  1. Go figure the gas cap light has went out. I did replace the gas cap a while back. Ligtht has been out for two or three days now. 1) the light burnt out or 2) the gas cap fixed the problem.
  2. Most likely option when I trade my Ford Edge in. Or maybe it will be worth more in parts than as a whole vehicle.
  3. I have lived by the 5-6k oil change interval, So far so good for me. Keep in mind the oils today are far better than the oils of 1978 when I first started driving (you figure out the age, lol) I do remember I had a chevy vega that I never changed oil in just due to the fact that I keep a gallon jug of used oil in the car and whenever it needed oil i just dumped in some. Car quality has definately improved since then!!!
  4. No idea how that guy could even still drive on the road? Still have the question unanswered, but he had insurance!! Did you notice the lack of Ford Edge repair videos? I plan on doing an amatuer video of my replacement and posting it on my youtube. I have asked my regular mechanic to do so, but he is shy or does not want his ex-wife to know where he is working (LOL).
  5. XB70 no undercoating. Almost every mile is interstate. Passenger side a little dinged up from some guy that felt he want the lane I was in (he was given ticket number 21 when he hit me). I could not imagine having 21 tickets on my license. Can hardly tell unless you look. Front end is a little off due to hitting a gator (truck retread). I have a dash cam and have a few videos of me missing bambi. Only a matter of time till I get one.
  6. Thanks XB70, but you sound like my doctor when you start talking age and mileage.
  7. Thanks, After a bit of searching and investigation. I have mostly determined that the Purge valve has the highest probability of failure and is usually the first part to check and verify. What do you think?
  8. Well the gas cap may not be the problem as the light has return and is on. The next level indication is that the Evaporation tank is either leaking or the tank it's self has failed. Not sure which at this point. The next question is where is this tank located and it appears there is a seperate purge valve or something on it. I am looking to replace it my self if the access is easy and up front unbolt and rebolt replacement. Anyone know where it is located?
  9. 255,000 miles now and had my Gas Cap light turn on. Went to autozone and 13 dollars later the light is off and have an new gas cap. Wish all repairs were this cheap and fast. Changed oil with second round of mobile 1 high mileage. Could not find a leak per the mechanice since I drove in during a down pour of rain and the whole under carriage was essentially power washed. Good news though after 5000 miles that 3.5 had only used half a quart of oil. Think I will keep on trucking.
  10. All done with drivers side strut bearing mount replacement. Installed a MOOG replacement part. Had it done at garage and cost 240.00 dollars. that being said cheap parts cost way to much. Get the good stuff the first time.
  11. Made the appointment to replace the drivers side strut bearing mount and found out the passenger side was a master pro part that failed and was replaced with a MOOG strut bearing mount. I replaced almost every part of the suspension with MOOG parts except the strut bearing mounts. Guess which parts are failing? lol Moral to the story I guess is do not buy master pro parts. Stick with MOOG
  12. After six or more wheel bearings I will put money on the wheel bearing. By the way the first ones to go on my Edge were the rears.
  13. I have only changed my transmission fluid twice. 95 percent highway driving. Tranny is still good. The transaxle has had a wet area the entire life of the car. Most likely due to install problem that i read about. I never changed it because the leak is not bad enough to warrant spending the money on.
  14. Should have changed both. Most likely changed the wrong one? I do not know what you paid for the work, but my Ford dealer charged me almost 800.00 dollars for the repair.

    Valve train tick

My Edge makes the same noise and has for a long time.
  16. My first set of front rotors warped about 172,000 miles and I changed them out for stock rotors. The rear rotors I had turned at about 220,000 miles. So the rear rotors now have 253,000 miles on them. Either I am driving like grandma or I am very lucky.
  17. I will check on the other additives you mentioned. As far as the PCV valve I have never replaced it. It is the original PCV valve among other parts that are original.
  18. Say what you will I changed my oil about every 5-6k miles. Regular bulk oil and did this right up to 250,000 miles. Now I am using high mileage just for the hope that the rear seal will swell enough to slow or stop a rear seal leak. Hitting the road for the next 1000 miles tomorrow.
  19. My Ford edge with 252,000 miles is starting to show some rear seal leakage. I ran regular oil in it for most of the miles. I just changed to High mileage and will wait and see if the additives can swell the seals to slow or stop the leak. Anyone else with a rear seal leak?
  20. Not sure of the brand. I will just go with what the other replacement was. Most of the time I just take it in and the shop fixes it as quick as they can since they know I will be hitting the road with it right after the repair.
  21. LOL Think if I just drive straight the power steering pump will last longer? Anyway When the pump goes I will change out the original serpetine belt, yeah go figure, and the belt tensioner. One last thing as of now both the replacement strut bearing mounts I bought from Orielly's auto parts have failed. I changed out the right front one about a month ago and now the left front one has failed. Guess I will step this failed one up to the more expensive one that I replaced in the right front. This means I am now on set number two after the original factory set. Sad really as this is mostly highway driving and no real reason for them to fail other than the fact they are most likely cheap chinese parts.
  22. As of now 252,000 miles and I am starting hear the whinning of a power steering pump that indicates it will be the next thing to replace. Tank is full so will wait and see. Just keep the bank card warmed up. LOL
  23. Well last oil change it was noted that the rear seal is leaking. Next change I will start using High Mileage oil to see if the additive can expand the seal enough to slow or stop the leak. I am afraid that at this point the $$$$ and the value of the vehicle will not be a good choice so I will drive it until I am ready to get rid of it or 300k whichever comes first.
  24. Strut bearing mount has failed. Almost willing to put money on it.
  25. I had a Chrysler once that did the same thing as far as vibration and it turned out to be a warped or bent drive shaft. Might be a source of your vibration. The symptoms seem to be the same.
