and added the 2011. Then I went to the sync travel link and setup my destinations and sports that I wanted. Since then the travel link service has worked correctly on the 2011 with no problem. Maybe this will help.
  23. So far so good after one week and 300 miles. I have not seen any of the serious issues talked about yet. Mostly just getting used to MFT. It does some things differently from the first gen. My biggest problem yet is trying to get out of the dog house because the wife is still mad at me for trading in the 2008. She wanted me to keep it for her and get rid of her X#IXCX blankety blank Camry.
  24. What year model is your Edge? I am curious if there are any changes on the rear bumper for the 2011 and if the Scion will still work.
  25. Just traded in my leased 2008 SEL FW for a new 2011 SEL FW on saturday night. Way too early to say what the gas mileage is going to do, but it looks like it will be better than the 2008. Lifetime mpg on the 2008 was 21.5 with trips getting up to 25.2mpg. I will say that the 2011 transmission is much smoother and doesn't seem so clucky with changing gears. There seems to be faster pickup to highway speeds as well. There is a learning curve for the MyFordTouch but that will come pretty easily. Too early yet to see if I will have any glitches with it. Having gone through the first generation of Sync with the 2008, the bugs will be worked out in time as well for this version.
