  1. I have replaceed wheel bearings (two on the right side and one on the left rear) The noise you describe is a wheel bearing. I would replace it. I am also now starting to hear noise on the right rear and will most likely be replacing that wheel bearing soon. My left front wheel bearing would be the only one that is original then at this point. I may also replace it just because it has 230,000 miles on the bearing and it most likely will be needing replacement soon.
  2. End of month Mileage report: 227,000 miles. Lets see what the year brings. Had to replace the Right front replacement wheel bearing after only 70k miles, It was under warranty but unfortunately the labor was not. $162.00
  3. With 227,000 on my 08 almost 98 percent highway I would say it is a good deal and I bet he has plenty of brake pad left also. If he had to replace the brakes then it was not all highway as I got 147K on the fronts and 198K on the rears with highway driving. Check that out to make sure and that would prove the truth about the type of driving.
  4. I use Blizzaks on all four wheels and usually the tire store you purchase them from will discount the remounting and mounting (less than 90 dollars) The traction you get from dedicated snow tires makes a world of difference in the snow. I tried just two front snow tires and rear end was everywhere. I usally get two seasons out of a set of snow tires, if you drive less miles than my 60k a year they should last you even longer. Don't install them until temp below 50 on road surface on average and take them off once you feel the potential for snow is over.
  5. I have been replacing my front end suspension parts with MOOG replacement parts, I have found the MOOG to be great quality and are exactly the same as the OEM (Motorcraft) parts. The MOOG parts appear to be powder coated not dipped in paint. The cost was also less. The outer Tie rods were heavy quality and exact replacement. The MOOG parts also come with grease fittings which the motorcraft do not. The swaybar links were also of similar quality and appeared to be well constructed. Be carefull of some other brands as they are definately sub par and I sent them back and went with the MOOG. The best prices seemed to be between Oreillys Auto Parts and Summit Racing online.
  6. After driving my 08 Edge over 220K miles I have never hit 23 miles per gallon usually around 21 and maybe 22mpg. I would say it is normal. Unfortunately the Manufacturers live in a different world when it comes to actual gas mileage. One day maybe they will all be honest about it. More Political than anything else.
  7. I just got rid of a full set of Bridgestone Ecopias that went 70 miles and were not touching the wear bars. It is winter and rather than buying new tires (MS) I bought a set of Blizzacks and love driving my 08 Edge in the snow. By the way I only rotated the Ecopias once.
  8. Glad to hear another person is in the 200k area. You have a year head start on me, but I think I can get to the 280's by next christmas. I plan on making this Edge go for as long as I can barring Tranny Failure or Engine failure. The rest can usually be repaired economically enough and better than buying a new car.
  9. Maintenance, Maintenance and more maintenance, plus just driving it normally, No racing, and most of all avoiding city driving. I do however find myself sitting at times with it just idling for 30 to 60 minutes at times waiting for clients. 99 percent of the mileage is highway at about 75 miles an hour. Only once when new did I ever go faster than that and that was 118 mph just to check it out. By the way it shifted into 6th at 106 mph. I figured that was fast enough. Just so everyone knows trade in value is 2500.00 dollars at current mileage.
  10. I run snow tires on my edge and the traction is even better! Tried M&S tires for a winter and went with snow tires after that and the edge just digs in and goes and it is only FWD.
  11. I have used a K&N in my 2008 Ford Edge with 220,000 miles for the entire life of the car. No MAF sensor problems and only had to buy my second recharge kit. Same filter for as many miles. Paid 50 for the filter and 30 for the recharge kits (two). Maybe I did something wrong but the engine is sound and no sensor issues. Sort of shoots that whole (don't use K&N filter) mechanic recommendation down. Just had the snow tires installed today at Tires plus and the mechanic said I rarely see vehicles with over 220,000 miles on them and I have not seen an 08 with 220,000 miles on it.
  12. I replaced the Front pads at 147,000 miles and the rears at 198,000 thousand. Believe it or not. Just ask my mechanic. He always keeps track of me as he likes to buy my vehicles after I am done with them. Something about being in good condition.
  13. I have had to replace two wheel bearings. One in the drivers side rear and one in the passenger side front. The replaced front wheel bearing is making noise again after 70k miles on it and it is warrantied but the the labor was only for one year thus I get to pay for the labor to replace the warranty part that will be free. That being said I also have 220,000k miles on the 2008 Ford Edge and only replaced the brakes once. Always a trade off.
  14. 2008 with 220,000k miles go for it.
  15. Why not just buy after market rims might be cheaper.
  16. Transmission Rear Output speed sensor 700 dollar repair and off you go.
  17. Riddle me this how can I get over 20 gallons into a 2008 Ford Edge FWD? I have done this regularly and over 19 gallons numerous times. The needle was definatley on E and I have a base model so I do not get a message that says how many miles to E
  18. I drive my 2008 ford edge 6k miles a month and have never gotten tired of the way it drives and handles. Great vehicle.
  19. I have a 2008 Ford Edge SE I drive and it has 220,000 miles on it now. I am taking it to 300,000 and will decide from there if it will go any further. RIght now I would put money on it that it goes at least to 350,000 miles and I may then retire it to a back up vehicle or short trips until I get tired of it. Strong vehicle and I can say after over 500,000 miles in several different makes of other vehicle this is the first time I can honestly say I would buy another one.
  20. Currently have a 2008 Ford Edge SE with 257,000 miles on it. Three wheel bearings (two on right front) all new shocks and struts including strut bearing mounts. New Rear Output sensor installed (that was an expensive sensor 700 dollars) Only replaced brakes all around one time so far. All new lower control arms with ball joints, New sway bar links both sides and new outer tie rods on both sides. Note: some of this was done just to prevent further future needed replacement. Preventative if you must. Oil is changed about every 5-6K miles and tranny changed as required. Overall some minor body damage from side swipe and front end plastic rearranged by semi retread. Still looks pretty good and runs great with good power. I would say this is a definately a 300,000 plus mile vehicle. Just replace parts as they wear out.
